Sadly, real life is not as cohesive as novels, and the cast of characters likewise is not so strictly constrained.

It takes a long time to develop bonds with people, and it gets harder and harder as people get older, especially in the modern world where people's interactions become more fleeting and distant and people become more numb. When someone is an adult and loses a friend from youth it's extremely rare that they replace them, especially for men.

There being 8 billion people isn't a positive, because interacting with 2000 people for 20 seconds isn't how you form bonds, interacting with 2 people for 20 weeks is how you form bonds. That fragmentation is exactly where a massive amount of modern day issues arise from.

That has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Typing words to a screen isn't friendship.
