reminds me of when they got pissed that specifically characters like zarya from overwatch or some other bitch from a game i dont care about werent confirmed lesbians because they "weve obviously lesbian coded, no straight girl would ever have hair like that"

Their "secret gay culture" apparently relies on blatantly obvious signifiers, which most people would call "stereotypes."

But since they are completely socially inept, they have no choice but to rely on stereotypes because anything else is too subtle for them to pick up on.

the funny thing is if tumblr wasn't so backwards they could just headcanon or "alternative universe" whatever dumb shit they wanted, but the tumblr laws of shipping make it so they're basically banning themselves from fanfiction. it's a problem they created on their own by needing everything to be canonical and politically correct to the point that you have to treat characters like real people with actual biological histories. you can meddle with their sexuality because that's progressive, but there's no way to un-incest a ship because that's too problematic

not that the shipping spergs from 10+ years ago who would get into flame wars over what shipping and headcanons or whatever were acceptable were much better, but at least then it was just dumb nerds yelling at other dumb nerds that their dumb nerd shit is dumb and not masked as activism

Not necessarily. While I'm not defending the bullshit that Violet is gay, there have been instances of younger lesbians having grown up having crushes on guys, because it's what they're "supposed" to do. It's what their friends do, so they join in before they actually realize, "Oh shit, no. Dick is not my thing." Some date guys and have feelings for them before finally settling on being more comfortable in relationships solely with women.

see the issue w saying a character can be canonically gay despite crushing on a dude doesn't work because, as a character, everyting she does should be meaningful to define her
crushing on a guy defines her as straight. crushing on a girl, even years later, makes her bi because she was previously interested in a guy, unless it's STATED that wasn't a real crush
shes a character, not a person, and good writers never write pointless bullshit

There are also tons of bi women who claim to be lesbians and tell actual lesbians that they should examine why they don't like dick or won't date mtf troons.
