Fallout series

In all fairness this could have been talking about gameplay, not necessarily the story.
Given the fact he starts talking about Dead Money and how it played after the powerpoint comment, I have a feeling this is the real context. The comically evil "Bethesda made Obsidian watch a powerpoint about why New Vegas's story was bad while taking 90% of the money and forcing Obsidian to lay off their workers." interpretation is funny as hell, but not likely.

I would watch it but i cant stand TK-Mantis.

"Everything Obsidian did wrong with game"
So, nothing that wasn't an improvement over Fallout 3. The world could have been more fleshed out, not the setting but rather the actual in-game map, but considering how much content we got in such a short development time, it's still a miracle we got what we did at all.
I bet this is all just one big coping session from Todd, Emil and Pete lmfao. New Vegas makes 3 look like a tech demo in comparison, and Emil's writing read like poor fanfiction(that includes a mech showing up during the final fight out of nowhere and BOS/Enclave fighting on the other side of the country for no reason, this is something a teenager would write).

not saying didn't happen but this is coming from Avellone, and no pic no proof.
We knew this happened a decade ago. The presentations were about how Fallout 3's streamlined approach to quests was better than New Vegas. And how players wanted to just run around and shoot enemies and get into combat. And not waste time with dialog choices or story moments. So the "better" design choice was to throw players into quests that involved combat, and give them strong weapons and armor immediately, to make shooting and looting available at the start of the game.

When Bethesda made Fallout 4 they did a bunch of internal presentations about the direction of the franchise and New Vegas was routinely criticized. Based on how Fallout 4, 76, and Starfield are more FPS than RPG games it seems like Bethesda got their wish. Fallout 4 probably has more than double the lifetime sales of New Vegas. And Fallout 76 is the most profitable Fallout game made yet because of the microtransactions. Bethesda definitely knew that making Fallout into an FPS game was easier to develop and would sell far more copies. And at that point they were already eyeing getting acquired by Microsoft or SONY.

I was thinking today about the inevitable New Vegas remaster that Bethesda will do within the next decade. I'm predicting a few things:

1.) They will Fallout 4-ify everything:
- Movement will be floatier and there will be sprint (probably not balanced for the game world)
- UI will just be copied from Fallout 4, just made yellow and somehow more bland and minimalist
- Enemy AI will be ripped from 4 and 76, with the janky cover shooting and all
- The F4 power armor system will be reused, except without fusion cores (not the worst idea, but it will be if they keep the modular system and the stupid back opening feature)
- They will implement the F4 junk system. Crafting, ammo crafting, and weapon modifications will all be folded into one workstation as an attempt to streamline things. Crafting will have workstation animations. You will be able to repair weapons with junk
- Grabbing an item requires you to hold down the interact button as opposed to pressing Z
- Weapon handling will be nearly 1:1 with F4

2.) They will alter with the game's style, removing its identity in favor of UE5-slop (like every remaster) and homogenizing it with the Fallout Brand
- Beloved yellow tint will be gone, game will just be yellow-ish brown surfaces, blue skies, and nothing in between. A generic desert.
- Robots and cars will be copied from Fallout 4, with the sheet metal toaster look everywhere
- Ghouls and supermutants will be copied from Fallout 4
- Deathclaws and radscorpions will be copied from Fallout 4
- The guns will be exaggerated ala Fallout 4, with inflated clown parts like the submachine gun from that game instead of the mostly-realistic look of FNV. That, or they just stick copies of the guns they were based on without any of the tweaks or flourishes on the original so they all just look like F4 mods.
- Everything else will be copied from the TV show in design, including Novac, the Legion, and all the other tweaks that have or will be made to locations, armor, and whatever else they touched that barely make sense for that point in the timeline
- People will be uncanny UE5 humans with Starfield dead eyes
3.) They will make numerous changes for the sake of Current Year
- Content warning at the beginning
- Gender will be replaced with Type 1/2 during character creation, alongside adding pronoun options (male/female)
- No more race selection, you just go straight to face modification after choosing your body type with the default presets looking somewhat similar to the original four (with Negro or Latine being the first option, of course)
- No more sex-specific traits like Confirmed Bachelor or Ladykiller, instead both are rolled into a single "suave seditionist" perk, opening all of the dialogue options and just giving a flat 10% boost to damage against all humans. No attempt to balance this, and criticism from players who only wanted one set of dialogue and bonuses will be met with the response: "Well, just don't pick the gay/straight options if you don't want to! The same way you don't pick evil options if you want to play a good character!"
- Previously female/male exclusive dialogue will now overlap at points, with male characters able to use previously female exclusive lines and vice versa, or maybe they're pronoun specific. Benny will become bisexual, along with any of the other sexable NPCs
- Instead of just Whites, blacks, Asians, and Hispanics, there will also be indians, middle-easterners, jews, and natives mixed into the random NPC race pool, with certain side characters being race-swapped to become full on Negro-Dravidians because they looked vaguely tan in the original. Whites will be a minority of course
- Great Khans will all be non-white
- Legion will still be mostly white, however
- Female couriers will be able to fight in the Fort arena
- General Lee Oliver will become a nigger

4.) Other changes I believe will happen
- New voice actors added in to add variety to the voice acting. Probably will be poorly directed compared to the original
- The effects of low SPECIAL will be reduced, so having low strength won't affect carry weight and low intelligence won't effect skill point gain nearly as much, for example
- Skill, SPECIAL, and level requirements will be reduced immensely for perks, allowing faster access to the good ones regardless of balance
- Weapon requirements and equipment condition will be scaled back in terms of harshness and consequences for the sake of accessibility and to bring it in line with F4
- Legion will have gorebags wherever they are alongside more crucifixions - even in temporary raiding camps
- Legion hit squads won't be nearly as frequent or dangerous as they are in the base game
- Game will be horribly optimized with only the crashes and the worst of the quest scripting bugs from the original NV fixed. Random bugs that hadn't been in the game since before the first patch will pop up
- References to the TV show will be added, like that note in Caesar's pocket or the pole in Freeside. Resulting in exultation amongst redditors everywhere
- Low-effort deluxe edition quest that gives you early game ranger power armor from the TV show like the DLC packs
This will come after the Fallout 3 remaster. Assuming that the TV show will still be going and not dead and forgotten (which it will become the moment it goes off the air), the cattle from that show's audience - who previously only played Fallout 4 on their PS5's - will all flock to the remasters and fawn over them. Trannies will jump ship from infesting the original to worshipping this one for updating it for modern standards, zoomers will consoom it, and Bethesda will make the last substantial profit they'll ever make before going bankrupt from ES6 suffering hundreds of millions in losses and dissolving into Microsoft forever

Oh, of course. That's why it will all be exported to half a dozen Jeet studios to make the game with AI-generated assets and vibe coding. None of the decisions will be made by a conscious individual. Soulless beings, be it jeets, troons, or AI algorithms, will decide what goes into the remake.

As to why I think they'd put more into Fallout; unlike the Elder Scrolls, Fallout isn't a dead IP. It's a husk, yes, but you know Bethesda is chomping at the bit to sell something substantial to the Fallout show cattle, and Fallout 4 was the most commercially successful Fallout title. I can easily imagine Bethesda shoving everything mentioned into the inevitable remake in order to appeal to the broadest market, then do the bare minimum when actually making the game. All to squeeze out the maximum profit, just like the Oblivion remake did by Skyrimifying things then dropping the game after a handful of updates.

and make it (somehow) more brown.
This will absolutely happen. Unlike Oblivion where raceswapping is impossible, Fallout is a (human) race-blind series. Anyone can be anything, so Freeside will absolutely look like New Delhi, only with cleaner streets and less thugs trying to murder you and rape your corpse.

I was thinking about the literal tinting, since NV is a very orange game, but entirely possible; it was crazy they had even a single Indian with Major Dhatri in the game (though given that Vault 15 had a lot of Subcons, it actually isn't that strange).

Shit... Dhatri is an Indian name? I always envisioned him as a chill big nigga. He's even AfricanAmericanOld in the GECK, but that's probably due to engine limitations. Now I'll only ever envision him as a jeet with a homosexual, overgroomed Bangladeshi beard (:_(

(though given that Vault 15 had a lot of Subcons, it actually isn't that strange).
Yeah, Aradesh is a really Indian sounding name and he does look very jeety, but I assume by 2161, the Vault had entirely muttified after the 4 or 5 generations after it sealed.

As I was thinking about this I had an interesting idea. If the game series was held by people who cared beyond making money and appealing to brainless retards, then we could have an interesting dynamic within post-war Californian culture. Historically, many civilizations have had a rulers all derived from a core, distinct, homogenous ruling class (think of WASPs in the USA, Normans in England, or the founding patricians in Ancient Rome).

What if in Shady Sands, the capital of the NCR, there was a core ruling population was directly descended from Vault 15, distinguished by their lack of racial distinction as well as their surnames which are specifically derived from ethnic groups who were non-existent in pre-war America and certainly didn't get into any Vaults (before Vault-tec vaults were retconned into being mad science experiments with a near 100% fatality rate and the bombs were survivable to everyone except the obligatory ambient skeletons, they were where the bulk of the surviving post-war American population came from).

The NCR elites would have Southeast Asian, or Subcontinental, or Middle Eastern surnames as a point of pride. Their heterogeneity would be their homogeneity, a belief that their differences made them both capable and worthy of expanding outward and absorbing all these disparate groups around California into their republic, explaining in part their strong, almost radical beliefs in Egalitarianism and multiculturalism as well as highlighting the cultural imprint the Vault 15 experiment had on their new nation.

This worked under Tandi, but after her death the nation's been stuck in perpetual political turmoil and deadlock. There's no unifying person or element, a necessity in a multicultural nation-state. This stagnation caused by has led to corruption within the nation, alongside with the massive population boom that was bound to happen after western California was civilized and the old technology reintroduced as indicated by Fallout 2 and New Vegas causing a massive increase in quality of life over a short period, is what is pushing the NCR outward. Domestic issues are too complex and contentious, but expansion of NCR territory is universally supported by all citizens, from sharecroppers to brahmin barons, for obvious reasons. This, alongside the sense of superiority NCR citizens feel when comparing themselves to noncitizen wastelanders, explains why Kimball was able to become President of the NCR in a landslide as a war hero of the NCR. He beat back those dirty tribals and opened up the Mojave to his people for its inevitable annexation.

This is why he's managed to last significantly longer than the two post-Tandi presidents despite his abject failure in the Mojave. The citizen body wants the Mojave and Vegas. The NCR needs Vegas, it needs another Tandi in Kimball, it needs to face outward, otherwise it will tear itself apart with factionalism and corruption inherent to a multicultural society being held together by people blind to the inherent disadvantages of a heterogenous society.

This is also why Caesar is right. And I think a majority-white Legion would not only be funny but it would contribute to their image as an antithesis to the NCR. Essentially, most of the surviving population in what would be Legion territory would be descended from white Anglo-Americans who moved to the southwest because, like in our own world, became a major hub for government and military research and development. These important government employees would naturally get top priority in the vaults, meaning they would make up the bulk of postwar Americans who were healthy and capable enough to survive more than a few generations, even if they inevitably went tribal.

So essentially Caesar controls a massive army of culturally and genetically similar people, free from both the difficulties of a heterogenous, individualist society as well as the more obvious problems of interbreeding with generations of radiation in their DNA causing god knows how many defects.

TL;DR from my autistic fanfic: Fallout could be more if it wasn't post-racial and also wasn't owned by Bethesda. Ghouls being a substitute for blacks doesn't count

Well, given that Tandi doesn't look very Indian either, could get well be the explanation for Dhatri looking like that, with the only Indian thing left in him is his surname. After all, how many Brits have French originated surnames but look distinctly British?

You know, in retrospect, I am legit surprised there were no references or cheeky references to Zetans in Starfield. You'd think that a space setting would at least have an easter egg related to Fallout's aliens, right?

"Oh it wouldnt fit the alien-less NASApunk style!"

First off, fuck off, stop making excuses
Second off, a simple easter egg wouldnt harm the literal whatever that is Starfield's extremely bland artistic style
Third off, Bethesda is really proud of the Zetans by making them far more frequent and expanded on F76, iirc. So the fact they likely didnt even consider at least toying with them having an appearance in Starfield absolutely telling.
Jack me off, how sad it is that Starfield is so bland and boring that Im unironically wishing for dumb easter eggs, and related to the ZETANS no less.
Fifth off, I just need to reaffirm how Starfield is one of the most boring and unengaging settings in general, not even just space related ones, that I have ever seen. It takes a special type of bad writing to make the wonderous and horrifying vast unknown of space become just absolutely boring, unironically throwing "Isnt it like that IRL?" as an actual cope/excuse, as if Bethesda games are known for their realism.
"Its called a Sextant, Eddy" off, I can only accept Bethesda not being shut down yet both because of TES 6 and because they are too big of a household name to be shutdown without causing intense negative PR amongs normies/tourists and, worst of all to Microsoft, bad reaction from the feared stockholders. So Todd Howard gets to keep his job by just exploiting the fact he is far too recognizable to get rid off and, consequently, he gets to get away with having an army of Yes Men who too want the stability while he gets to enjoy keeping his buddies like Emil around as well.

If it this all annoys you, then congrats, you actually care about the gaming medium. And it wouldnt surprise me if Gen Alpha starts to drift away from gaming and Gen Beta even further because the appeal just isnt there anymore.

I was thinking today about the inevitable New Vegas remaster that Bethesda will do within the next decade.
Why would they even attempt to remaster New Vegas when they still have 3 and 4 to re-releases ? Or Skyrim ? Or they might go complete apeshit and do Morrowind or Daggerfall ? Since Starfield was at best a middling failure and nobody knows when TES 6 will actually drop something in between makes sense. My bet would be Fallout 3 due to a lot of nostalgia and Bethesda still having a decent reputation surrounding its release.

New Vegas remaster
They'd have to beat the 4NV team to it (not an impossibility but 'next decade' is a lot of time). A Fo3 remaster also has to beat TTW, even in its gay and retarded current state, as well as Capital Wasteland which is considerably further along in comparison to 4NV.
In short, it's probably not happening minus an Oblivion-style UE5 wrapper which would just funnel any actual interest to the modded options since they have to provide untampered files- AND because said UE5 wrapper had hardcoded anti-midrange settings.
Not including the Soulless, who don't matter and don't actually buy these products more than once in their lifetime- Bethesda already gave them Skyrim AE and Reblivion (and Fallout 4 AE Update, i guess), so the pickings of doing it again are slim.
All those updates really got me thinking on whether they were intentional to try and hamstring the modding community long enough for the infinijeets to shit out a UE5master or something. Probably just Retardation On The Level Of Malice though.

Don't forget, they will likely cut content for no particular reason. Problematic dialogue will be the first to be cut. And branching paths for completing quests will be trimmed down considerably so the nu-Fallout fans don't hurt their brains while trying to navigate the quest lines.
