I remember hearing that Yes Man was added late into development as a fail safe option, so I wouldn't be surprised if the build is around from when he started to come online as a possible endgame route.
Thats crazy to hear, he fits perfectly in the games plot its weird to hear he might not have existed. Unless he was always in the game but his involvement was planned to end with you killing him after he tells you he helped set you up and there isnt any copy in the system to re-upload.
made by the B team at BGS Austin, texas and the guy doing the weapon designs went back to 1/2/Tactics/NV for inspiration and since it was a spinoff product HQ in maryland didnt care
The devs at BGS Austin deserved to work on a proper fallout spin-off, 76 isnt amazing but there's a spark of true fallout in that studio.
heres another summary of the things found so far in the prototype
Its everywhere
Early? You need 75 lockpicking t
Skilled bug+heavy investment+using the level that gets you 75 to get the perk go back and respend then keep the perk
But at that point you're just making the game unfun for yourself.
Nah the fun of new vegas for me is being a guy who can change the outcome of the region and its groups however I want, getting certain stats high early on just allow me to get what I want when I want.
I also use the same level 3 save outside of gun runners to start any replay of mine just so I can fast track replays.

I completely agree, if 76 wasn't online/co-op whatever it is and I could enjoy the level of control that bethesda games are known for, I'd love it.

Of what was cut and changed, what would you say was the biggest loss for the release version? Obviously other than the major cutbacks to run on consoles.

Ulysses as companion, obviously. The game needed a Legion sympathetic one, and Ulysses would have also acted as a sounding board, of course. It's also likely he would have been a lot less cringe than he is in LR, so that's a win as well. Supposedly, Vulpes was going to become a Legion companion after Ulysses got cut, alongside Benny and Victor so that every faction would have one sympathetic companion for every faction rather than just Boone for the NCR, but I have no proof of that. Probably ran out of time and resources, Ulysses was cut for example because he had way too much dialogue and it would have been impossible to have it all translated by release date.

Huh, so is the base game at least worth a try?
No, Fallout 76 is a soulless grind-a-thon with barely any story. The environments and setting are nice, but not worth playing. You can't pirate it either since it's always online, and it's more or less unplayable without a yearly subscription, you get treated like a second class citizen and get put on shitty servers. I would wait for the map to be ported over to Fallout 4, ala TTW, it will happen eventually. Fallout: Appalachia is looking promising, it isn't porting over the assets yet but they are re-creating F76 locations using F4 assets.

I'm curious to see how he can be reverse engineered as a new companion with a different name and face. Haven't listened to all of the dialogue but he might be too similar to the LR Ulysses but we'll see.

I foresee the major problem will be VA though, maybe it's too hard but modders just cannot for the life of them get people who aren't trying to hard or get a sound quality similar to FNV's. Just hire a local theatre actor m8.

There already exists a Ulysses mod, altho obviously that's the one for the LR Ulysses. My guess is that once you complete the DLC and let him live, they will have him sit at the graveyard near the farm like in the early drafts. As for the VA, AI exists and will likely be used extensively, don't see the original actor doing the lines. Most of the assets are in, we just need voice lines and scripts.

definitely some of the companion and npc reactions and dialogue, theres a cut moment outside of the lucky 38 where a bunch of bystander people run up to you asking if it was you leaving the lucky 38, it aligns with the fact of the ncr and legion characters running up to you when you first leave the lucky 38.

or even better, the lucky 38 themed trashcan.

That still happens, except the bystanders keep their distance and talk amongst themselves. I am guessing too many NPCs running at the same time made the PS3 explode as the Xbox can handle a little more going on. It could have also messed with the pathfinding of the NCR and Legion NPCs, lord knows the game has enough of that.
Man, why couldn't Ulysses been a Legion companion (it sounds he dosent hold the legion in high regards, just respects its strength and still think its a better alternative to house and NCR.)? Would have been better then what we got.
Chris wrote too much dialogue for him. That's the reason, couldn't get it translated into all the languages on time, so he got scrapped alongside many, many other things in the last few months of development as the devs ran out of time, budget and console memory.

Yeah its fun, there is a lot to do before you hit the point of only being able to do dailies/weeklies.

If you can get it for cheap its worth it.

Never had an issue with servers my entire play time, other players are also really nice 99% of the time so its not like you are dealing with assholes who ruin the game.

People will tell you it's because they had no time, and to be honest that isn't true.

The real answer is the Consoles, though I would specifically call out the PS3, it doesn't matter if they had 24 months or 36, they were never going to fit everything on the 360/PS3.

The biggest enemy in NV's story was never Bethesda, and it was never time. It was the PS3 and 360.

The former devs specifically mention time was a problem due to their lack of experience with the engine and adding in too many useless features they regret today(Caravan card game, Reloading Bench ect.). How they programmed the game is very amateurish, but their techniques got much better in the DLCs as they learned how Creation Kit works, for example. Much of their experiments didn't work out and that was a lot of wasted time, you basically trip all over their half-started or failed attempts if you ever used a GECK. Not knowing the limitations of the engine was also a big problem, they tried creating a proper CRPG without knowing how hard it would be in this engine, and that's before the consoles got involved. Since they spend so much time developing what they had, the last few months were a mad dash to get the game working at all, that meant cutting out quite a bit of content to get the game ready for the ship date and to get the game working on consoles. Later, after the game got released, much more content was also cut to free memory for the contractually obligated DLC, and that's not mentioning how much time squashing bugs took, before and after the game got released.

Time was definitely the issue, but not because Obsidian had only 18 months to make the game, but because they bit off more than they could chew and they had to cut the game down at the last minute so it could be (barely) functional at all. All of these issues add up. You can bet if the old Obsidian had to do it all over again, many of the features would be cut so that we had a smaller, less ambitious, but more polished game at launch. Charlie Staples worked on New Vegas, and he was the main game designer behind Outer Worlds, if you want to see how much the experience changed the man. Look how much smaller in scale that game compared to NV, even tho many of the aspects are similar. I should also add that Outer Worlds is easily the most stable game they ever released, with barely any bugs or crashes, of which New Vegas is infamous for even after the latest set of patches by the devs and modders even today.

i haven't forgotten that PS3 skyrim modding is limited to 2GB because the console is a huge piece of shit meanwhile X360 can handle mods higher than 2GB no issues.

Been playing a bit with the JFsawyer mod on hardcore mode. The game really dose feel harder with the amount of damage the enemies make and me having to backtrack the to town just to sell stuff or heal broken limbs. The weather mod im using also mean it gets dark as shit during night time, Making it almost impossible to see anything a feet away from you. having to sleep more.

You also dont get any exp. im still level 2 after reaching the NCR outpost.

Early? You need 75 lockpicking to get it.
You can get it at lvl 3 if you cheese the way intelligence works, and also exploit the fact that the 'Skilled!' perk regifts you an extra +10 to skills if you rebuild your character before leaving the house at the start. But at that point you're just making the game unfun for yourself.
It's all academic, anyway, since That Gun + match rounds = Lucky without the hefty Lockpicking requirement. Same damage, same crit mult. similar spread, better DPS. It's even affected by Cowboy like Lucky is. The only thing Lucky has over it is style.

Unpopular but NV has too many companions as it is.

"I'm so glad you were able to come to terms with your crippling emotional trauma. Now get your ass back to the Lucky 38 so I can move on to the next one." - Me, on every playthough after the first

You can never have too many companions. You shouldn't hire every single one on every single playthru, that will always be a chore. Golden rule is a max of five, usually 1-2 will do depending on who your character would naturally get along with or depending on their role(Boone is a sniper, Arcade for energy weapons ect.). Fallout 4 has much more companions than NV, I can only imagine how much of a chore it would be if I went out of my way to have every single one of them idolize me and do their personal quest.

Of course, companions shine the best if you have a mod that lets you have them all at once in your party, rather than limiting yourself to one. You don't even need a mod, there is an exploit to let you do that on console, you can even bring them to DLCs that way(you also crash your game exponentially faster the more companions you have this way). If it works for Fallout 2(and Tactics), it works for me too.

I wish there were more interraction between companions. Like some of them hated each other. Ulysses and Boone would definitely had a beef with each other and they would force to choose one over another.
To be honest Ulysses would have issues with pretty much all of the companions since he is autistic tribal that likes legion.
