Favourite "Old Internet" stuff - Let's reminisce about the Wild West days

Anybody here have an account on Trollz.com? I used to watch the cartoon on TV, and it had an extremely catchy theme song.

Hair thing ✅
Pink thing ✅
Tech-teen fantasy ✅

I was into Trollz for a little bit, discovered it through a personality quiz about which girl you were in a magazine (I got Onyx). Don't think I watched the show at all but I remember dabbling on the website. I liked the gemstone motif.

Was thinking about the old Yahoo Fight rooms back in the day. People just getting on shitty mics screaming at each other in front of people while I played pool on the side.

Not much footage of them but here is a yt vid on them.

This is gonna sound odd but I don't really miss a lot of the old internet. The aesthetic and functionality of the old net just kind of sucked dick, which isn't to say the aesthetics are any better these days, but there are a lot of things on the internet now that I wouldn't give up for the old.
What I do miss from the olden days is the lack of corporatization, censorship, and advertiser-cucking. Back when the capital I Internet was an untouched, virgin series of tubes as opposed to the dystopian hellscape of social bubbles that it is now.

I would give a thousand disgusting, overwrought soyjacks for the simple elegance of the trollface.
ads

I miss not seeing an ad every few seconds while trying to read, post, research, etc. and I miss the utter lack of paywalls for my work-related content. nerds in my field would just upload every paper they found to IRC. we had an entire place full of studies and research, all free.

now you need to be on the clock, logged in, to access anything.

i miss how most people were normal-ish and the degenerates would get laughed off the face of the earth, it used to be super easy to make friends but now it feels like a roulette, and a lot of people filter themselves out by putting so much insane shit on their profiles, like who the hell brags about having multiple mental ilnesses? WHY WOULD YOU PUT THAT ON YOUR PROFILE

i feel like most people on the internet have no patience at all now, so they do this ghosting, slow fading, bread crumbing, whatever garbage if you dont give them your attention for longer than 5 seconds, or too much attention somehow

also i swear a lot of people have zero morality left at all and if you become friends with the wrong person, you risk of associating yourself or hell surrounding yourself with SO MANY WEIRDOS

im just tired, i just want to go nag my friends and talk about stupid stuff and play random korean free to play games (war rock, combat arms, perfect world), they were complete garbage but, it was just a different kind of fun

now most people freak out if they dont play genshin impact for 30 minutes a day, fomo this, fomo that, like who cares its just a number nigga, why you freaking out so much over a jpeg, i dont even

also so many multiplayer games are obsessed with this ranked competitive garbage like, everybody is super serious and if you try to communicate, even in a text chat everyone looks at you like you are insane for trying to have a good time and for not trying your hardest to win like your life depends on it, even co op games like helldivers 2 are so obsessed with this garbage, did nobody learn anything from left 4 dead 2 at all? is a 10+ year old game seriously more fun?

i just dont get it at all, it makes me sad, maybe the weirdos did a better job at hiding themselves or something but i dont remember things being this god awful, its a bit of a nightmare right now, i get traumatized more often than i did early on when there were no safety features at all, i felt safer on the older internet, its so messed up

I miss when online animators were real people will actual passion instead of content farmers pumping out slop to siphon watch time from children. You used to have original stuff like Homestarrunner or parodies like Egoraptor's Awesome series. Now it's just taking whatever flavour-of-the-month characters are currently popular, jamming them together, and making the most vapid excuse of a plot to keep toddlers engaged.

i dont think metal gear awesome aged too well but i would rather get content like that instead of another one hour long video essay, who the hell even watches these videos? who is the target audience? i dont know why but those videos are so pretentious to me

like nigga this is a game about a turtle, why are you trying to act like some greek philosopher who discovered ladders

i think this is the closest thing to old youtube content and i like the simplicity of it, im getting a bit sick of hyper edited videos where you need to have a stroke to figure out whats happening or just some dude yapping for hours about the significance of some random chair and how it relates to the character being a big dummy depresso espresso, also the chair is a sign of his inner turmoil, because he just cant STAND it anymore

meanwhile niggas play silent hill 2 and they are like "what is symbolism", "the fuck is a pyramid"

I miss when I was too young to realise just how fucked up and weird the relationship between myself and an adult ten years older and on the other side of the world to myself was. I wish I could look back at all the crazy shit that I wrote at the time and not be embarrassed.

I miss the old Hulu channel.
Not even just because I hate the hollow emotionless wreck the internet's become, I just miss hearing that nice-ass jingle and quoting Family Guy and Simpsons clips (along with Smosh sketches and sprite animations) with my friends, even if some of the jokes flew over our heads at the time.

I never thought I'd miss Egoraptor, what the fuck
Ironically I was just thinking that I miss having funny internet personalities who weren't sex pests, but I guess we just didn't know yet

Late reply but I hate looking around for anything animation related and getting Bangladeshium trash. You have to wade through it too to get the good stuff. There’s no reason on Earth for AlbinoBlacksheep to have better content curation than YouTube.

Edit: Tax.

I missed when people realised you were fucking with them and saying off the wall shit for lulz. Now, you have people getting into comment chains with replies that number in the hundreds from people who can't understand that people can say whatever they want on the internet which includes lies.

Slight PL, but someone ended a relationship of over a decade with me because they're like that.
