I thought the general consensus is that 4 is a decent enough game, but a terrible RPG.
Anyway, today's episode was a mixed bag. I'm getting really tired of the whole things went to shit after New Vegas concept, but I really like everything that's going on with the Vault Dwellers, both the ones in the vault and the Norm stuff. It's really cool seeing a vault experiment fall apart in real time. I also think the prewar flashback was really interesting (especially when the red soldiers were talking about soldiers being victims of the arms race), but I wish it were longer. I also think this week's BOS segment was good, which is surprising because that's usually the weakest part.
People hated Fallout 3's intro? That was probably the most memorable part of that game.
Wait actually? How playable is the game if you approach it as a Fallout game and not a MMO?
Also while I can't reply to the post, on the topic of TES/Fallout fanfiction shit, iirc VenturianTale played Skyrim as if his character was the same character from his FO3/NV playthrough, but I might be wrong (it's been like sixteen years since I'd even thought about him).

I find it hilarious how despite the overlap in posters, /tesg/ was pretty far apart from /fog/ in terms of posts. Last I went in /fog/ it was non-stop niggercattle shilling and seething over New Vegas and how it's a "tranny game" and how real men play Fo4 or something. Last I saw /tesg/ it was mostly the opposite, just with a lot of coomer posting. I rather take the former but knowing 4chan it probably devolved heavily.
I will never forget the seething over Sharty and Kiwifarms. It pains me to see 4chan in this state but at this point, fuck 'em along with the rest of the imageboards, they all suck (even more) now.

The Oblivion remaster seemed to go over really well with most people, and there wasn't any massive changes from what I know. I have hopes that the FO3 remaster will be at least very faithful to the OG game with a few quality of life fixes. It probably helps a lot that at the end of the day the Oblivion and eventual FO3 remaster are still running inside their original engines, and unreal just handles graphics.

Fallout always leaned on 50's retrofuturism, "World of Tomorrow" sort of stuff. Most robots in Fallout shouldnt look out of place in old Dr Who episodes or a sci-fi black and white serial like Lost in Space. DLCs like Mothership Zeta and Old World Blues leaned heavily on the "sci-fi" aspect of the asthetic, dont tell me you couldnt see the skeletons in the space suit enemies appearing in something like The Twilight Zone as a twist followed by a scare chord?
Synths felt like something out of maybe the 70/80's, like Terminator or Westworld. Maybe if they looked like Gen 1's only, it would fit better.
There was always a very visible distinction for robots, this whole "infiltration stuff" just doesnt feel Fallout enough.
There is something paradoxically dystopian about a dystopian setting about out of control corporate and government powers bringing the world to cinders getting fucking thematic meals made around them made by uncaring fast food mega corporation
Kind of muddling the core message there or somethin'.
Its also kind of hilarious and predictably hypocritical that this particular show that criticizes capitalism while almost never mentioning communism whatsoever, thus getting championed by Reddit, is doing these very capitalistic goy slop moves and these very same redditors will be all over this stuff with no self awareness whatsoever.

Well, I must applaud you. You were able to replicate Emil's style very well because it did make me want to strangle the nearest living and firebomb Bethesda's HQ in minecraft.
I refuse to believe that the Railroad didnt start disbanning afterwards because, without the institute, they kind of "lost" their reason to exist and I doubt these weirdos wouldnt start turning on each other and it would be really poetic if the synths members start turning on their R.R buddies because of simple tribalism and distrust.
And no one in the Commonwealth gave a shit because the R.R didnt care for it either.
Its the ending the Railroad deserves, disbanned, forgotten by most and hated by the few that do remember it.
But hey, they are not a West Coast faction so Im sure we are getting some confirmation in the show or F5 that they're ok and thriving somehow (based on nothing but "they just are").
God, looking back at Mass Effect and its almost like a window to a different world.

I still think the Synths were one of the best ideas 4 had, as for them coming from the 70's/80's: If FO4 decided to move the series culturally to the 70-80's from Fallout 3's 50's-60's, it could've worked wonders. There's already some bits and pieces of this in the game already like the Daytripper bottle design, many of the radio songs, and the overall environmental storytelling subplot about the dissent for the war and American government that was pretty much taken straight from those decades, which all makes me think that maybe that was a possible idea they had at some point.
But alas, we need to move things backward actually to the 40's-30's because we lost our best concept artist and something something Fallout was always 40's-50's.
I don't remember too terribly much about my short time with 76, but I do remember it feeling undeniably 70's-esque. so props for that I suppose, shame about the rest of the game.
They still probably existed for a couple years afterwards helping out the few (now finite) remaining synths, but yeah past that they have no reason to stay together. As for the turning on each other, there was something mentioned by Deacon that some members had differing views on how to treat Gen 1's and 2's, but since the primary person spearheading that (Glory) dies in the MQ, I don't really think they have much reason to start killing each other, if anything their lifespan is increased as a possible general social organization/community instead of an underground organization since while the Railroad may save the Synths, they sure as heck didn't make the commonwealth care about any more than they did before hand. So they'd likely stick together on the basis of "I have no one else and they'd all likely kill me anyways"
I also just remembered in the process of writing this that Doctor Amari exists whose whole purpose is to pretty much make sure that synths DON'T remember they're synths, so that's food for thought as well.
While I'm probably wrong they feel like the ones least likely to reappear in future games since their purpose has pretty much been fulfilled, but I'm sure they'll find a way to shove them into 5.

The environments of 76 remind me of childhood road trips through towns that hadn't changed since the 70s. Motels where the "rooms" are individual lodges with car ports, kitchens, etc etc. Its a shame 76 has such a well designed environment, while being completely devoid of an actual narrative.

New vegas was able to give you backstory too but it wasn't so much that it killed any sense of role-playing or OC it was just enough to fill in what your character was up to before the events of the game and more than enough untold for you to fill in.
4 essentially gives you pre made characters that you can kinda make your own once you leave vault 111 but they never truly feel like anyone but nate and nora.
I thought the enclave was done well in 76 considering how limited it is.
Yeah i heard about that update and got excited for expeditions only for them to be long dungeons set outside of WV. At least with Atlantic city we got some actual open world stuff.
Steel reign is very enjoyable and imo is worth checking out especially if you liked 3s brotherhood but wanted them to make more sense.
Love new vegas but 4 has objectively better gameplay. Oldfags can cope
Bethesda leaned way too hard into karma being a core thing of fallout and its 100% the cause of all that shit. Karma works better as an unimportant stat that just tallys up your good and bad choices.
Very playable but i would recommend doing the mmo public event stuff as they give good rewards. Honestly the only mmo aspect is other players and them hitting places full of junk you want and waiting for it to respawn alongside the handful of endgame stuff.
Get a key from g2a or on sale tho and save up any atoms you get for shop items that spawn items for you.

Im glad that 76s world gets the praise it does as its really good and BGS Austin deserves all the flowers for it.
You can still play it like one, other players are more of a benefit than a hindrance especially if they are selling meds for 5 caps a stimpak.

Treason and Finale decisions, respectively. You'll know what's what when they happen.
