I do not know if anyone has pointed it out or not, but Chris-Chan asking to be lent something is very brazen. Chris could not even fulfill orders, and lending something to someone always implies that you will be repaid. Poor Chris, he always seems to think in just one dimension.

Yes, Chris was groomed to be Barb's narcissistic supply
Chris is dependent on Barb, and she is emotionally, verbally, and sometimes physically abusive, but I would compare their relationship to someone with Stockholm syndrome; Chris being the abused captive empathizing and sympathizing with his horrible captor. Battered wives have chronically low self-esteem and believe everything their husbands or partners get upset about is their fault. Battered wives cower and have every single aspect of their lives controlled. Chris has his finances controlled because he is gullible and Barb is a bully.
Battered women would never take a road trip to Ohio to meet a catfish or go to a Gay nightclub to explore their lesbian soul for fear of actual death. Just like the Tomgirl stuff, Chris outlasted Barb, if this had been a battered woman she would not even think about doing something similar that would upset her abuser.
Barb uses parentification and objectification to manipulate Chris and he falls for it because he is a dependent, concrete thinker.

The distinction is academic.

Does Barb actively lie to Chris's face, or is Chris just disinterested in the specifics of why she wants money and just wants to hand it over so he can go back to Legos?

If Barb genuinely needs money, why doesn't she order Chris to sell the toys in his room? Could that happen if the donations stop?

Isn't there a limit to how often Barb can cry wolf with saying she needs money for emergencies, only to buy random stuff? Wouldn't Chris eventually realize that she's lying to him while he's lugging her newfound junk into the house, or is he that stupid?

If Chris tries to probe too deeply into the specifics, he'll receive a semi-violent reaction.

Barb moderates her scary reactions with moderate or loving reactions. When Chris patches over her stupid debt costs, she goes back to being a loving, gentle elderly mother.

Chris does this all without getting actual figures on what they owe and when.

Well, i´d say yes. I guess humans are evolutionary trimmed to spot other humans that are unhealthy or not fit. Heck, we don´t even really know why people are crying, and the most agreed theory is to spot people who are sad! It is extremely difficult for us to decipher a human face, so nature just makes it more easy for us. I remember when he started this female soul thing, he was really, really motivated, he was going to Impulse, posting photos of his experiences, the girls he met, he started wearing dresses and taking pictures, recording himself doing makeup tutorials, dancing, etc., he was progressing in some ways, he was doing great (in his mind).

To clarify, I don't say that Barb always makes Chris feel like the situation is worse than it actually is. I say that Barb hides the severity of the situation from Chris. So sometimes they are genuinely hurting for cash. Sometimes Barb just wants a new minifridge that she saw at the mall. Sometimes it's in the somewhere in the middle.

I don't believe Chris has enough information to tell the difference, so when Barb says it's an emergency, it's an emergency to Chris.

The fact that he's asking for $20 or $50 kinda makes me believe he doesn't even really know how much he actually needs and Barb is just telling him that they need more.

We know he paid his court costs which was $541, which was on the 1st of July. While that's before his tugboat should have come in, maybe Barb's comes in on the 1st so they used that. Either way, that leaves a little under 2 grand for them to piss through in UNDER SEVEN DAYS.

Either Chris doesn't need the money that bad or some real fucked up shit is going down. Maybe the minimum is higher than they expected? Maybe the bills are way overdue and they had to pay them or risk getting shit turned off? I'm leaning towards Chris doesn't really need the money simply because he doesn't tell us what he wants it for. I think that Chris must leave his computer and PS4 on 24/7, even then there is no way that it would throw that amount of money away that quickly. He might be throwing away money on more of those tshirts with 'lesbian' on it but even then not enough for thousands. I think he is just lying about how desperate he needs this money.
