Facebook has changed its corporate name to Meta as part of a major rebrand.

The company said it would better "encompass" what it does, as it broadens its reach beyond social media into areas like virtual reality.

The change does not apply to its individual platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp, only the parent company that owns them.

The move follows a series of negative stories about Facebook, based on documents leaked by an ex-employee.

Frances Haugen has accused the company of putting "profits over safety".

In 2015, Google restructured its company calling its parent firm Alphabet, however, the name has not caught on.

This reminds me of Monsanto getting bought out and whatever mega shity monopoly medical/chemical company wanting to change their name. What the hell do they expect this do to when they sell all the same products? It's just like Jewgle changing their ownership name to Alphabet. Fuck off nobody is buying that.

Seems like a stupid idea. Kind of reminds me of New Coke. Facebook is becoming more passe' by the day and zuck can sense it.
The only thing they have left is half the VR industry, and as new competition arrives that is dwindling too. They've tried their damndest to squeeze everyone else out of that field and it isn't working.

Especially that they wanted to enforce Facebook accounts in order to use VR and bar from using it if you got banned. Still, some proper company needs to take John Carmack from Zucc's hellhole and it will be all a good riddance.
