Fallout: The Frontier - Done, and it's a hilarious shitshow

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I think the Frontier team should actually be commended for resolving to fix the fuckups and not let 7 years go down the shitter.
I also like that they've been listening to the complaints. Very mature of them.

You know what, I'd have a Wild Wasteland explanation. Mad scientist, weather control device. Because why the fuck not? Just some random mad scientist who made it snow because he can.
could also tie it into OWB. Some forgotten project that the scatterbrain think tank forgot all about.

Nexus banned me for being too epic.

While I will commend the Frontier for having a pretty well crafted world for the most part minus a couple of nitpicks, what I'm failing to understand is why is Portland, OR drenched in snow? As a native Oregonian who happens to live near the Portland metro area, I can confirm that it rarely if ever snows here. If it actually does snow in Oregon then the stars have clearly aligned.
They blame it on "nuclear winter"

So you migrated from nexus mods to KF? 🤔

I don't think they will. Sure, the people who wrote all that sex shit and the NCR campaign are going to get the cold shoulder, but the other story writers and the technical team are probably going to get some cred, because one thing they did do well in this mod was take an outdated game engine and add features like vehicle driving. There's enough people who got impressed with all the boom-fiestas and technical stuff that being able to put that in your resume will get you some good attention.
A few people who had as little to do with the mod as a few voice lines or a song wanted their content pulled from the mod. I feel like anyone who worked on the Frontier is gonna be hesitant to put it on their resume.

I can also just play the non ncr bits
The non-NCR bits are at least decent, female Legionary nonwithstanding. Just go with the Crusader campaign then the Legion one.
The questionable stuff is half the fun, otherwise you're just getting a CoD clone written by ten different 18 year olds.
It's like they looked at the NCR and thought they'd make for great CoD protagonists, when the NCR's main struggle is that they're the weakest faction in the wasteland when it comes to man-for-man logistics. (Legion soldiers are better trained than them, Enclave and Brotherhood troops have power armor) I can't see a good CoD game come from that, especially since in CoD, you're just gunning down cannon fodder who aren't as well-trained as you are half the time. Not to mention that Fallout: Frontier has nothing new to add to the CoD formula and they were just ripping off 10 different games at once. Maybe if you got to join the NCR Veteran Rangers, it'd be different, since the Veteran Rangers are the elite force that can give even the Legion's best a run for their money, but that wasn't the case.

Also, the writing is far worse than any CoD game I know. Even Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare have better plots than this crap. Having the NCR exiles desert the NCR because their general didn't want them to fight the Legion in Hoover Dam, only for them to fight the Legion in the North, without any support from the rest of the NCR, was completely fucking retarded. It would have been better if the NCR did send them up there and they were still loyal to it, and that would be the reason why they're fighting, to keep the Northern Legion from marching down south and reinforcing Caesar's forces in the Mojave.

The technical stuff is very impressive, though. I think the technical team are the only people who will want to boast about having placed tanks, space battles, and cars in an engine that wasn't made to support that shit.

Should I be worried about Fallout: Miami?
I don't think so. Maybe, but the devs don't act like SJW twats. It's only a matter of writing a decent story, and not letting your fetishes into the mod. Then they'll outshine Fallout: Frontier for sure.

They're more than happy to let you play as the Enclave, for instance, since the Enclave combat theme plays whenever you fight for or against them:

WHY DID THEY PUT POP CULTURE REFERENCES EVERYWHERE IN DIALOGUE

WHY ARE WE FUCKING A DEATHCLAW

WHY IS THE WRITING SO AGGRESSIVELY SHIT

For the first question: They were trying to follow in the footsteps of the older Fallout games that had pop-culture references. ( https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Fallout_2_cultural_references )

For the second question: they thought they could top Fallout 2 where you can become a king of porn.

For the third question: Most of the writers were horny, edgy idiots who think ripping off all sorts of games is a good thing to do.

The more I think of it, the more the horny Deathclaw actually becomes funny to me since apparently if you fuck it you were SUPPOSED TO (didn't work, was broken) wake up the next day with all of your limbs crippled. That actually does kinda sound like some random ass encounter they might have slapped into 2 if they'd thought of it.

The Thuggyverse ie Outcasts and Remnants, Fusion City Rising, and Project Valk have slutty outfits, sex jokes galore, and tons of pop culture references and people love those mods. The difference is Thuggy is totally open about his mod being goofy lore unfriendly shit and he just wants everyone to have fun. I don't think The Frontier would have had nearly as much blowback if the devs didn't act like snotty pretentious hipsters and shit all over their audience.

That's actually quite true. And really they should have known what to gate behind Wild Wasteland. Like with the Horny Deathclaw. Normally you should just encounter a very tough Deathclaw boss who does bonus damage to limbs and drops a unique Deathclaw Gauntlet when killed. With Wild Wasteland it's the Horny Deathclaw that cripples limbs who also drops a unique Deathclaw Gauntlet if killed.

Then you get the advantage of having it more replayable depending on whether or not you take the Wild Wasteland trait.
Hell, have another trait entirely that you can choose at the start of the mod called Preposterous Portland that unlocks the most insane elements that even Wild Wasteland shouldn't normally cover. That adds even more playability.

It's because they don't play RPGs, they watch 'popular' films and play games like Metal Gear Solid or Death Stranding and think that kind of writing works in an RPGs. They also can't keep their opinions out of their writing and when I say that, they don't write something and let the reader formulate their own opinion on what happened, they have a firm righteous opinion that NCR is bad and needs to be revolted and that the Enclave are evil... which they can absolutely believe, but the ways the Enclave and NCR got there are by believable events that make sense in their respective settings and whether you agree with how they handled those events or not is up to you. But the writers of a typical story in this day and age will portray the events and have characters embody the authors personal opinions and everything that can go wrong will go wrong for the 'bad guys' because the writer wills it. It's hard to put into words, but you can tell when an authors personal view points start leaking through.

They're also creeps IRL and sexually awkward IRL leading to them writing subtle hints to their own personal kinks so they can get a boner while at the same time making their personal kink moments seem perfectly sensible (but usually people feel the opposite). Having someone outwardly licking someone's feet is egregious and people will look at the author like he's a freak, but let's say characters are constantly barefoot all the time for no reason and one girl even makes a comment about how bad her feet smells. Subtle, but really fucking creepy, but to the author that's totally plausible and fine and at the same time he's jerking off.

before i consider installing is the frontier compatible with Caesar's new regime?
