Please, that's far from the worst of it.
There's at least some justification for that one. Redtail is a tortie, and in real life a tortie has to have two X chromosomes. So the idea of him being biologically female has some basis in canon (though the far more likely explanation is that the authors know jack shit about cat genetics, which is absolutely true. I could pull up examples but I doubt anyone cares that much)
There's actually been cases of male calico cats, but they're extremely rare because they have to have an extra X chromosome for their fur color to be possible. They're also sterile because of the extra chromosome, they're XXY.
Another interesting thing about cats is that ginger cats are usually male, but female ginger cats are not a genetic anomaly like male calicos.
