Fallout series

I wouldn't put it past Bethesda to feel like fallout needs to have multiplayer, even if they promised that years ago. Look at the direction they are taking this series, the changes from 3 to 4, cut out RPG mechanics and dialogue options, focus on combat and that settlement thing, it seems like they are going for an all new audience. Nothings confirmed yet and it might be horseshit, but it's still plausible. If it is a single player RPG, I hope they don't fuck it up as badly as they did 4.

Except Bethesda made a big ass song and dance about it back in December at The Games Awards with the tongue in cheek #saveplayer1 ad campaign. I can totally see a multiplayer game coming from one of their other studios. Indeed Rage 2 is the perfect fit for a multiplayer or online element (RAGE had a so so multiplayer but it was there) but even then the devs were whining about how much Rage's multiplayer was shoehorned in and sucked like hell.

Thing is, we don't really know what sort of online elements will be in 76, or how extensive they will be. It could be co-op like Borderlands, some sort of base management like MGSV's Mother Base, or a weird MMO hybrid like Destiny and The Division.

The only thing we can do is wait until June 10th to see what sort of game Fallout 76 will be.

I mean, small party co-op wouldn't be the WORST thing in a Bethesda Sandbox RPG but yeah I'd rather not have it become a fucking MMO or something.

That said, I was playing Conan Exiles a week or two ago on a private server with a few friends and I was lamenting the weaker parts of the game (combat is kind of a joke, dungeons are dumb) and was thinking that it'd be nice if a AAA survival game came out that wasn't a complete cash grab by CEOs that thought that their audience was idiots (Metal Gear Survive, looking at you). Fallout wouldn't be the worst fit for such a game by a long shot.

Ehh, I guess I'm kind of torn. So I'll wait for more information. Still, nice to see Bethesda confirming a game that isn't a port or a slight remaster.

On the other hand, maybe there will be some more diverse music judging from the John Denver song in the trailer. I find it hard to believe that people listened to nothing but 50's music until 2077.

I think either Fallout 1 or 2 implied things like rock and roll and heavy metal existed in the fallout universe, but it never really took off like it did irl, with the heavy hand of Fallout's 50's Americana and extreme McCarthyism keeping things mostly static and choking out any kind of new cultural movements before they could take off. If you listened to anything different than the 40's and 50's big band, swing, and early rock music, then you might be a DIRTY COMMIE.

Know what? That is actually a change I'd be ok with. Similar to the amusing nods in Bioshock Infinite. They're already paying for the damn songs anyway, so why not make some covers of more modern songs? I know we all like our spurs which jingle, jangle, jingle but...

Ya know, like:

Or heck, go grab some tracks from The Baseballs who did a lot of 50s/60s style covers.

There should be riots if Bethesda tries to make the Fallout version of Destiny.
Yeah, I doubt they would take it that far, I was just using an example.

I'm guessing that they'll be somewhat "incremental" with the online components while maintaining the core of the Fallout games. They have a large fanbase, they don't want to alienate them with drastic changes.

They're already pissing off a lot of fans just with their "online RPG" component alone.

But those fans are still going to want a Fallout game. If I was one of the people working on mods like Frontier and Miami, I'd be drooling over my Patreon account.

If Emil Pagliarulo is still lead writer the plot is going to be a god damn mess. I'm not getting excited until he's confirmed stuck in the Radiant Quest Scripting Basement.

The entire eternal 50s thing is a Bethesdaism. Fallout's original conceit is that the world basically turned out exactly like the 50s sci-fi vision of the future, complete with improbable sentient robots but without the imagination to conceive electronics miniaturisation or semiconductors. It's less about trilbies and single breasted suits, more about jumpsuits and shiny chrome. Probably all the music native to the fallout universe should be performed on the Theremin.

Is anyone else disappointed it's gonna be another vault dweller game? I find they never do anything interesting with vaults besides turning them into dungeons or starting zones. A better argument would be asking why nobody in the wasteland is creating new music. I'm not counting Redeye from Nuka-World. That shit was terrible and I was hoping I'd get a mission to kill him.

My guess is they are trying something like New Vegas where they are just making a new wasteland and using the assets they already have for Fallout 4 and calling it something other then Fallout 5 since its not gonna be a new engine. I doubt its gonna be anything outside of their comfort zone like a Rust clone, MMO, lootfest, or whatever people are afraid of. They know they are going to make money if they don't rock the boat.

I imagine most new music coming out of the wasteland would be Redeye caliber.

A modder might be able to help with that.

Bethseda stuck him in his own cell area you can't reach normally because the Creation Engine and it's predecessors can't handle complex voiced dialogue not coming from an actual scripted NPC all that well, so they made an NPC for him and assigned all his dialogue to it.

If you are moderately proficient in the Creation Kit you could relocate him somewhere in the world where you can actually kill him and just add a "If Redeye is dead, Raider Radio is silent".

Haven't dug through the files, but if his VA didn't record any generic combat lines, it should default to one of the default voice tracks for that anyway, so killing him would be like shooting any other Raider.

And it would even be immersive if no one gave a shit if he died, he's a Raider, and they tend to hate each other even if they have to team up.

Yeah, they have too much of a good thing going on with Fallout to just completely turn it on its head. I think they're doing this one to tide fans over till their next big game while experimenting a little to see if the new systems are worth pursuing in the future.

If it goes well, they'll expand on those features for The Elder Scrolls VI or Fallout 5. If it doesn't, they'll excuse it as an experimental spinoff and proceed without those features.

Literally the only source I've seen for the claim that it's a multiplayer/mmo title is some faggot at Kotaku and I'm taking it with a huge grain of salt because Kotaku is terrible at predicting shit.

Magnolia had five original songs which give a hint as to what the music of the wasteland could be like.

Linda Carter wrote and sang all of them too.

Y'also had the Lonesome Drifter in F:NV.

Gee I wonder what's missing here....
In fairness, they did leak a lot of info about Fallout 4 years before it was announced, such as the player character, the intro dialogue, and Preston Garvey. Of course, that stunt ended with them getting blacklisted by Bethesda, so who knows how accurate their info about 76 is, especially given how vague it is.
