Favourite "Old Internet" stuff - Let's reminisce about the Wild West days

Oh shit, I wish i had an angel, i did a kickass Advent Children one with that one.There was also inuyasha with memories from Within Temptation, i probably did do something with naruto and Galneryus or Stratovarious, i don't remember, i did something with Final Fantasy FMVs and HIM.

The Evangelion ones were Blind from korn and Mein herz brent, probably the magnus opus of my Movie Maker career, those were the ones i was super proud about and when i discovered what youtube was i uploaded them, then got like 10 views, got super depressed about it, then i quit AMVs.

No doubt, there must be thousands for every gay ass melodic metal song from that era. Its like typing "your name" plus " the hedhehog" on deviantart. Surely, you will find something. It was the style at the time.

Power metal and chinese cartoons is the stuff that consumed my life back then. It probably did irreversible damage and ruined me forever.

And who could forget another classic banger from WT

We used to play "your name the hedgehog" so much at school. Winning the game involved how many recolours you could count within the space of a minute and the one name that had the most was declared the winner.

Does anybody else here remember NC Comix? It was considered to be the first sprite comic on the internet and it's the best example I can think of that shows off how simple and crappy the internet's tastes were at the time. Most of the comics have been miraculously archived but they've aged about as well as spoiled milk left out in the Sahara desert.

Fatchicksinpartyhats.com was hilarious. It was just some Mexican teenager who find pictures of fat people and make fun of them in broken English.
It was written by Seanbaby.

There are so many old webcomics I half-remember fondly, but I'm afraid to look them up and find a monument to troonery.

I was heavily into Revolutionary Girl Utena for a lot of years. My all time favourite AMV was done to 'All The Things She Said'. As you might imagine, there were a shitton of Utena AMVs to that song, but my favourite was the original and the best. I'll never forget the day I logged onto YT and the maker had deleted her entire account. I was devastated. I tore the internet apart looking for a surviving copy, to absolutely no avail. Then it occurred to me one day that I might have saved it to my old, dead computer. A crash course in removing hard drives and enclosing them ensured. After that, another crash course in basic data retrieval. Eventually, I did find it, and miraculously, it wasn't even corrupted. I've got that fucker saved to three different external drives. It must be at least twenty years old by now. I still love it. No idea who made the thing.

My second favourite AMV of all time was Hellsing set to 'Mitternacht'. I thought it too had been deleted, but it turns out that it was just buried under all the other Hellsing 'Mitternact' AMVs. I actually found the thing this time. Now that all those other 'Mitternact' AMVs are in the world it's taken the shine off of it, but it's still good.

Extremely elaborate forum signatures filled to the brim with song lyrics and random links. They got me interesting in learning HTML and photoshop back in the day.

Something I don’t necessarily miss but feels like a relic of the old internet was watching anime in parts on youtube before it was super accessible online.

There was a time back in the 00s where I wished anime was more mainstream and that bigger networks would bring more anime. I was young, naive and stupid and i deeply regret that and having my wish come true turned out to be a nightmare.

Now every normie and his dog watches anime and it's been commodified and reduced to the lowest minimum denominator by monopolistic companies (namely Crunchyroll and Netflix) who have control not over what they bring but also over my overall experience by way of translation.

I find myself missing diving in obscure servers to find good stuff fansubs, the quality of which ranged from good to hilariously bad. They all shared a passion and a selfless commitment that I find cozy as compared to the souless, ESG pumped coldness of corporate media, copyright violations notwithstanding.

I actually ended up killing one of my computers because I used one of those old Youtube video downloader sites to collect the entirety of Digimon Adventure and 02 episodes in parts. The poor machine basically had the computer equivalent of a heart attack and shut itself off and I never got it to turn back on again.

Golden Time AMV;

Also, Sims AMV’s used to be popular;

Sounds like you killed the motherboard

I occasionally find myself thinking of these times and I miss the internet like you wouldn't believe. Often I remember this particular forum about teenage things I came across when I was 9-10yo. It was pretty much an online space for teenagers to discuss everything and it was full of "older" people too, who would always give great advice. I recall sharing my first super-duper serious crush I had on a girl from my school and there was this older(at least that's what a 20-ish yo girl seemed to me when I was 11 or 12) who helped me get my little emotions straightened out. I also vividly remember a user with nickname SWASTIKA and Hitler pfp who told me how to better socialize and make friends in the new school.
I was on that forum for years up until it shut down. Sometimes I really wish there was a way I could thank these people now, almost 18 years later, for how helpful, understanding and kind they were to a random confused kiddo.
There were no trannies trying to suck me in a cult. No degenerates trying to meddle my youthful psyche. No middle-aged pedos inviting me over. Just a bunch of good people.
Kids nowadays have it rough on the internet. The best they can get is discord and reddit and everybody knows the types of men lurking, "helping" there.

Are you the kid from JoJo Rabbit?

I have no idea what this is but it sounds like something weebs say

Jojo Rabbit is a 2019 comedy-drama film written and directed by Taika Waititi, adapted from Christine Leunens's 2008 book Caging Skies. Roman Griffin Davis portrays the title character, Johannes "Jojo" Betzler, a ten-year-old Hitler Youth member who finds out that his mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. He must then question his beliefs while dealing with the intervention of his imaginary friend (Waititi), a fanciful version of Adolf Hitler with a comedic stance on the politics of the war. The film also stars Sam Rockwell, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, and Alfie Allen.
