While Chris has been talked into a lot of shit by trolls over the years, he's also capable of thinking up very inappropriate actions all on his own. He's inherently selfish in the way a child is. He's only capable of thinking things through in so far as they benefit whatever desire he has at the moment.

Even if someone else suggested the idea to him, he wouldn't do it unless he wanted to. So while part of me still hopes he didn't actually do it, I think he probably did it, and it's not the trolls' fault.

It doesn't even matter if, like many are theorizing, Barb is playing up her dementia for sympathy bucks. The fact is, first of all, a person who's 80 years old and lives like Barb does clearly isn't all there. Second of all, there's so much language in both the texts and the audio call that suggest Barb repeatedly asked Chris to stop. That's an enthusiastic redaction of consent. Even if she stopped saying no, she certainly wasn't saying yes. She probably saw all the holes in the walls and figured she could either lay there with her legs spread and get it over with or potentially be a victim of violence. This is such a nuanced situation and you're making an absolute clown out of yourself by suggesting that even if it was 100% consensual it would be okay in any sense of the word.

The point I'm trying to make is Chris- bar any schizophrenia/psychotic issues he may have- is of completely sound body and mind. High-functioning autism isn't a brain that functions less than normal people, it's a brain that functions differently. Meanwhile, dementia is your brain essentially turning into soup. A lot of the more subtle stuff, like how he would regard people that helped him. Autists are always bad at socializing and dealing with other people, but not all are outright ungrateful or lost in their own selfishness. Autistic sociopaths exist, and Chris is one of those cases. His incel-ery was there from the beginning, and that gets more and more desperate and predatory with time. Chris was not destined to rape his mother, but he was always at risk of taking advantage of anyone that he could.
