Funnily enough, it's usually "we need female models!". I don't see a whole lot of people demanding we be able to play Senmua, Horizon Zero Dawn or Shantae as a male.

It's mostly because people with some sense to understand that this is a video game and not a medium to project their own feefees and should be catered to on every personal instance... Most really don't care what the character is - provided they aren't badgered with constant mentions of "I R WOOMANG STRONG DUN NEED MANG!" and the game is actually a good one and the character is compelling.

I personally find it pathetic that these individuals reeeing about gender/race just have to have this projection fulfilled to make them feel good about themselves when it is literally a handful of pixels on the screen. Like... Seriously... There is clear mental issues when something that's supposed to be for entertainment suddenly consumes their life and becomes absolute escapism - where they need this like they need water to survive because "muh representation!" and it just has to match themselves to a T or else it's garbage and bigoted...

I'll never understand the mentality that someone's work or achievements are invalidated because they're ''cancelled''. Hell, many Nobel prize winners are pieces of shit (or I guess I should say products of their time), yet they win the award for a reason.

I was wondering where I could find this drama.

For some context regarding Factorio, it attracts a lot of people on the autistic spectrum. That's "autistic spectrum" as in the "real" kind, not the "people I find annoying" kind. It's focused heavily on repetition and optimization, has a strong emphasis on mechanical designs, and the gameplay boils down to creating the perfect conveyor belt. It goes without saying that there's people without the disorder who like it, from what I hear the game is highly addictive, but that's why there's a high quantity of them blended in.

So, you know, draw your own conclusions about why the game's dev saying these things upset so many people. And why the groups of people he's upset are who they are. And also their reaction itself, and the interesting ways they choose to express themselves. But yeah, draw your own now-informed conclusions.

Or, you can let one of them tell you himself.

As for why? A lot of trans people are programmers (one of a few jobs even possible with very little interaction with other people), and this game appeals to programmers. Maybe there's an overlap with autism with meticulously placing and designing everything, which is more common in queer people. It's a really good game to play without voice chat, which trans-peeps usually try to avoid. It's really easy to just kinda tune out the rest of the lgbt-phobic shitty world and lose yourself in it. It's quiet and non-threatening. It can be played on crappy hardware, and a lot of queer people are broke af. And it's just a well-made game.

Fucking ESPN of all places did that when Rosa Namajunas spoke out against communism affecting her country and then ESPN said "obviously she's being racist against her Chinese opponent!" Then Rose kicked her head off in like a minute. It was great.

My only exposure to Factorio was from Sseth's review and despite being a little spergy I'm not really a fan of industrial/building games cause I like nature and don't like playing games where I'm supposed to build over it, but with all that said, I wanna throw money at Kovarex for being based. I may just buy Factorio and gift it to a quasi-troon acquaintance of mine just for shits and giggles. :^)
