So Chris watched the Family Guy/Simpsons crossover episode, eh? Nothing too surprising in that, though I was sort of under the impression he watched the Family Guy reruns on Adult Swim. Does anyone know if he watched the new episode of the Simpsons last night too? Just curious, because while he references Family Guy quite a bit, he doesn't quote the Simpsons all that much. Given his age and the fact that he was practically raised by the television, I should expect he's watched almost every episode. Hell, I know normal people who can quote Simpsons episodes.

Not that it matters because both shows kind of suck at this point, but still something to think about.
If he did I wonder what he thought of Don Hertzfeldt doing the show's couch gag last night. Or any of the outside artist couch gags for that matter. I'm sure it goes over his head but his opinion on someone like Sylvain Chomet would be oddly fascinating.

Really? Now I'm kind of regretting not watching last night's Simpsons. Speaking of couch gags, the Guillermo del Toro Halloween one would be another one I'd love to see Chris' reaction to. Has Chris ever seen Pan's Labyrinth, or would it be too scary for him? Would he recognize H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allen Poe, Richard Matheson or Ray Bradbury? What about the cyclops from Ray Harryhausen's 'The 7th Voyage of Sinbad?' Or any of the classic Universal monsters? So many pop culture references that I suspect would go straight over his head worked into there.

He bought all the Simpsons lego and has the Marge "nudes" Playboy published on his wall. He also played the Facebook Simpsons game for a while and dropped a ton of cash on it. Not sure if he actually watches it or is just along for the pop culture ride.

It's Chris. He has an extremely limited range of things he recognizes.

Yeah, I knew most of that. And he's quoted (or misquoted) the Simpsons several times as well, but he seems more interested in Family Guy, possibly because those non-sequinter cut away gags fit his own autistic sense of humor.

If it ain't RL Stine's Goosebumps, Chris don't know shit. Hell, if Simpsons ever has Chthulu on it, he'd think it was an original Simpsons character.

To be completely honest and possibly A-Loggy, when Chris posted that his favorite part was the part where Meg hugged Lisa, knowing Chris' infatuation with Meg (and Marge, Lisa's mother) and his present infatuation with being him declaring himself a lesbian, first thing I thought was, "oh hell, he's gonna be fantasizing about Lisa and Meg being a couple now."

All the Simpsons Lego? So I guess that includes the $200 Simpsons family house. Wow, just another topping on his multiples of the more expensive Friends sets. Getting all the minifigs would have also costed a lot. Getting all the collectible minifigs would also cost $64 at lowest, and since Chris isn't savvy enough to feel them through the bags he'd either get all sorts of duplicates until he gets all of them, or bought the 16 specific ones on eBay at infladed price.

Well, I think he's more into Family Guy because yeah, the jokes are more random-access and the classic, good Simpsons actually had deeper jokes than that often.

I thought the same thing. In fact, given his views on cartoon characters being real and the fact that he was practically raised by TV shows, I'm inclined to think he may have had a thing for Lisa Simpson for a while now and, in a rare display of self-awareness, chosen to keep it to himself. Frankly, I'm more disturbed by the idea of him drawing another crude sketch along the lines of ShecameforCWC.jpg or Unga Wunga...

While the couch gags are things in his wheelhouse. Do I think I could discuss The Triplets of Belleville with OPL? Of course not. But I've always found his opinion on pop culture interesting; especially things outside of his comfort zone. So to hear his opinion on these couch gags, particularly Hertzfeldt, would be fascinating to me.

I'm curious if Christian associates with Meg's character because of her role as the family whipping post, or because she's a lesbian female soul that's constantly mistaken for a JERK by cis scum.

When it comes to the two interacting I'm more wondering what he thought of Meg carving Lisa's name into her arm after this scene happened. I know Chris isn't sadistic but I can't help but picture him finding it funny.

Not sure about literally "all" of it, but he used a Lisa head for Sandy and according to someone on the original thread that only come with the house. And he bought a ton of Itchy and Scratchy duplicates to make the Sonichu tails out of.

I doubt it, he's not a pedo and he haven't ever posted / fantasized about the show's(the Simpsons) adult depictions of Lisa Simpson nor made references in the comics. He was into Meg, but was also very adamant about her turning 18 before any sexxxing between Chris and her could occur in the potential Chris episode of Family Guy or when he was spanking it into Meg in the comments section on youtube about the episode The Road to The Multiverse.

I don't think you wanted to imply him being a pedo, but just putting it in.

All the Sailor Moon girls he obsessed over are underage.
With some animes, we're falling into the "9000 year old vampire lord but looks like a highschool girl"-trapping where most, if not all sexualized female characters look like they could be what is considered "underage" in Western cartoons. Plus the sexualization of "underage"(in the West) high school girls further muddies up the picture what is acceptable to wack off to. Now filter this confusion through an autistic mind and you can have a non-pedophile Chris "Staying Straight" to the image of a supposedly-14-year-old girl.

Whilst Lisa Simpson is, no sweats and balls about it, a cartoon child that hasn't been sexualized in any way, not even in her adult forms.

Not to his knowledge, anyway. All the Sailor Moon girls he obsessed over are underage. I'd bet he doesn't consider age a factor in an artistic creation.

I agree. I'm always interested in knowing what things Chris is (or isn't) aware of. Somehow, I expect that the Triplets of Belleville would be one of those things that's completely off his radar, for example, but every once in a while his Netflix viewing list surprises me. Hell, I'm still surprised he got into the Saw franchise considering that even describing World War II gives him the prickly wicklies.

Yeah, no. I don't think Chris is a pedofork, but I do think he identifies with cartoon characters. And age in cartoon characters is largely irrelevant anyway. Still, on the whole Chris would probably identify more with children or teenagers in cartoon shows (and maybe live action TV shows and movies) simply because their interests and personalities are more likely to line up with his own. Hell, I recall reading that autistics in general are more likely to get along with people who are younger than themselves. Granted, in Chris' case that simply entails him feeling like he has a deep, soulful connection with Meg Griffin since he doesn't interact with other human beings, but still.

Ah yes, the 9000 year old magical girl who looks like a teenager trope. My friends and I have discussed that one many times when deconstructing anime. Generally speaking, I'm inclined to accept the author's age regardless of whether the character looks it or not simply because, as I said above, age doesn't matter in cartoons. They're bloody fiction. Not to mention that anime tends to portray everyone as looking rather young anyway.

Plus the sexualization of "underage"(in the West) high school girls further muddies up the picture what is acceptable to wack off to.

Yeah, that's a whole other issue entirely. I've always found that creepy though.

Pretty much. Like I said, Chris is autistic and relates more to cartoon characters than real people, so of course his dream girls are going to be Meg Griffin and Sailor Moon. It may seem weird, but as far as the internet goes, he's not that different from any other weeaboo talking about his 'waifu.' Heh. I suppose we should count ourselves fortunate that Chris hasn't become a furry yet!

Hopefully I'm not derailing the thread too much, and sort of in Chris' defense, I've always thought of anime characters (at least teens and older) as looking older. For example, when I first encountered Sailormoon, I was surprised that they're 14-16 in canon, and the older ones are in their late teens in canon. I subconsciously still tend to think of them as being 18-19ish and the older characters as being in their early to mid 20s or something in canon.

Back on topic, I wonder if Chris has noticed the arguable decline in quality in the Simpsons. I wonder if he enjoys it as much as he did in the 90s, if not more.
