I still can’t get over how much that guy replying to kovarex was bristling at the idea of someone throwing in a negative reference to communism.

They should not be surprised in the slightest that normal people find communism abhorrent. This should be a fully accepted mainstream belief and the fact that it isn’t is a massive red flag. The fact that there is a group of people who have been licking each other’s assholes over Marxism for long enough that they get offended at the very idea that someone finds their views distasteful should be deeply concerning.

I disagree. I really appreciate it when a game allows me to play my sex in-game, as I find it more personally immersive. I don't understand the rage that incels feel towards such a simple and non-aggressive request. These "will you let me play my bio-sex" threads always dissolve into a bunch of outrageously immature commentary that bumps the thread without any further response from the OP. I also advocate for games to not only have a female character. If a man wants to play a man, he should be able to.

Factorio has the same type of request thread on their forums.

At the end of the day though, some games have a vision for their narrative, and sometimes it is a story about a specific person, and that specific person has specific personal details, like a gender, a sexuality, an ethnicity, so they can make a more in depth and nuanced story about their lived experience. This doesn't need to be the case, but there ought to be freedom for the devs to choose to make a story about a specific person if they want to.

scott is from america (texas) where in some areas living the traditional life (wife + 6 kids) is still a thing, getting married and living happily ever after was an option for him, so now he's a happy husband and father with a nice future
notch on the other hand is from sweden, probably the most hyper progressive country on the planet, which means that option basically didn't exist for him, so now he's a sad and lonely old man with no future

yes, factorio is the gold standard
other options are:

1) heavily modded minecraft. this is where the factorio devs got their inspiration to make their game in the first place. it can be fun with friends but it's super janky and a pain to set up and play.

2) satisfactory. it's fun to explore and play around in, 3d engine allows some cool building stuff, but it doesn't reach the extreme levels of complexity and depth that factorio provides

3) dyson sphere program. it's new and still in development. it does some very cool things like seamless interplanetary travel, building on spherical maps, designing gigantic megastructures in space and watching them come together, really cool. the core gameplay is inferior to factorio though.

I am still not convinced it's actually all that good even as it is taking up a lot of my free time right now. The most damning thing is that it's not as organic as Factorio by a long shot. The map is fairly decently sized but static and will always be the same, enemies will only really spawn on valuable shit and don't actually interact with you unless you run into them and even then it's just some dumbass animal with a fairly short aggro range.

Sure, you can go nuts with it and in three dimensions as opposed to the two Factorio gives you but a lot of the time I find it making things clunkier rather than more interesting and it's still really lacking in building options. There is also no terrain manipulation so your best bet is to just build a layer of concrete above it all and only interact with the ground shit where the valuables are, the rest is kind of filler.

I have some more but I lost my train of thought and this is already autistic enough.

Unfortunately, the developer is a Gamer(trademarked) cry-baby who thinks that communism leads directly to genocide and that catching flak for linking to truly toxic people is cancelling. Also seems to believe that SJWs are a real thing and a threat.

Don't get me wrong, there's lots of good here, but this kind of behaviour is not cool and there are certain things (outlined below) are things that in my opinion signify that the developer has not considered certain implications of their game and that they've not considered certain details within their game.

There are sketchy things in the game such as referring to fauna as "the natives" that you have to defend yourself against, which uh, isn't great given the fact that this is how native peoples have been referred to in a dehumanising manner.

This is straight-up racist.

Combat is also lacklustre, and yes, I know this isn't a game focused on that, but it is a still an important component given the fact that your expansion relies on development of defence destruction of nests of hostile creatures.

Just get literally any other option:

• Satisfactory - 3D, finite world, different kind of challenge, also has subtle anti-corporate messaging which is cool.
• Dyson Sphere Program - also 3D, has multiple planets!
• If you're more interested in management-style games, my recommendations are Oxygen Not Included and Going Medieval.
• Shapez dot io - completely abstract factory building
