With the massive success and good will generated by Fallout 76, you can't blame Bethesda for wanting to cash in with a premium service. Similarly, I'm waiting for a rerelease of Sonic '06 with a fully autonomous camera and a disc shaped like Sonic's head so it sounds like somebody grinding keys when I play it.

It keeps happening because Bethesda is making more money from FO76 than it's costing them (hosting + whatever skeleton crew is ruinning) - considering how unbelievably slow the updates are (practically non-existent and bad) it must be a really small crew that's mainly focused on primarily cash shop shit.
Bethesda will tank this model all the way until the game is free to play and then just triple down on the cash shop.

I bet they're gonna start selling scrap in the atom shop next. Like in Fallout 4 you could buy shipments of 25 adhesive for 1200 caps or whatever? Only it's going to be 1200 atoms!
