There is some discussion about how some of the featured threads attract weens to ruin the lolcow content (e.g. StrikerWolf1), while some argue that it would make no difference because some lolcows would end up finding their own threads anyway.

What's your opinions about lolcow threads getting featured?

Weening probably leads the lolcows to their threads sooner but they're likely to see them anyway. Weens are going to find those threads and ween regardless. They're on the lookout for them. Not featuring threads means that those who pay a little less attention or have less time to go over the boards could miss me interesting lolcows entirely and thus less lulz for everyone.

weening is only weening if it doesn't work
:agree:

But "working" depends on the payoff based on the effort. If you design some intricate trolling scheme where you lead a cow on for months, and then the pay off is a rage tweet, the tweet may be funny but you're still a ween.

agreed. a tweet is not worth too much effort.
(personally i put video at the top of the list when it comes to lolcow response)

Weens will never go away, they're an omnipresent aspect of this entire hobby. The problem with Striker is that he was a fucking idiot that would believe anything anyone said.

A cow is someone that is fun to fuck with. The thing that made Chris the best lolcow ever was his bizarre ability to ignore 99.9% of weens and laser focus on a small handful of trolls. Striker and most other cows are the exact opposite.

It comes down to the individual cow. Strikerwolf had the attention of a single thread on an obscure forum while Chris was being obsessed over by every board on 4chan in addition to Encyclopedia Dramatica.

Not featuring threads won't change the fact that very few cows are able to ignore really shitty bait. CWC is pretty much one of a kind. That perfect mix of smart and stupid that no one else has.

I personally think that weens will be weens and doesn't really matter if there's a featured thread or not. I caught myself reading some obscure-ass threads and some weens popped up. If you want to be a fucking exceptional ween, you'll be one no matter what. Autism always finds a way.

The Aaron McCluske thread is a good example of where some obscure tard got a ton of weens who appear to have been mostly or entirely unconnected to the existence of a thread about him.

My Len Gilbert thread just got featured and I'd be quite happy for him to turn up and try to explain himself. He's an author of neo Nazi furry erotica, I don't think some "weens" will put him off.

the current example, Anaiah Carlson, found his thread not due to weenery but because his youtube channel controls tipped him off:

It tells me on youtube the source of traffic. And I was seeing an unusually high source of traffic from this website and people from different countries. So i figured something was up.

is this a big enough issue to warrant curtailing it somehow? short of an outbound traffic proxy or prohibiting youtube links in OPs, i guess the only alternative left is to stop featuring lolcow threads, but that would leave an empty hole in my homo heart. i like seeing what's NEW and HAPPENING on the front page ticker there. it's made me aware of dozens of really great threads that i otherwise would not have found.
