I want to play a good farming simulator on the Switch.

But there are so many. Which would you suggest?

In the past I have played
Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life
Story of Seasons on Wii
Animal Parade on Wii
Harvest Moon A New Beginning

Rune Factory looks interesting. Should I play Rune Factory 4 on the switch or wait for the upcoming installment?
I heard Olive Town and Mineral Town are unfortunately dull and the characters lack personality?

Rune Factory is nice if you want a dungeon crawl with your Harvest Mooning. Can't say much for 4, since the only one I've played was 1 back on the DS.
Stardew Valley is pretty cozy if you're looking for something more like oldschool Harvest Moon, and has multiplayer if you're the kind of madlad that can get friends roped into it.

Depends on how much you want the game to center around farming. My personal favorites were Magical Melody and Mineral Town.

Mineral Town remake didn't play that differently from original, it just looks really cheap and pissed off shippers.
There's also others like Innocent Life.

I would normally put in a rave recommend for you to try My Time at Portia, but the Switch port apparently isn't all that good. It's about 9 versions and a shitton of content behind the PC release and has persistant bugs that never get corrected, according to a couple guys on the Wiki. Wonderful game on PC though.

Having a hack about with Medieval Dynasty at the moment, and it's available on Switch - so far it's pretty good. Not as charming as MTaP or Stardew, but it might scratch your itch.

Edit to agree with others: Olive Town isn't that engaging. It's OK, I guess, but it isn't for me.

Multiplayer Stardew Valley is genuinely one of the most fun experiences I've had in gaming.
well yeah Stardew Valley is a backjob mix of harvest moon and rune factory.
a bit similar to cities skylines, it takes "inspiration" from their source but adds their own stuff too.
So yeah, Rune Factory 4, or @Scarlett Johansson, can wait for Rune Factory 5 which will launch next year.

My time in portia gets deader the more you advance in the game, hopefully they'll find a way to fix that.

Rune Factory is a great series, but I wouldn't really consider it a farm sim game. +1 for Stardew Valley, but I can't speak on the Switch version.

Are any of the indie stardew valley clones on steam/gog any good? All the ones steam keeps recommending look like they just add more crafting/resource tedium and lackluster combat

Sun Haven is really good. It’s got 3 hub-worlds filled with NPCs and cultures that match the worlds, and you get a house + farm plot at each one. It’s also got some classic RPG elements.

It’s coming to Switch so keep an eye out.

Runner up:
Potion Permit - Not really farming per se, but it might scratch that itch. Get it cheap if you can though. It’s not worth full price yet.

Try harder.

Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is coming out later this year and that looks pretty promising.

I found Grave Keeper to be quite enjoyable. If anything it's an interesting setting/aesthetic. Fixing up the church and giving sermons was satisfying. It's got lots of DLC as well that I've been meaning to try out.

And Stardew will absolutely scratch that farming sim itch. I only ever play it on PC though because I can't live without my aesthetic mods.

I only like Harvest Moon at the moment. But Rune Factory 1-4 is pretty good, except 5 which was hot garbage.

Stardew Valley looks pretty much woke to me, so I'll avoid it for now.

Sun Haven looks interesting, I'll check it out later when I have the cash.
