Fallout series

Huh...this feels familiar...

So it was retarded when Paul Anderson did it but when Amazon does it, it is subversive and genius*

*According to the usual suspects. You know the ones.

Despite the vocal minority claiming otherwise, the Jovovich movies were actually good. They were fun and action-packed for your average viewer, but they had complex themes and influential ideas if you looked deeper. Every movie that involves the existential implications of cloning borrows from Resident Evil: Retribution, for example. Unfortunately, the smear campaign is continuing even today, with Suzi Hunter's trannies picking on anyone who thinks the movies are even remotely good. Thankfully the box office numbers speak louder than a few Twitter troons.

picking on anyone who thinks the movies are even remotely good
I thought the first movie was good for what it was, with a few cool setpieces, well-made props and effects.

The remaining movies get progressively worse and feel like you're watching a fanfic. I wanted to see the actual RE characters in a live-action adaptation (their casting for Jill was fucking perfect), not the whacky adventures of a Mary Sue wearing RE as a skinsuit.

Capcom had restrictions on what their brand characters could do in the movies. They cannot be shown naked, they cannot have sex, they cannot be killed, etc. That's why Paul isn't allowed to say that Chris died in the Arcadia attack, or that most of the game characters died in the White House battle. That's why Claire has an implied boyfriend, but only implied because all RE characters have to be virgins, just like Korean idols. That's why none of the Capcom characters were allowed to flirt with Alice even though there was clear potential for sapphic chemistry.

Paul W. S. Anderson wanted to have as much freedom with the plot as he could, so he had to add original characters. He wanted to capture the feel of Resident Evil without cheaply reusing its characters, something he talked about in the DVD commentary to the movie. That's why he had to invent the character of Alice. Not only did Alice give the movies their unique identity, but she also allowed the movies to have meaningful themes and plot developments, instead of "OMG LEON AND ADA ARE FLIRTING AND SAVING TEH WORLD AGAIN".

Alice constantly fails to save herself and the survivors around her. Alice gets betrayed. Alice can't trust anybody except her galpal Claire. Alice gets beaten into a pulp. Alice gets her fingers sliced off. Alice is not even Alice, she is just one of the many soulless clones. The entire world was reduced to 4000 people and Alice couldn't do anything to prevent it. On the other hand, Jill would never be allowed to fail or get affected by her experiences. Jill was mind-controlled and possibly raped by Wesker for years? No biggie. Alice is the only RE character who isn't a Mary Sue. She goes through many ordeals that daddy Capcom would never allow Claire and Jill to go through.

A movie with only the game characters would suck, as we saw with Welcome to Raccoon City and the CGI movies.

These movies are also responsible for one of my favorite RedLetterMedia clips.

I know bait when i see it and this is top tier bait lol

idk if flexing the fact those movies got saved by box office outside of north America and none scored higher than 38% on RT and 49 on metacritic is a good defense but you do you on your revision quest.

Not even that, a movie that just tries to retell a game storyline would suck. The game storylines work because there is a balance between story and gameplay and we care about the story because the game is fun and we wanna reach the end, that balance is lost in a film/tv show adaption where there is no gameplay. I am excited to see this new movie purely because its selling itself as being set in the resident evil universe but its not gonna hit me over the head with references and "character you know" popping up all the time.
Watched the series. It's meh.

I just want to know why the fuck Todd got an Enclave fetish, how many times it will spawn out of thin air?
The horrible fate of an Enclave fan, you love them and wanna see them return but you also know why they can't and know every time they do its gonna suck shit. idk why they don't just make a new faction that serves the same function as the enclave but is original and has an actual reason to exist
