I was confused about this as well, but after looking at the subsequent panel, I think Chris was just reading "Welcome Back, Christine"' from the cake confusedly.

That's a great observation, but it's still a very topical approach. Since Chris had no real female companion to project his feminine side (his anima), so he created his twin sister as a replacement.
Look up anima possession.
What Chris describes as a "female soul" (the anima) is a real psychological phenomenon that most men don't notice unless they reach a roadblock in their psycho-sexual development.

Chris literally inserting photographs of himself into his comic is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time, it made seeing him use the comic to reunite with his dead dad all the more jarring. The mood turned so fast it gave me whiplash. I'm not really sure what to make of this, honestly.

Well Chris has always had difficulties with female anatomy (surprising with all the porn he watches and shit) he often never draws women with obvious curves, forgetting that women's hips are pronounced... so a lot of the women he draws come off very... boyish. Just look at Lovely Weather, or the female news rPorters in the spring break issue... their hips are very narrow

So when Chris draws himself as a woman, she has larger breasts, but no pronounced hips, just making her look like a fat lump with titties...

Chris has finally found a way through social justice and his plain old batshittery of mental gymnastics to not only justify his sloth lifestyle, but to even make his laziness look "cool". At least in his twisted POV anyway.

Of course, as I already pointed out, all this shit is going to come to a screeching halt after Barb is gone. There is just no way that Chris will be allowed to live like that forever.

Do you think Chris will go back to Classic Chris when that happens? Or any other male form of Chris?

I think if Chris does move into something else after Barb's death it will probably be Adult Baby Chris. Possibly some form of gender-fluid version. When he's in an apartment, left with nothing but a tugboat and toys, he will probably be unable to go through the psychological trauma of his mother passing away.

He's already reverted part-way back to childhood. If he takes the "I'm Done Adulting" meme to its extreme conclusion, he may regress further.
