Favorite Video Game Character and WHY - Pretty self explanatory

Some of mine were already posted so I'll go with these autists.

Endou Mamoru - I only got into the games in the past few years but he was refreshing for just being an endlessly positive and optimistic character. Very similar to Goku but instead of fighting he's obsessed with soccer.

Vergil - Perfect character to mirror Dante, any scene he's in is great, very fun to play, very fun to fight against as he grows and improves alongside you throughout 3. Completely believes in what he's doing and doesn't compromise.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze - From Assassin's Creed 2/Brotherhood/Revelations: He's cool, funny and fun. Really loved his story from start to finish.

Aeris Gainsborough - From Final Fantasy VII/the Remake trilogy: She's charming, witty, kind, strong, compassionate and insightful. An inspirational character to me. She deserves the world and more.

Luigi Mario - From Super Mario Series: Because I like green more than red and he's funny.

Miles Edgeworth - From the Ace Attorney series: "You're not a clown, you're the entire circus."

Most of my picks have been posted, so I'll contribute three:

Wonder Red (Wonderful 101): memorizes everyone's titles, keeps a team of weirdos and civilian draftees coordinated, and puts the job before any personal hangups, including avenging his dad.

Dingo Egret (Zone of the Enders: Anubis/The Second Runner): in a direct contrast to the first game's whiny kid protagonist, it's refreshing to play a no-nonsense mecha pilot that only got in way over his head. Luckily, he can make Jehuty sing and dance while trying to stay alive long enough to get a real heart and lungs. The final duel against Anubis is still one of my top five final battles.

X (Mega Man X): the second iteration of the Blue Bomber, and the one I grew up with. Believes in Dr. Light's dream of human and robot coexistence, and is perfectly willing to pick up the X-Buster to fight for that peace, even when he's outmatched.

If I had to pick, Eggman. He can be a goofy oaf taking his own silly shit seriously while having a blast, or he can be genuinely menacing because at the end of the day, he is an evil super genius. Wanting to turn everyone into robots so you can rule over them is stupid and fun.

Both his classic and modern designs are also really fantastic examples of how to make a characters design simple, but iconic. Slap a long moustache on an oval, and you're probably subconsiously thinking "Eggman", few characters are able to pull that off so efficiently.

The Gman

The Gman has like 30 minutes of dialogue across all the Half life games and yet remains one of the most iconic characters in gaming, I think he's one of the very few characters in media that really manages to sell you the idea that what you're seeing isn't anything close to a human, the way he speaks makes it seem as if he isn't even used to having lungs or speaking any language at all, then you have the fact that he is essentially a god, seemingly omnipresent across both space and time and yet, even he has something above him, his "employers" who force him to abide by certain rules and limitations.

Another thing I like is that he isn't some emotionless eldritch robot that's here just to give exposition, he does have a personality and even a small sense of humour, he chuckles when he mentions the Vortigaunts as being Gordon's friends, during his conversation with Alyx he subtly mocks Freeman as being incapable of fulfilling the tasks assigned to him and a few more bits. Besides those moments the only time the Gman shows an emotion that isn't slight amusement is when the Vortigaunts cockblock him from taking Gordon back into the shadow realm, when the first one appears he just smirks at him but when the rest of the gang show up he retorts with a threat.

Having said that, the Gman will now forever be associated with Skibidi Toilet which makes me wish for a real life resonance cascade.

I have never played a Guilty Gear but I'd like to give Sol Badguy a shout-out because Japan paying homage to white culture tends to result in some pretty special stuff 😎

I'm surprised I didn't list him too, particularly Wind Waker's iteration of him. He's so expressive, he has more character and personality than most characters and he's a fucking silent protagonist. That's crazy. Plus of course his iconic design.

Few more of my favorites:

Bass (Mega Man Battle Network), he's got the most badass design in the entire franchise. It's a shame he didn't get his own spinoff aside from Mega Man & Bass (and the WonderSwan one that kinda sucks).

Auron (Final Fantasy X): This glorious bastard deserves to be in FFX-3 if it ever happens. I can quote his epic speech during the fight against Yunalesca, unmatched FF character.

Atri (Atri: My Dear Moments): Extremely pleasant character, very funny. Has an actually interesting background and story, the way it's revealed gives you whiplash (liking her to disliking her, then liking her even more) but in a good way, that's the best way I can describe it.

I have a soft spot for player characters turning into npcs in the next game over, making you realize how much they achieved and how powerful they were. "Of course I beat Ganon, I grinded a bunch of items and beat some bosses". Imagine listening to an NPC doing that. Playing a random guy in a game and seeing that flaming volcano in the distance and hearing "Oh yeah he beat that guy too".

It's mostly seen in Borderlands but the writing there ain't all that good. I think the most striking such case lately has been seeing Cassandra from AC Odyssey in Valhalla afterwards. She feels so confident and all-knowing as one would with eternal life. She killed 'literal' mythological creatures and yet all she does talking to Eivor is being all "Heh, guess I've been around".

It's more of a trope than a character in particular I guess. Sadly I've never attached much to characters which is why I find it hard to get into some games like street fighter. "I like that character so much I'll learn their dogshit mechanics just to play them" ain't me.

Aeris Gainsborough - From Final Fantasy VII/the Remake trilogy: She's charming, witty, kind, strong, compassionate and insightful. An inspirational character to me. She deserves the world and more.

Aeris is a great character for sure. For me Estelle Bright from the Trails series is my favourite female character and I'd describe her the same way ^

For my male character, I would probably say my fav is Revolver Ocelot from MGS. What a rollercoaster of a character

The Grammeowster chef in Monster Hunter Worlds Iceborne DLC. Babushka cat's pot roast kept my hunter nourished through many a hunts.

Honorable mention: Serious Sam, the Croatian Duke Nukem. I love him because despite having two remaining brain cells competing for bronze, he gets shit done. Occasionally he's even funny.
