As laughable as Emil's quote about "pages of the book being turned into paper planes" is when you remember how bad his writing is, it makes sense when you consider just how stupid and ignorant your average tourist is.
Emil is just a strange creature because of shit like using "we just bit off more than we could chew" as a defense for why your open world rpgs dont have that much role playing and choices to make.

He writes linear stories based around the principal that the player cant really do much to change things despite the genre of game he is making being all about the player having a lot of options and chances to change things. If anything he needs to be kept on small scale stuff like side quests or unmarked quests and kept far the fuck away from anything main quest or faction quest related.

I also dont want anyone working on fallout with shit like this on their wikipedia page

Is it really a retcon if most fans won't consider it canon? The only people that care about the lore are youtubers(who just read the wiki and don't actually know anything) and old-time fans who will refuse to consider this piece of shit part of the Fallout universe, just like with POS and 76. Your average player/watcher won't care and will just give you the flouride stare if you use too many words, let alone comprehend what is going on in the story at any level. As laughable as Emil's quote about "pages of the book being turned into paper planes" is when you remember how bad his writing is, it makes sense when you consider just how stupid and ignorant your average tourist is. It's not just DSP who blindly skips past dialogue options and blindly goes towards the next objective marker anymore, that's your average nu-Fallout player.

Im reaching a point in my life where Im starting to legit not care about what I canon beyond of what I perceive it as such. For me, F1,2,3,NV are the true canon.
I'm reminded of The Pitt, which has a reverse-Autumn situation where the leader of the slavers is super reasonable and has a legit long-term plan whilst his underlings are just comically evil retards. Stealing the baby from its parents to get experimented on by some slaves in a literal monster-infested hellscape in a dirty lab is the most contrived attempt a moral conundrum ever and is emblematic of Bethesda's writing: no subtlety, especially when they attempt nuance - keeping the baby where it is, is the right choice. Asher did nothing wrong.

Problem is that there isnt a middle of the road option where you are able to convince Asher to work on making his underlings stop being sadistic pricks and maybe suggest a way to establish some sort of trading to allow a better flow of resources so the slaves have an easier time and can last longer without dropping from hunger, thirst or plain old sickness.

If you are going to be a slave master, at least dont be a fucking retarded one that allows his workers to become dangerously hungry and sick, a dead slave is a worthless one and you gotta go through the trouble of getting a new one.

Nvm that the rebel leader just wants to take Asher's place ultimately, he doesnt give a shit about slaves or The Pitt or anyone so for all we know, on the long term, he will just become another Asher but without the plans of actually make something out of the Pitt

In retrospect, Im surprised there wasnt a secret ending where you could offer clean drinking water from Project Purity if Ashur considers actually policing his own men and women along with providing said drinking water to the slaves, Ashur would have to be a fool to deny it.

It also makes me wonder if Project Purity could theorically work on The Pitt's river

Autumn's Enclave being the "nicer" version of the West Coast Enclave like Lyon's Brotherhood was the "nicer" version of the West Coast Brotherhood seemed like such a obvious opportunity or possible story divergence. I'd go as far to say that that the only reason Colonel Autumn is there when James dies is just to make the idea of siding with him completely untenable from a story perspective.

He coups Eden because he wanted to carry out a genocide basically, a mass killing of the "impure," who are still American citizens in Autumn's eyes by and large (and he means that, including Ghouls). It's incredibly simple, but if it wasn't counter-balanced by the fact he's indirectly responsible for killing your in-game dad, there's a trace amount of nuance there that siding with him wouldn't be completely off the table.

It's lame-ass simple, but outside of the Master in 1 and faction leaders in New Vegas it's actually par for the course. He could've represent a dilemma for the player, essentially long-term vs. short-term thinking with regard to Project Purity and future plans for the wasteland. Anything further than this would require essentially re-writing Fallout 3's main story, at least everything after the Enclave make their first appearance, you could probably keep everything up until that point more or less the same because there's nothing in-game that shows the Enclave are committing the same routine atrocities as in Fallout 2, the Master from Fallout 1, or the indiscriminate killing by the Calculator. Out of all the games up to that point his Enclave were effectively the most harmless villain-group and had the least dire consequences for the Wasteland should they have won — not any worse than the Legion at least, Lanius or Caesar.

I have always said that Fallout 3 had good ideas, even great ones but that were underexplored. One of the many things I disliked is the fact that the Outcasts are never brought up in the main story, at least in any important way. You'd think they would help out against the Enclave who is still a common enemy between them and the BOS. Maybe Lyonns would have sent the TLW to act as a neutral party to try to talk the Outcasts into joining back, even if temporarly, to stop the Enclave because this is a problem that will affect them sooner or later.

The Outcast issue was just handwaved away in F4 like many others as a stepping stone just to say "Arthur solved it because he is the bestest evah"

We also could have possibly had a BOS-Enclave alliance against Eden's branch to stop the FEV from being deployed and maybe the Autumn branch are given safe passage out of the capital wasteland. They could have made variations of alliances and endings.
There definitely has been a change in the YouTube algorithm and how it surpresses controversial or "rage bait " content as they would call it . Are they specifically targeting Synthetic Man ? Who knows, but him raging about " only " getting 50k+ views is indeed cringe as fuck ( most Youtubers can only dream of pulling those numbers in a single video).

When in doubt, pull it out. The chart, I mean.

It is implied that the raiders in the region are ultra-nasty due to whatever is in the water. This is why they are nearly feral, and it makes Arshur even more impressive for taming them. I do agree that The Pitt is far from being efficiently ran, but at the end of the day they are literally the only ones who come close to having any industry in The East Coast, so hey, whatever works. I definitely don't feel sorry for the slaves after finding out how pathetic and useless they are once I freed them.

There was a cut quest to re-unite The Outcasts with The Brotherhood(you even get the first bit of dialogue from it, when talking to Bodwitch or whatever his name was about The Outcasts, this would start the quest). This was also originally how you got The Alien Blaster, if you're wondering why they even accept it as one of the items for trade in the Outcast radiant collection quest. It was cut for unknown reasons, and it makes the faction so meaningless, the only real quest they have is in a fucking DLC.

bethesda's mottos since oblivion have been "Missed potential" and "we had a cool idea but gave up halfway through"

It was the first one I played so there's a nostalgia factor to it's relatively positive regard in my mind. I can shit on and tear down the writing but I won't avoid talking about it or playing it again just because I can recognise its flaws nowadays. I think I hold it in higher regard than 4 but I think nostalgia is doing that. I think in terms of exploration, despite 4's better map and less bland aesthetic, I preferred exploration the Wasteland in 3 than in 4.

When I did play New Vegas for the first time, I approached it like 3, assuming there was a sole path to go through to reach the ending. Yes Man/Independence was, until I played it again years later, the only actual ending to that game in my mind and the reason young-me rated it so lowly until I actually realised I was being a retard.
I liked it because it was the first one to come to consoles. Fallout 3 for me was the first one that would be released for 360 and PS3. Which was an important time in my life.

Okay, I just got reminded of a particular moment in Fallout 3 that always bothered me. Its small but its kind of immersion breaking.

So you get the GECK and the Enclave captures you, right? The bizarre thing is that it doesnt matter if you got companions, they wont help whatsoever. It would have helped to at least have a line saying "we got the prime target, the others were forced to retreat into the vault's exit" or something of the sorts because, as it stands, your companions just kind of ditched you and returned to their merry lives like nothing happened.

Maybe they could be there with Fawkes trying to rescue you, it would have been a good way to re-group with them rather quickly instead of having to fast travel all over to get them.

They must have spent 80% of their time creating the Steelyard and placing those ingots though.

Oh absolutely, seems like the game is ingot collecting which, to their credit, is pretty fun and the low resources situation does forces you to play it smart instead of going guns blazing. It helps that the guy you give the ingots to is one of the few legit nice slavers as he legit compliments and rewards you on your work. He does come off as a decent guy forced in a bad position.

The fans are keeping the dream alive.

Honest Hearts is the best written DLC even though it is blatantly unfinished because Chris Avellone needed more funds to make Kreia 2.0 even more of a mouthpiece.

Joshua and Daniel are actually well written despite it being a rush job. It’s much more complete than Old World Blues or Lonesome Road in that sense. The narrative and exploration work. Randall Clark also makes the narrative more engaging. Zion is actually fun to traverse over the Lonesome Road.

Just had one of those beautifully insane gameplay moments which only the jank of Fallout 3D can provide.

Playing the New Vegas portion of TTW. Just arrived in Novac. Was short of a wrench to craft a weapons repair kit, so I stole the one on the workbench in the disused garage opposite the motel.

Somehow, from across the fucking town, No-Bark sees me steal it and immediately turns hostile, running up to me and throwing punches. Totally fucking unprepared, I decide to run to my motel room assuming I can stay there until he cools down.

Seconds after going inside, fucking No-Bark bursts in, and somehow KNOWS I have a weapon in the bed footlocker near the door (I’m near the fridge) - he picks up the fucking 10mm pistol/ammo (literally the only items in there) and starts shooting me; I have no choice but to return fire and shoot the bastard dead, since being a dickhead I haven’t saved after 2 hours making a shit ton of progress and he’s killing me!!!

At that point, I remember there is no way of carrying a body from an interior cell to the external (for fuck sake), so No-Bark is now rotting in my bathtub until I decide to delete him completely with console commands.

Not sure if a mod caused him to retrieve the weapon, but I had no idea NPCs in the game could obtain items from containers - I can’t think what mod that could be though…!

Sensationalist fucking hooey indeed. God I love this fucking game.

Enemies have always been able to path to weapons- dropped or in containers- you just don't see it often because it's one of the few non-combat AI calculations that actually takes NPC skills into account.
As a result, in games without said skills (ex: Fallout 4), you see it a lot more often as the calculation is simply 'what does biggest number', with no regard for personal safety.
I think it originated in Morrowind but was unused? Don't quote me on that because i don't know for sure.
