Do we have any other EQ players here? I've been playing on and off since the original launch, and there is going to be a new progression server opening next month. Anyone interested in playing?

Bumping to see if there is interest. Myself and three friends are playing on Ragefire, if you are interested in playing message me here.

Everquest is still around? I'll be damned. I used to have an ogre Shadow Knight on Tallon Zek back in the day...

Oh Ever-crack, even now I miss you.

WoW was good but EQ was my high point for MMORPGs never again shall I love like that.

The camps, the raids...the corpse runs. Ah sweet memories.

Hey if you guys are interested, resub and roll a toon on Ragefire and I'll throw you a few plat.

My Druid is almost lvl 29 now, being able to port your group around the world is really handy.

Bump - started a cleric on Project 99 with some friends. If anyone is down to play, or if you'd like to learn about the best MMO of all time, let me know.

Wait, fuck me EQ's still going?

I heard about it even before I started playing Runescape...I wonder how things would've changed if i'd played EQ instead?

Austism aside, I'll look into EQ, I'm bored enough to.

Fuck yea it's still going. The official progression servers suck ass, but P1999 which is privately run is fucking awesome. It's as close to the game was in 99 as possible - you don't even get in game maps.

So what'd you recommend I join, being a newbie and all?

To be honest, EQ would be difficult for someone to jump into not having played it before.

Project 1999 is a good place to start but can be tricky to set up the client. But it's as close to the original game as possible. They also do not allow boxing which I am in favor of.

The live progression servers have higher XP, in game maps, and other "modern" EQ things. They also allow boxing and the use of third party programs (to an extent). There were groups of mages ruining around all being controlled by one player, and that was OK by the server rules. Pretty lame if you ask me. Oh also you have to pay monthly to play on the progression servers.

If you want to try out P99 send me a PM here and I can help you get going. Setup guide is here:

I played it for a bit during Kunark, again around '08 and some more last year on P1999. It's great, but I'm too busy getting ready to raid tank for a guild my buddies and I are making for Legion to consider a second MMO right now.

Playing on the new progression server. Fun but also depressing at the same time.

Didn't see another thread about this, but I'm playing on Project 1999 if anyone wants to group.

I got nostalgiac for this game I mostly remember hating so I'm trying project 99. Wish me luck guys. Maybe I'll get something past level 40 this time.

I did not like Everquest. I came from Ultima Online and Everquest felt limited in what I could do.

Then I realized that they divided up the servers and I couldn’t gank newbs or PK with reckless abandon. Thus began my disdain for carebear MMOs and my desire for a sandbox like UO to pop back up. My last hurrah for MMOs was Shadowbane. My guild was heavily invested in Darkfall, but that was complete crap. I haven’t picked up a MMO since.

Dead genre. Only WoW is keeping it alive. Everyone moved to “survival” games.

PVP was always a tacked on feature for EQ - it was not designed for it and it's not the intended play style.

Everquest catering to pussies and whiny titty babies lead to the downfall of MMORPGs and gave rise to the “theme parks” of today. Which all fail except WoW.

So I can shit on it all I want and call you a carebear baby who ruined an entire genre of games because you can’t handle someone killing you because they’re better than you.
