Never a bad vid.

He is too kind to almost every movie or book or tv show he talks about, which I usually associate with being stupid, but that's not the pattern. Rare "generous" guy.

(I think so poorly of that nowadays that I have to put shit quotes around it, but he seems to really feel it.)

I guess it's because he's not really talking about the movies themselves or them in total, but just focuses on the themes and such. Those can be good or interesting to explore while the movie itself is not good at all.
 
Just found this thread and i agree with the other kiwis here, dude is one of the few individuals who is able to make level headed essays that won't end up being pretentious left wing hour long diatribes and even more suprisingly calling out liberal bullshit when the time comes to it

I remember on his "Sci-Fi, Satire, and the Post-WWII Mythos" video from around a month ago the pinned comment started accusing F.H. of being biased and not condemning the ICEstaffel hard enough for carrying out an ethnic cleanse that's totally happening bro trust me, all because Feral Historian dared to say that the left aren't all butterflies and daffodils on literally all of their political policy. It then descended into complete politically-driven retardbabble the more F.H. actually explained his point of view against a sea of people who think snark is a substitute for an argument.

These "people" clicked on a video specifically about the mythologized idea of fascism in the modern zeitgeist, saw the creator offhandedly criticize their political side for 0.3 seconds, then ran to the comments to call him biased, accuse ICE of being fascists, claim the overton window is far-right because Elon Musk did a salute, then started outright defending Antifa and Covid lockdowns. All over the course of a single comment thread.

I do not envy this dashing bald man, but I am very glad he's around.

Feral's official discord is a riot and a half because 70% of the active users are dyed-in-the-wool leftists and cried like bitches over the Mythos vid and the Riddick vid.

And, of course, being redditor types, they don't actually read or watch sci-fi or anything that Feral makes vids about. They just want to pretend to be smart.

In the Riddick vid, Feral just casually states that Trump was repeatedly undermined in his first term. The comments are fun.

That’s like an objective fact though irrespective of what one thinks of Trump. One of the big issues with Internet leftists is that they are gigantic pissbabies completely cut of from any rational understanding of politics besides the filtered information that gets through r/politics or whatever. Genuinely some of the most conceptually illiterate and ignorant people around.

Has anybody decided to read anything after learning about it from Feral? I'm kind of interested in that Jesuit space ambassador book but his analyses are so detailed they usually end up spoiling everything.

In the end I usually just watch the videos about things I've already read/watched because those are easier to follow anyway. Watching a brief analysis of something you have no contextual knowledge of seems a bit pointless sometimes.

There was one video I tried to track down a book, which turned out to be out of print and several hundred pounds for a copy on eBay.

That’s when I decided reading is gay and I’ll never do it again.
