It's horseshit to say the gameplay in New Vegas isn't fun. There's a huge variety of builds, traits, perks, weapons, and other shit to use that can make every playthrough unique. Enemies are bullet spongy and the shooting mechanics are sub-par, but the guns are punchy, the gore is satisfying, and you can solve almost every quest in a variety of different ways.
This idea that running through New Vegas is like pulling teeth just so you can listen to some new faggot talk to you about local politics is nonsense.

This is enough to make the shooting miserable for me. I've never really understood the people that think hunting deathclaws is fun.
The crafting mechanics are fucking annoying. Weapons shouldn't break at all.

There is this friend I have. I wanted him to like Fallout since we're teenagers, I talked with him about the lore, the characters and the worldbuilding it has to offer, he never took the chance to actually play the games and he said he was boring because the start of New Vegas was slow and 3 because the world was bigger and overwhelming to him, I give up on making him watch the show.
Today, he says to me excited that he's gonna watch the tv show and after that, he loved every minute of it.
I feel the biggest feeling of hopelesness and disgust right now, I don't even know what to say.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I had in mind.
After everything I've tried to make him like the series, because I knew he would like it because he likes the post-apocalypse subgenre. That was a slap in the face.

It is one of the most pants-shittingly terrifying things you can do in New Vegas since even with power armor and HP/DR/DT boosting perks and chems you're still going to die in like two hits once they close the distance, and they leap. The Deathclaw Promontory and Quarry Junction are the only places in the game you're going to wish you had a Fat Man handy.

1&2 look like ancient artifacts to zoomers & NV scares casuals. I had a friend in 2011 install and play NV only to tell me she uninstalled after leaving Doc Mitchell's house because the game wouldn't pinpoint tell her where to go and she got scared/startled by going beyond Goodsprings and hearing something behind her to see a radscorpion on her ass.
Meanwhile 4 tells you exactly what to do and how to do it which is what casuals love; an experience, not an adventure or an immersion into a fantasy realm.

Waypoints, onscreen instructions, and markers have dulled people who play games since the 6th generation. GTA III wouldn't have been anywhere near as popular if it didn't have huge markers and waypoints holding your hand and onscreen instructions that tell you what to do on a mission.
To expect people to take dialogue into consideration is expecting too much out of them.
