Message to people funneled here from the front page considering picking up Factorio:
It is an excellent game. It will ruin your life for a few months if you get into it. Some people play until they complete the main in-game goal of launching a rocket. Some people play with the in-game logic circuits system until they practically deserve a degree in electrical engineering.
There is an endless supply of tutorials on
YouTube, but some people consider too much explanation of the games mechanics to be spoilers, as a lot of the fun is figuring it out for yourself.
People
speedrun this game, and it’s unreal to watch. It’s one of the only games I respect when it comes to speedrunning because the runners need to do an actual fucking engineering project manager’s worth of work to design and optimize your run. Spreadsheets and all.
When building, focus on getting it to work before getting it to be perfect. If it’s stupid, but it works, then it ain’t really that stupid. That said, it pays to plan ahead, and it pays to be organized and leave yourself way more room than you think you need.
There are in-game enemies that will wreck your shit periodically, but there’s no shame playing on “peaceful” mode for your first run while you nail down the basics.
The game has trains and they’re fucking rad.
It’s not for everyone, but while people are intimidated by it, it’s easier to pick up than it seems. There are mods that make it even more complex too, if you’ve had your fill with vanilla.
It’s worth every penny full price but it is also very occasionally on sale (for the first 4 years or so of early access, it was infamous for never going on sale).
This is the kind of game that makes you smarter. If you are just buying it to own the reddit retards, do your self a favor and actually give it a try.
