Most of the talent at Interplay who made the first two Fallouts went over to Obsidian, correct? So technically, Microsoft has all the keys to make old-school-style Fallout games. Bethesda took a little-known series that had 2 good games, one OK game, and one tire fire failure, and turned it into Game of the Year material. No matter how much people say that Bethesda ruined Fallout, from an objective standpoint (ease of play, appeal, profitability, fame) Bethesda was good for Fallout. Even New Vegas right now only has a cult following, whereas Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 both became Game of the Year and got tons of awards left and right. Despite the fact that all three games are riddled with bugs. Even I prefer New Vegas more, but I'd be a fool to say that Fallouts 3 and 4 aren't deserving of praise or love. Fallout 76 is one small stain compared to all the good Bethesda did with Fallout, from making it a viable series once again after the failure that is Brotherhood of Steel, to making the franchise Game of the Year material that fans of other big franchises would seek out due to its fame and accolades.Yeah, I'd rather take Bethesda, warts and all, over Interplay's total mishandling of Fallout in their last years.

Fallout 3 was Game of the Year back in 2009, back when gaming journalism still had a smidge of legitimacy and some genuinely good games like Halo 3 and Mass Effect were competing for the GOTY crown.
Fallout 3 basically became GOTY 2 years after Halo 3 got that award, which is insane considering the amount of hype Halo 3 had. Bethesda took some franchise that had mediocre success in the past and was reduced to irrelevancy in the early 2000s, and made it as big as Halo, Zelda, and Mass Effect in the span of one game.Fallout 3 was fucking revolutionary when it came out and everyone was raving about it except for literally a couple of die hard nerds on NMA, and even though nowadays more people on NMA pretend they always hated it, it was universally praised when it came out, bugs and all.
I see tons of people who bash Fallout 3 & 4 and still managed to play at least a couple of hundred hours of the game in the first place.
And it's not like it had any name recognition whatsoever.
