I like it, got tankie vibes at first but tankies would say capitalism not consumerism.saw this image in a Fallout meme account twitter thread, curious what people here think

The wasteland is cool, though, and the series at its best lets you draw your own conclusions. Really, the biggest theme you take from it is what it says upfront: war never changes (but men do). There's nothing wrong with enjoying the thematic elements, or the worldbuilding elements, or the gameplay elements, or the post-apocalyptic elements. People enjoy different parts of media, and that's normal.saw this image in a Fallout meme account twitter thread, curious what people here think

I'm not even sure where the fuck they're getting the shit about consumerism and American "exceptionalism" being bad from. Same thing with Classism. The wasteland is cool, though, and the series at its best lets you draw your own conclusions. I don't know what they're referring to in terms of "racism is bad", outside of humans hating ghouls and the Enclave hating irradiated humans. Fallout is mostly post-racial (and seemingly was before the war too), unless I'm not remembering something from the games I haven't played in awhile.
Nah, I actually see those. The world ran out of resources before the Great War because of over-consumption and from what I remember America was basically near-fascist before the war started, like forcefully integrating Canada and executing dissidents. Classism comes in when you look at Freeside vs the Strip and the Brahmin barons in the NCR. However, the series is far more nuanced about these issues than that image would suggest. For instance, Freeside genuinely is a shithole that's filled with complete assholes, and from what I remember the Followers get overwhelmed if you introduce anarchy to Freeside. The game does also make the point that patriotism can be a positive, and Lonesome Road is all about finding a symbol to put your faith in. For all its corruption, the NCR is comparatively much better than pre-war America. It's more like how America is now.I'm not even sure where the fuck they're getting the shit about consumerism and American "exceptionalism" being bad from. Same thing with Classism.

The insinuation that saying racism/war is bad is something you can only notice if you ignore the roleplaying aspects of the game is a bit dumb. What is your issue with the image? These ideas permeate every aspect of the games. From the world, to the story and to the characters.
In Fallout 2 you're literally fighting against a parody of the Bush government and Heinlein's Starship Troopers.
That isn't really technically consumerism, though. Consumerism implies that they care more about using the resources found worldwide to sell to people like in Pepsi ads or something. What happens in the Fallout universe is more about nationalistic greed. If it is about consumerism, it's a criticism of a very extreme type of it.Nah, I actually see those. I found it extremely difficult to take the Enclave seriously, and I don't know if that was intentional or not. Also, they made them far too likable. What is your issue with the image? These ideas permeate every aspect of the games. From the world, to the story and to the characters.

I can get the game has themes and narratives but I just find it funny it tries to be deeper with war when it was pretty much just a backstory that got some DLC and explanation as to why you had the Wasteland. Also, everyone used all the oil, even those dirty commies. Pretty much led to the EU breaking down and all the Europeans invading the Middle East for oil. Also the wasteland itself is a cool setting to play through in seeing how one could have their character last before dying to something in the middle of nowhere.saw this image in a Fallout meme account twitter thread, curious what people here think

Not even getting into America being near-fascist, the rest of the world went to hell, what with Europe invading the Middle East while China and the US fought for whatever oil was left, with the Chinese giving America the excuse to annex Canada.Nah, I actually see those. With the image being a response to Fallout 76, one can only imagine people taking it seriously in using it as a statement to Fallout 76 when most gamers that had interest in the game just wanted to have fun until they realized the game truly was shit and Todd's lies couldn't save it.The image was created as a response to Fallout 76, where dropping nukes as though it were nothing was marketed as a gimmick and where it was all about the flashy skins.
While that sounds cool as shit Bethesda doesn't like sticking away from formulas, so no, we won't. I'll file that idea in my list of super cool game ideas I'll make if I ever become a millionaire though, but it's unlikely. Will we ever have a fallout game based on Australia? Imagine resisted emus, Tasmanian devils and cassowaries.
Every person in that chain is probably seething that labour got destroyed right now.Might as well post some of the other tweets because it’s stirred up some discussion.

In all seriousness, how would Fallout even be considered leftist? I get the whole exceptionalism Bethesda made use of since 3 and the second game giving you the President of the United States as a major antagonist but beyond all the fluff and such, not many if any of the games made any wing of ideology good beyond one ending in one of the games saying "isolationism was a kick in the nuts" for one faction.Might as well post some of the other tweets because it’s stirred up some discussion.

One may as well just make the "cool wasteland" meme but turn it around to make the people sperging over the themes being of some inherent political wing and the like no better in the tism just because they think that they get why the work was made for or in reference to, they somehow know better than others such as with Fallout and Warhammer 40k. Sometimes, people really do see cool wasteland beyond "war is bad" and knowing that despite how shitty the Imperium is, you got "SPESS MUHREENS."
It's almost like any political themes/messages you might get from the franchise take a backseat to letting the player decide what's best for the world. You know, like a roleplaying game, or something. In all seriousness, how would Fallout even be considered leftist? Considering all the autism people get wrapped in as they try to own libtards and conservatards, one may as well say "the Master is leftist" just because he wanted unity and equality in the form of turning people in super mutants. What may as well make the whole political leaning thing ridiculous is trying to push that shit further beyond what a faction is suppose to be and represent. BOS isn't leaning left or right beyond just wanting to hoard tech and whatever branch it is that responds to outsiders.I mean, in 2 you had a joke where the Vice President saying "I'm not part of the problem, I'm Republican!" With the Chosen One replying, "Like I said, part of the problem."
Of course, this was probably back when the Left wasn't as batshit insane as it is now.
Other than that though yeah, I don't think stuff like stopping a madman from turning people into mutants, committing genocide via a virus, or enslaving people and using them as slaves is inherently an issue that's left or right leaning, it's just being a decent person looking out for your fellow man. If anything, something like the exceptionalism regarding political stances is probably part of what caused the Nuclear War to begin with.
Don't forget that Liberty Prime is a robot that says fuck you by throwing nukes. Even for all the jingoism and such, Liberty Prime is memorable simply for how he cuts a bloody swathe for the brotherhood. It's almost like any political themes/messages you might get from the franchise take a backseat to letting the player decide what's best for the world. You know, like a roleplaying game, or something.
Also everyone knows Liberty Prime and Warhammer are satirical and O-T-T, it's just that no one cares because the former still makes commies seethe unironically and the latter is still fun in how batshit insane it is.
Don't forget: the core of Fallout was also solving the problems in more than one way. Why bother wasting ammo on a final boss when you can talk him down or why bother trying to convince a man to open the door when you could just sneak around and get inside the place he is trying to guard.Wait I'm supposed to be lamenting how bad capitalism and war are while I'm running around turning people into chunky salsa with my alien blaster while looting and eating corpses?
The core of Fallout is about looting as much as possible to amass as many caps as possible to buy as destructive weapons as possible to destroy as many people that get in your way as possible as your force your will on others as much as possible. Just by playing the game it seems like you are guilty of everything you are meant to be against.
I also like how that one person talking about cyberpunk and chuds missing the point about dehumanizing and becoming commodities but declaring the dick chick ad as being to far.
