I have finished the main story in Fallout 3 (what a shit ending) and the game keeps crashing after the ending slideshow. Is there a way to fix it?
Are you playing with a custom race? If so, the game will always crash there without a patch.
BTW, the ending was even shittier before Broken Steel, your radiation immune companions or straight up slaves you could own would all tell you to fuck off or that it is "your destiny to go in that chamber". Broken Steel fixes that, at least for radiation free companions, you still can't force your slaves to go in there.

All because we where meant to be Jesus Christ Maryland style.

they couldve put anything like the activation needs a biometric reading or a blood or literally anything more than
just "uhhyeah it HAS to be you because uhhh reasons and stuff"

They ruined my boy Charon. You don't really know much about him, other than that he was brainwashed as a child and he has to do ANYTHING that the holder of his contract tells him to. That's why he kills Ahzrukhal only after you buy his contract from him, no doubt over all the nasty things he had to do because of him that he didn't want to do.

So, how does that translate into the actual game? Well, if you want to hire him when you have another humanoid companion, he tells you he doesn't feel like going with you, and he decides to bum around in the 9th circle, where Ahzrukhal's body is likely still rotting away in public. What about turning on the purifier at the end of the game? Well, if you have Broken Steel installed, he has a brain blast and says he just realized he is immune to radiation, so turning on the purifier won't be an issue at all. If you don't have Broken Steel, however? Well, he tells you to piss off because "this is not part of the contract". Okay, buddy.

Quite an interesting character ruined by the game he's in. Shame, he's the only human companion that follows you no matter what karma you have, so he's the most accessible, and the most interesting companion in the game.

The whole plotline of Fallout 3 is fucking stupid and full of holes, so looking for one particular plothole is an exercise in futility when there is another one waiting right around the corner. I mean, the story is centered around a water purifier, but then any character in F4, even those with 1INT can just build a whole bunch of them at level 1 in Sanctuary. Smaller scale ones, of course, but it's still the same principle. Why the fuck were these chuckleheads in DC having so much trouble with this, again? BTW, in the real world, you can purify water with just some sand.

Its supposed to be because they are trying to purify all the water in the wasteland, the rivers, lakes etc. Because a purifier limited to a city would still require you to probably pay for it, whereas if the river is clean you can go drink from there and not worry about someone wanting you to pay for it or hoarding it...except that would still happen as I see factions like the Outcasts, and some large Raider clans building dams or similar structures.
I think it would be slightly better if James was instead working to try to restore the world to prewar status, bring back the greenery, get rid of mutants etc something like that.

No, I think it might have been related to one of the mods. It seems to be fixed, although I picked a different ending, I sent Fawkes to activate the purifier.
I thought the pacing of the story felt rushed near the end. You barely got introduced to the Enclave and the Brotherhood and it's already the final act.

Oh so they changed it later. Sure I'm the hero but why not send a mutant who can walk safely in a radiated environment? Hell, there's even an objective in the quest where you meet him in a vault where he stops you and says that he can go grab the GECK in the radiated room, lol

No, the purifier only cleans one single riverbed. The surrounding water in the Potomac is still as irradiated as ever. It would be a much better idea to just create a working purifier for all 2 or 3 actual settlements in The Capital Wasteland then help out with whatever Li needs instead of chasing a delusional dream out of his own ego. James is just an idiot, he essentially just created one big purifier and wasted a GECK to do so, when he could have just as easily brought water to people without getting himself killed. The only saving grace here is that Lyons is a bleeding heart, so instead of doing the Brotherhood's job he becomes an errand boy for James post mortem, once the purifier actually works. If you poison the purifier, he still goes thru with it even tho "there are some issues that need to be sorted out", killing hundreds of people in the process funnily enough.

Thankfully, the entirety of Broken Steel is just a skirmish between the two with an actual satisfying final conclusion. You can even destroy the BOS if you really don't like them, altho sadly you can never properly join The Enclave without mods. BS really is just an essential part of the game and should have been a free update, rather than sold as DLC.

It's like they wanted to make James mission seem important but then not at the same time. It's really bizarre. Were they worried about having to respect it in future games or something?
The whole thing just amounts to one big waste of time.

Emil is a retarded hack and wanted him to be an analogy for Jesus Christ. That's it, there is nothing more to James.
BTW, in one of the story drafts, your dad would be found in Vault 87, captured by mutants and already in the process of being turned into some FEV abomination like the half-mutant you find dead in one of the chambers. In fact, it is believed that this model WAS your father at one point. You would have to kill him, and realize that his stupid quest to look for the GECK only ended with him dead, a much more realistic outcome. They should have stuck with that and made the last act of the game entirely about Brotherhood vs Enclave with the purifier being a minor spoil of war thanks to it still not working, but you know Emil: When he's got a "vision", you better watch out!

I actually like this idea way better. I could definitely see colonel Autumn spewing some shit like
"With our engineers we could easily finish your father's work and get the purifier up and running. All we need is the code your father gave you so we can access its systems without any fuss."

[What if I don't have it?]

"We could theoretically brute force our way in with enough time. It's just much quicker to use the code."

You could still choose to poison the purifier as per Eden's plan like an asshole but it would've been cool to be able to side with Autumn and finish the purifier using Enclave resources or something. Maybe it could've even been a speech thing where you have to convince James to even give you the code before he dies. Maybe realizing it was all possibly in vain to begin with. What would be the point of giving you the code to an unfinished hunk of junk?
Then it could be a nice surprise later when it actually comes in handy.

I assumed that in time the rest of the potomac would be cleaned, if GECK was wasted to basically only clean the water for Rivet City thats gay.Should instead be like you said, build a water purifier for every major settlement.

they probably were worried about respecting it in future games, only for Fallout 4 to give a "canon" ending, since you can destroy the brotherhood in 3 and infect project purity, but then the Brotherhood shows up stronger than before in 4, meaning its canon the Lone Wanderer helped them and didn't destroy them.

Something tells me that the whole Raven Rock section was meant to be a time to walk around and talk to people, if not downright give you a choice to side with The Enclave proper. Raven Rock was later changed into yet another shooter gallery, I believe the reason for that was Bethesda being burned out from all the various guilds and factions of Oblivion. They wanted a very simple "good guys vs bad guys" story, ie something like Star Wars. That's how we got the BOS vs Enclave conflict in the final game.

That’s basically what they did with the Fallout 4 Institute, is it not? Though it’s not like the Institute’s goals make that much more sense.

F3 is just a rehash of F1 and F2 stories: infiltrate mutant facility (mutant vault), find GECK, destroy Enclave's base, fix water problem.
There are some sparks of good storytelling there, such as Tranquility Lane or Blade Runner-style investigation, but they are few and far between.

Idk man fallout 3 was always like a cartoon or a sitcom to me. Mostly because everyone is designed to be a retard.
You walk into town? There 2 retards pretending to play super heroes.
You go underground? There a bunch of retards that are pretending to be vampires.
You go do the main story? There a retard who pretends like i know him and he is my archnemesis.
And most importantly: Me. A retard who is playing a game that pretends it has a serious story with all this goofy shit around me.
Dont get me wrong New vegas has plenty of goofy shit. Like the idea of the Kings is goofy as fuck. But it kinda works? Mostly because under the cosplay and voices there motivation behind the faction or the person.

The Kings made sense in New Vegas since Elvis Presley was a huge part of Las Vegas culture and history. The man was one of the biggest celebrities associated with the city which is why there's so many Elvis Impersonators today.

They really wanted to include a few Elvis songs in the radio but doing so would cost Obsidian a shit ton of money since he's a big name. so they still wanted at least some representation for the King of Rock and Roll.

Primm has a 'wacky' robot that LARPs as a cowboy because the state of Nevada was once part of the untamed frontier which was the backdrop of the Wild West. So thematically, it makes sense too.

Mr. House turned a bunch of tribals into Mafia stereotypes because technically, Las Vegas wouldn't have been Las Vegas if it weren't for the Mafia's contributions. See Bugsy Siegel.

I can't really pinpoint why Superheroes, Vampires, Lord of the Flies (Little Lamplight) nd Waco (Republic of Dave iirc is a joke on Waco) have to do with Washington DC or the greater Virginia area.

I'm going to head back to London soon, maybe today. As I said a few months ago, I had to put my playthru on hold due to not having enough time and simply playing too many games. I ended up going with Dead Rising achievements instead, games I played to death years ago...yeah, not looking good for this game's review.

Don't get me wrong, it's not bad. In fact, for Fallout 4 it's pretty damn good. The main quest, tho? It's just...boring, it doesn't grip me at all. You don't end up caring about anything you do, the characters involved are trash, and about halfway thru the game drops the plot entirely to do what NV and F4 did and have you choose the faction you want to side with for the rest of the playthru. Problem is that you only get 3 of those factions, and only one of these have any interactions with you prior to this point...and all they did was make horrific experiments that went wrong or they lied and fucked you over. Why you would want to side with Angel is beyond me, but your other 2 options are 5th Column(reddit fascists) or Camelot(literal medieval larpers, BOS stand-in due to no power armor). For the latter two, you don't get ANY interaction with them at all, if you sequence skip and try to head to their HQ early it's locked and no NPC will talk to you. What?

This is what really kills it for me, can you imagine if New Vegas didn't give you any NCR or Legion quests at all and you could only interact with them after your visit from the Lucky 38? Even Fallout 4 gets it right, you can work with 3 different factions independently to the main quest and then you get a second tier of their quests once you progress far enough in the main quest to find The Institute, at which point they become the fourth faction you can side with. Not like London doesn't have any other factions worth joining, but you can't do anything with them either. Tommies aren't the British NCR like the previews made them out to be, they are involved with one main quest, several later faction quests and a few minor side quests. Their biggest involvement in the game is the "Lost Tommies" quest that gives you a unique Combat Shotgun and that quest is locked behind level 20. Vagabonds are another good faction, one you can join right away if you want to ignore the main quest like I did, but they aren't a faction per say: They're a guild, they have their own isolated little story that doesn't effect the main quest at all and you earn a few fun rewards for working with them. That's it, once their questline ends, it's done, the guild is finished. Very disappointing, especially since early on the devs would have you side with them for the main quest but that was just...dropped, not even a Minuteman/Yes Man route if you pissed off the other factions.

So yeah, after experiencing the best that this mod has to offer and then being stuck in a boring quagmire of political drama involving people I had no interest in, I decided to go back to play Dead Rising. Good choice, since I don't think it even matters that I don't remember what I was doing, out of the three factions I was given I choose Camelot and I can only wonder what these chuckleheads will want me to do. Probably stab some things with an antique sword and their questline will culminate in building a medieval catapult to break thru the walls of Westminston, I mean what else can you even do with them? One nice thing I can say about them is that they have an SAS hardass ghoul called "Merlin", but they really couldn't just add Tommies and have him work for them? I guess I will make the best of it.

Anyways, I'm thinking of dusting off my GECK skills and making another small mod. The old one I made, with recipes and junk overhaul is completed, I won't update it again since it now has another dependency I can't be bothered to remove for a separate release. What I am thinking of is changing the "body type" text at the start of the game and bringing back the gender option like how modders did with Starfield, removing a reference to the 6 gorrilion holohoax in the Museum, and completely overhauling the cringy GOG terminal at the start of the game so it's lore friendly. Maybe there is some other woke/cringy text I can't remember off the top of my head, I will change that too. If I get around to doing this, I will upload it here.

Edit: Here is the mod
Simple job, most of the time was spend actually looking for the internal entry names for the messages.
This is the poz removal mod, here is what it changes right now:
*"Body Type" in the intro changed to "Gender"
*Cringy Patreon paypig terminal at the start changed to Smythe's personal terminal. It is now locked behind a Novice password and has plenty of lore to set the early player up for what's waiting for them in the game proper
*"Holocaust" entry in the Imperial War Museum changed to a more grounded exhibit talking about the prisoners of war taken during the Resource Wars and European Civil War
*"Hun's Buzzsaw" loading screen changed to "Hitler's Buzzsaw"

If I find anymore, I will change these entries as well. I haven't seen a mod that changes the body type to gender for London, so I daresay I am the first in the world who made this mod. Feel free to spread this around if you want, as long as you give me credit. I don't actually care about that, but I do want people to know that "30+GameOvers" made it. I feel there is a certain kike who might not like that name being mentioned, so I want as many people to know about it as possible.

Considering he's there to show off and talk about the Vicki and Vance exhibit there's no reason not for him to be tacky since he's supposed to be turning the hotel into a tourist trap.
Republic of Dave
Some dude setting up a homestead and declaring it to be his personal and sovereign fiefdom complete with personality cult isn't exactly out of touch with the world being a hellish post-apocalyptic wasteland though.
