Fallout series

It's the only one I've finished. Tried new vegas and.. it's interesting but I don't know...
Believe me NV is really worth the investment, especially if you have all the DLCs. It's one of my all time favorite games but I love the series in general, besides 3 kinda indifferent towards it overall.

>we'll never see a body horror gorefest Fallout again
>another 2 entries it'll be rated +13 at worst
I hate it. I fucking hate that gore and "wants to die but can't" type horror is reserved for indie games.
It's because gaming industry (and the rest of the media industry) is hellbent on fanfiction to justify these type of writings as actual "literature."

Bumping this thread since I caught this
Fallout London is nearing completion, and it looks like they're more or less just wrapping up production. If you don't know, FOLON is a massive overhaul mod for Fallout 4 taking place in post war UK, with it's own story, factions and actual RPG mechanics added in. They're working concurrently with other major projects, like Miami(Similar but closer to Fallout NV esque DLC to Fallout 4 in nature than a completely new game), Capital Wasteland Project(Fan remake of Fallout 3) and F4: New Vegas(Ditto but for New Vegas. Had drama in the past, so it might be compromised).
Good to see fans doing what Bethesda simply can't anymore. If anyone has that Fallout itch, I would stay tuned, hopes are they will release the mod before the end of the year(Miami team said something similar as they are also nearly finished). OST is 100% done already so you can listen to nearly 5 hours of original music on their channel right now(again, same with Miami project)
Hopefully, good times ahead for Fallout fans. Frontier era was a dark time for the community, and I hope these two projects knocking it out of the park can bring back some hope for major overhaul projects like these.

This year? Man I dunno about that but I am glad to see these making progress, even if I don't have much faith in them. I am more interested in Miami overall due to the setting but since we will probably never get a Fallout game even as good as 4 ever again I'll take what I can get.

The mod content that ties F3 into pre-vegas into new vegas+mods is enough gaming to keep people going for hundreds of hours, before even stepping into F4+Mods. FOLON looks interesting though if I were to be picky, I want to follow the story of the BOS going East.

Bethesda should just hire a load of mods and pay Obisidian to make F5. It would be cheaper and the end product would be better.

After outer worlds, I have zero confidence in Obsidian making anything remotely related/adjacent to Fallout without having half of the work already done for them.

As far as TTW goes, ever since I first played New Vegas I always imagined the Courier to be my character from 3 sent out on some sort of covert scouting mission by the Brotherhood to check up on the west coast and see what they're up to. And the bullet to the brain from NVs opening was just enough leeway to make that headcanon work to an extent. Certainly makes more sense than a random mailman being capable of doin even half the shit 6 does in NV

It's easy to hate on OW but it's a really solid foundation for Obisidian's first new RPG in decades. Compare their teams size and budget to that of Bethesda and Starfield.

Some characters may be ugly, and the writing may be a little rushed on the good vs bad, there's still nuance and the ability to murder everyone that moves. OW delivers what it promised; Fallout set in space.
Starfield delivered nothing what it promised; Fallout in space, and couldn't even keep the promise of 1000 planets. Hell, Starfield doesn't even have Melee!

OW is an RPG made by a studio who can still make RPGs. Starfield is a poorly executed R pajeet G with an over-inflated budget and 0 talent.

Interesting idea. The courier has been Total Recall'd by Enclave/Evil NCR to convince him that he is just a courier and not a BOS scout? I like that.

Heh. That's a good head-canon.
My headcanon is just the Lone Wanderer, after all the shit he/she does in Capital Wasteland; finds the subway terminal and with the urge of still exploring and left all behind about Dad and the BoS/Enclave East Chapter closed for good. Stops at the Divide (before the bombs fell in Lonesome Road DLC) and the rest is history.

Anyway, i'm tired to do a FO3 playthrought before FNV. So i'm gonna play just FNV this time.

I'd be more forgiving of OW if it wasn't jerked as the Fallout killer since its very first teaser. Which is exactly what it was advertised as, only to end up with a game that's just as shallow as what every Beth hater claims their games to be. Right down to the lefty "capitalism bad" message the game ends up delivering. Pretty world(because it just gets copy-pasted over and over, including the gear, cuz muh capitalism), but bland as fuck gameplay, and story/choices.
Seriously though, I remember an instance of one of the companions getting stuck on a piece of terrain that was easily jumped over but the AI decided to run against an invisible wall for an hour. Yes, I'm retarded enough to let the game run against an invisible wall for a real world hour to see if it'd course correct at some point. And no, it didn't. It's the exact same jank you'd expect from a Beth entry without any of the dumb fun/charm allowed.

Glad to know some people appreciate autism as far as the New Begas intro goes. Legit thought I was one if the very few who thought if that sort of reasoning, and happy to see I'm not alone in that level of spergary

Although I've never played New Vegas, I have a similar Head canon of my Lone Wanderer being The BOS' equivalent of Kellog, in that he is this enhanced cyborg almost super soldier that they send to do dangerous missions where they can deny all involvment, and the explanation for the Cyborg implants from the perk of the same name being that Scribe Rothchild performed jew magic surgery on him to repair the radiation damage from project purity.
DamnI should set up TTW and do a full playtrough of Fallout 3-NV and then end with a Fallout 4 using Alternate Start to pretend its the same character through all three games

Character stats and the setting are what I would consider the foundation of an RPG, and The Outer Worlds bungled both.
It wasn't perfect but it was; a new entry, a new team, on a budget, on a deadline and had woke involvement. What they accomplished was significantly better than Starfield and The OW DLC is a lot of fun.

I think you're being too harsh on the game, all things considered. Have you never been stuck in terrain in skyrim or the other fallouts?

The capitalism bad and 'the fallout killer' advertising was the usual level of schlock wokery we get in most games and, if we're honest, all open world games are 'capitalism bad', just with a deeper story/nuance to it. IIRC Obsidian didn't have the luxury or time or money, so a quick story was thrown together. Microsoft couldn't have Obsidian upstaging Bethesda.

I have high hopes for OW2 being a better game than starfield

I'm all into that autism head-cannon/ulterior motives. It's an RPG afterall. ATM I'm doing a 'cleanse the wastes' playthrough where only the BOS survive because the NCR have been corrupted through power, Casers legion are animals and New Vegas is a resource-draining blight on a waste-land trying to rebuild

TTW really does tie the two games together, it's almost a completely new experience compared to just F3 or NV by itself. Just wish the NV portion of TTW wasn't so easy after all the level ups and gear you bring over, and no taking that away artificially doesn't make for a better game

After Starfield, I don't want to see ANYONE shitting on Outer Worlds. That game is a certified classic compared to that slop, showing how even a middling AA project can run circles around Bethesda. Looking forward to the sequel, hopefully it will be much better

After playing Old World Blues again it got me thinking about how the Institute could have been improved in 4. I think the problem is that they take themselves too seriously. It's possible to write a story with a fictional organization without being totally serious all the time, like Aperture Science. The problem with the Institute IMO was that they did things without really explaining the motivations behind doing them. Even if they used a cop out reason and explained that everyone in the Institute had some form of psychosis/schizophrenia that would have been better.

For once Oxhorn actually made an interesting observation in one of his videos. Despite the Institute having so many resources at their disposal, the laser rifle they produce is somehow inferior to the one that was made before the war. While probably not an intentional this is a funny bit of environment building. The fact that despite being geniuses they overthink a problem to the point where they produce a worse solution than if they approached it more simplistically.

Pull my cynical card; mildly disappointing like New California. I stand by my earlier stated beliefs that Fallout is distinctively American, as Metro is Russian and STALKER Ukrainian. Setting it anywhere outside the contiguous 48 is a terrible idea.
