Fallout series

I decided to install Fallout: New Vegas again using the Viva New Vegas modlist and then added some of additional mods as well. It runs really well compared to what I was used to playing. Anyways, I can see why people fawn over this game all the time. It's also clear how much better the writing is compared to Bethesda's writing.

Although I'm enjoying the game, a part of me thinks about all the cut content and that this awesome game could've been even better. I hope that one day Fallout: New Vegas gets a remake because it deserves to have the content that the developers couldn't add due to time and/or console restraints.

"Another thing with modern Fallout is the obsession with androids and making the franchise into something like Westworld or Terminator"
"Terminator"
Did we forget about Skynet in Fallout 2, or the entirety of Fallout Tactics already?

No, because Fallout 2 also introduced the extraterrestrial stuff and the future of the franchise was definitely going to be about space colonies at the time that that game was made. But the writers of New Vegas pulled back the franchise into a more grounded state where the focus was still a downtrodden world and lack of civilization. With scattered groups of communities that lacked any long term vision or thriving existence. And basically retconned the direction that Fallout 2 and Tactics were going.

I don't know what direction I'd call Fallout 3, 4, and 76. Other than aimless really. Or mediocre and illogical and not canon. But New Vegas was a far more serious game than Fallout 2 and much closer to Fallout 1 in tone. It still had the incredibly goofy stuff like the pop culture references, Fisto, Wild Wasteland, and pretty much all of Old World Blues. But the writing in Dead Money or Honest Hearts had the serious design of the first game that nothing in the franchise had really had again (and still hasn't since).

What I mean is that Fallout was way into Terminator territory even in it's early days. You quite literally get to hire Skynet as your own personal companion in 2 and the entire endgame of Fallout Tactics is composed of you fighting robots who want to make humans extinct. There is even a Terminator 2 reference in a random encounter
Fallout never really had a direction as a franchise, biggest thing holding all games together are it's inspiration(like Mad Max)
It's best to treat each title on it's own rather than comparing them to one another, otherwise you start getting into schizo conspiracy theories. Did you think New Vegas devs think about how Fallout should go into orbit even once when they were too busy figuring out how to make the game run at two digit frames per second on the PS3?(spoiler: they only figured it out mere 2 weeks before launch and even then performance is awful with all the latest patches)

I think it was Van Buren that was going to reveal that they wanted to go into space and the Vaults were a way to test humanity for space travel. There was an interesting video I saw that broke down how each Vault experiment would correlate to a space station.

That sounds about right I think, I will put that video on the list of things I will watch one day when bored while grinding in a game.
The future of the Fallout franchise was supposed to be in space. Fallout 3 (Van Buren) and beyond would have you going to space stations. And from there they might even have humanity begin colonizing other worlds. And the main twist in a future Fallout game would be that the Great War was actually started by aliens from another world. You can bet that Bethesda seriously considered putting Fallout and Vault Tech references in Starfield and tying the franchises together but were either too lazy or too stupid to get it done.
Honestly that sounds a bit more like an assumption, I haven't read the design docs for Van Buren in a long ass time but I am pretty sure the only space station mentioned in it belonged to the Enclave so it was likely gonna be a late game or end game dungeon.
But references to space would permeate their way through the series to other games after Fallout 2. Fallout 3 had Mothership Zeta (generally considered one of the worst pieces of the Fallout franchise). In Mothership Zeta the Enclave were rewritten to be founded on alien technology and Area 51. New Vegas would have a crashed UFO site (in Wild Wasteland) and the worst quest in the game Come Fly With Me. Mr. House talks about how in a century he has the technology to colonize other worlds with a fleet of starships. Fallout 76 is filled with references to space missions.
To be fair we had aliens shenanigans in the classic games too so it isn't TOO out of place, though that bit with the Enclave in MZ is just another reason why that DLC sucks so much balls and fucks up so much shit. Obsidian was just foreshadowing The Outer Worlds with House change my mind,
Another thing with modern Fallout is the obsession with androids and making the franchise into something like Westworld or Terminator. With some battle between the machines or robots and people being the centerpiece of the entire franchise and not the actual Great War and rebuilding society. The point is that the Fallout franchise is a lore mess. Every Fallout game after the first one has retcons or lore breaking moments or some sloppy writing in it. It's like Star Wars or Aliens where the parts are greater than the whole at this point.
That was mostly just 4 unless you wanna make a stretch with the Securitrons in NV but yeah it really has become a mess and it is all thanks to a the king of the chess club. JK it is due to a mix of Interplay, Black Isle Studios and Bethesda but I would put most of the blame on Interplay and Bethesda.

I personally find that modlist to be a tad pretentious at times but it does have some good stuff in it and does make some good points about shit like Project Nevada and other super outdated bloated mods. It's sad cause I have a lot of fond memories of it and Solid Project, at least there is that one guy on the Nexus working on making standalone versions of PN's weapons and hopefully eventually armor.

To be fair all of the Gamebryo based games had issues running on PS3 last I checked, like if I recall corrrectly Oblivion even had a MASSIVE bug that basically lead to your save turning into a brick if you played a single save for too many hours and I think that bug was in Skyrim too.

@Mysterious Autist XX
Well, both Vish and Wall are a bit autistic but at least they know about the myths of modding.

You're thinking about the Reference Bug. It was only for Oblivion, and it was on both Xbox 360 and PC until the Shivering Isles (update) came and patched it. In fact, this never impacted the PS3 release.

You know what's broken in FO4?
The explosive legendary effect on a freaking combat shotgun.
My favorite.

I got one of these on my first playthrough, and I will never forget blowing Brotherhood Paladins' legs off left and right during the elevator ride down the Mass Fusion tower. Just absolutely gruesome.

I swore there was something similar for the ps3 releases especially with Skyrim.

Explosive in general make almost anything really good in FO4 like it turns the Minigun from absolute trash into fucking disgustingly broken.

Nah, the PS3 version of Oblivion, IIRC, didn't have most of the DLCs. And the PS3 versions of all the Gamebryo games (TES4/5, Fo3/NV) ran like ass with the most amount of bugs (until the Switch version of Skyrim), to a point where most people I know will say that New Vegas was basically unplayable on the PS3 even with the patches.

I guess I was mixing the reference bug in with what I heard about the PS3 performance of each game, I only ever played them on xbox and pc so I never knew the exact details on how bad it was.

I wish Fallout had a wiki like the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages. I hate going on Nukapedia and seeing how bloated and poorly laid out everything is.

There were two independent Fallout wikis that Fandom bought. There was The Vault which was mostly archives of Fallout information and media. And then Nukapedia which was more centered around being a giant guide and walkthrough for every Fallout game. Well both wikis were subject to massive attacks from DDOS to vandalism to people trying to upload infected files. It was a nonstop attack. Eventually Fandom would offer to take control over both wikis. And the same days that they would be taken over by Fandom the attacks would cease. Now you have the independent Fallout Wiki and then version on Fandom that is run by Bethesda fans and employees.

So lemme get this straight... the two most well-known Fallout wikis were under constant DDOS attacks, infected files, and vandalism, and only when Fandom bought them out did the attacks. Stop... huh... I wonder why... 🤔

Quite suspicious. Really makes you go hrm.
Funnily enough this is just the Vault City dilemma IRL
The new independent wiki is shit BTW. I checked it around the LGBT month last year and it was just shoving "representation" even harder than Fandom(and that's quite an accomplishment)
