Favourite "Old Internet" stuff - Let's reminisce about the Wild West days

This isn't THAT old, but did anybody else enjoy i-mockery.com? Thankfully the site is still around although it is pretty much frozen in time now. That site (and a preloaded version of NesterDC for the Dreamcast) first introduced me to the ROM hacks scene. Like the real ROM hacks; Super KKK Bros, Trans Tramps, Lesbian Tennis, Donner Party, etc.. Also the Comics section is gold. Actually, there is so much great comedy on that site that it hurts my brain to think about modern web now. *sigh*
RoG hasn't updated since his wife committed suicide a few years ago and probably won't since he apparently has an inability to move on from it. I think I remember him saying he'll continue to host I-Mock until he doesn't but not to expect new content.

I used to love the Mini Mocks and how they'd have a Halloween event every year. I've been going onto that site since the '00s.

Pet sim sites, like Neopets, Wajas, Mweor, Gryffs...
They’re still around! Unfortunately, they’re all flooded with trannies and suchlike. Some modern examples are Lioden, Wolvden, and the fuckload of successors to Neopets that I can’t name, but again… 101% tumblr and trannies. :(

When the original site owner of Mweor was demonized for not throwing in LGBT pride items I left.

A lot of my memories involving the era of 2000-2015 Internet involve YouTube.

Specifically, Jogwheel's ""Is It a Good Idea to Microwave This?" and the "Will It Blend?" series.

I also remember the slapfights on YouTube like the threeway between WattageCat, PeppermintPatti, and PixelBee. If I recall correctly, there was a fat Australian who made a video calls "PixelBee fails it" in which he heartily enjoyed potato chips while insulting her. Found it:

Many jackwagons were upset by WattageCat's crazy shenanigans as a response to a video in which PeppermintPatti reads a story about her homemade bears not being taken in by the Ronald McDonald House charity because she's a raging queer - her tearful retelling of the story is set to "The Rose." She has since deleted her YouTube account, but there's a copy of this absolute gem of a video floating around on YouTube. Here are some of the aforementioned jackwagons:

- lol, black calling trolling a hate crime and this gem of a quote: "Discrimination based on sexuality is ten times worse than rape."
- I think this guy was, as the Brits call it, "taking the piss." You can see him laugh.

There was a NewGrounds user I remember particularly well - JeremyLokken - who made an animation about John Kerry's adventures in Vietnam as well as a game about "Saved by the Bell" characters who traded sexual favors for cash.

I used to make pixel art and distribute the pixel art on DeviantArt, and I loved the icons available on LiveJournal.

This YTMND perfectly encapsulates the era of the internet I am most nostalgic for... every now and then I remember it and am pleased YTMND still exists. Still, I should probably download the song since you never know and it probably exists no where else. It's crazy to remember we lived through the time when the internet was revered as some special thing that was a bit niche you had to be in the know of the ins and outs of to get the most out of it and not solely a device every person ever is on for 80% of the day they take for granted and controlled tightly by governments and corporations for advertising and propaganda.

I miss Encyclopedia Dramatica.
I got into it around '04-'05, which lead me to 4chan and ultimately here. For better or worse, the discovery of that site was a life defining moment.
Yeah, it's still around (.online) but numerous cases of mismanagement have lead to the loss of a lot of info and pictures. I've considered going back and helping rebuild but I have significantly more faith that no matter what happens, the data hosted here will live on.

The Picard Song is still my favorite YTMND variant. Thanks for that trip down memory lane when the internet was still wonderful.

I just loved the old time 4chan raid wikis there. No destruction lets just close the pool. I haven't visisted it on its new domain though.

Ha, fuck man, I haven't thought about that in so long. I remember printing out flyers and posting them at my local pool during one of those events.
There was always life ruination stuff going on but we definitely had light hearted moments too. Being educated early on just how dangerous being stupid on the Internet can be was a very positive thing in my experience, especially after seeing one of my friends earn an ED article.
Great times lol.

Fan shrines and sites
Those, like forums, got killed by facebook and what still remained got killed by wikis and the godawful bullshit that is fandom.
I miss flashtub...
Another thing I miss about pre-normified internet was that it truly felt like a divider between the real world and the digital one.
Tell me about it, we're living in a reverse-lain situation where is the real world that shitted up the internet.
and a few other areas on the 'Net
Share them, another of my old forums just kicked the bucket...
After binging so much old Newgrounds content in the past few days I can't help but wonder - do any of you think there'll ever be another place out there where that sort of humor can thrive (apart from the Farms)? Or are we too far gone for something like that to ever return?
Nah, newgrounds was itself a result of 90's edgy humor and that's gone too.

We're back to the hays code and movie censors era, except instead of church ladies its gendershit wackos now.
Picking up girls on ICQ in its early days.
Given the age of the average tranny odds are those "girls" were actually dudes.

Then again that was the running joke back then, except the guys doing it were more like "haha I totally tricked you bro!" instead of "Um ackchully I'm a real girl!".
RoG hasn't updated since his wife committed suicide a few years ago
Did he said why?
I just started rewatching and binging old episodes of Neurotically Yours aka Foamy the Squirrel.
I see the dude is still doing it, tho be bent the knee and gave up on the bigtiddygoth girl style.

Frankly I was never a fan, and even back then it was an obvious thirstrap

I miss when "bullying" was just called "flaming" and people were able to separate the internet from real life and not get a big dick over getting called mean words.

I miss online freedom of speech which is rapidly dying out everywhere and the old days of minimal governmental control. I miss when people expressed themselves freely everywhere.

The Internet is the perfect microcosm of how humanity can take a beautiful chaotic system and just absolutely fucking ruin it. In 25 or 50 years if Carrington 2.0 hasn't happened yet and reset society to 1895 this whole place is going to be a cyberdystopia.

You know after taking a break while the Farms was banished to the Tor Zone I actually decided to do a little digging during moments where I wasn't touching grass. We all know the old internet has gone out for a pack of smokes and some milk and it's not coming back, and dooming about it isn't going to help. The only way to bring that feeling back is by going out and bringing it back for yourself, lads. Linux and frontends have been a godsend for me, and being able to view shit without trannies popping up constantly is satisfying as fuck.
