Favorite NPCs - Minor characters and those of lesser importance

It's kind of an obscure game, but I really liked Emmy Honeywell from The Last Remnant. You get her as kind of a stand-in character after her mother Emma dies in battle. Kind of sucks they didn't give her much of a speaking role though since her trying to fill her mother's shoes made her pretty interesting .

I don't like how they did Emma, it just feels like when they kill off emmy the dev team was like. "OH SHIT WE NEED SOMEONE TO REPLACE HER BECAUSE THE PLAYER COULD HAVE LEVELING HER UP THIS WHOLE TIME." "Ahhh let's just have her look alike daughter with basicly the same name join to replace her , we got our valve out of her mothers death she doesn't need to talk much."

Pretty much https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BackupTwin in action. Replace Twin with daughter.

Lisa: The Painful's got a lot of funny NPCs, but my personal favorite is Horrace Finkle.

This dude's got one of the funniest scenes in the entire game and one of the most entertaining boss battles. It's almost a shame you're forced to kill him.
My favorite part of that flashback is the part where Horrace mistakenly gets his construction diploma because the headmaster mixed up the names. If you keep a sharp eye out you'll notice that the other guy, Morrace, who got screwed out of his diploma is the same guy who runs the makeshift orphanage that you can accidentally burn down earlier in the game. When you burn down the orphanage he'll say it's the "2nd worst day of his life," leaving you wondering what the hell happened on the worst day if watching a bunch of kids burn to death can't top it... until you see him again in this flashback. It's subtle, but also one of my favorite running jokes in this game.

Yeah, they could have done it a lot better. Didn't really make much sense either because the few times she did play a role she was actually interesting. It was a pretty major missed opportunity to take a decision that was likely made for gameplay, and then make it work well in the plot. Kinda seemed too like they may have wanted to do something more with her character but didn't. If you talked to her in any of the cities before Emma's death, she had kind of a sense of humor which was a major contrast from her mom, and she messes with the Rush (the MC) a few times after joining like shoving him during the waterway segment. Honestly, if it were up to me, I'd have made her the MC's romantic interest.

There was this one shop owner in this PS2 JRPG called Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana named Veola. Basically starts off as this almost completely silent emotionless girl, but as you start unlocking alchemy recipes for her shop and start talking with her, she starts opening up to you and wanting to get to know you better over the course of the game, learns how to make bread specifically to give to you, and actively peruses you as a romantic interest even more than the main female character(even subtly putting her down and stuff to the point that they start a rivalry over getting the protagonist), and was also planning to kill herself because she felt guilty about being the only person in her hometown to survive a monster attack until the protagonist got her to open up and be happy again.

And it’s all just side content you can do while improving a shop by unlocking alchemy recipes for items and stuff. I also really liked whenI’d go into the shop and a new cutscene with her would unlock.

This guy and Lord fucking Crump are among my favorites in the Paper Mario games.

Pour one out for poor Lord Crump. He tried so hard and got so far.

I would love to see a Punished Crump redemption arc where he completely obliterates the Mushroom Kingdom.
This is the closest thing he got to an redemption arc.

If I post anybody from FONV that'd be cheating. Pretty sure I already said the FEAR soldiers in another thread, too.
Guess it's time to bust out @It's HK-47 :
Damn it, why can't the movies be this good?

In Persona 4, there's a guy who is scared of cats to a cartoonish degree.
Meow at him and he will freak out. Talk about cats and he will freak out. Take him to meet the cat outside Dojima's house and he'll try to pet it. He runs off after it licks him.

The next day, he asks what to feed the cat then admits he's scared of fish. He asks if any cute fish exist. Give him a cute fish.

The next day, he is covered in scratches from playing with a cat. He's no longer scared. He's obsessed to a cartoonish degree.
This guy does not know moderation.

In Yakuza 0, there is a guy that's always in his underwear and dancing. He's mostly tied to sidestories, but he shows up randomly in the main quests of Kiryu and Majima, specially early on before the bigger conspiracy involving the empty lot blows up. Given the everyday weirdness involved in the series, the fact that he still creeps the protagonists out while not being seen as a big deal got me a ton of stupid laughs at just how absurd it was.

Just the one off the top of my head, I'll make a more lengthy post later.
