I can't believe I never knew this thread existed. I was pretty active in the NRS community from about 2010-2017. I didn't see any comments about MK players while flipping through the highlights, but there was a lot of juicy shit going on there too. It was very Jerry Springer for a few years because there was one or two females in the community that were fucking a lot of the pros behind the scenes. It turned into some wild manipulative stuff where they would date player X and fuck player Y and Z behind the scenes as a power play in the community, then a week later be dating Y and fucking X and Z. It caused so much infighting between the guys that were fucking her that it basically dissolved the pacific northwest NRS scene, and most of the players still hate each other years later.
I was close friends with one player that was known during MK9 for being the best player of a low tier character, but he wasn't legend status because he couldn't break top 8 at major tournaments with him. The next game came out and his character became top tier. He started making top 8 at every tournament he went to, and started making money on his twitch streams. We were getting lunch one day and he started going off on me for not donating to his twitch. He was upset because I would expect a response to my messages in chat and it was pissing off his pay pigs (that he'd never met) because I could get interaction without paying (having known him for years). He told me to fall in line with his fans if I wanted him to interact with me and we haven't spoken to each other since. That being said, his success only lasted another 6 or so months. Better players than him picked up his character and eventually outperformed him. He blew a lot of personal relationships over that short spurt of success. He was also one of the people fucking the girl mentioned in the paragraph above. She almost baited him into suicide a couple times lol.
TestYourMight was the biggest MK community forum back in the day. Like people have said before, pre-social justice FGC was a lot of rough cut guys that would talk shit, drink, fights, etc. It was fun as fuck and I fit right in. The community eventually embraced the new wave of women and trannies that were invading esports at the time, but nobody had that big of a problem with it. Eventually, those women and trannies forced themselves into administrative positions within the community, namely the TYM forums, and they overhauled everything by pushing out all the old school guys (mostly traveling pros) and replacing them with people that enforced modern social justice narratives. A perfect examble of this would be 16-Bit. He was turned tranny and made his way all the way up into working for NRS directly and spread his deviancy like a cancer.
I'm also pretty sure TomBrady fucked SonicFox when he was still underage. I was at EVO one year and the NRS guys had a big pool party at the hotel. Sonic was maybe 16 at the time and wasn't open about his perversions yet. Him and Tom were splash fighting in the pool and it devolved into some pretty awkward and sexual wrestling. Most of us assumed Sonic was gay and it just turned into an inside joke. Tom was also one of the people sleeping with the girl in the first paragraph. He was convinced she loved him. We did pro wrestler style entrances for the players in the hotel room money match streams, and he made an entrance with her on his arm like a wrestling diva. It was cringe as fuck and hilarious.
I need to dig through the thread a bit more and see if there's any MK stuff that I missed, but I also have to be mindful of how much detail I go into because all the people I'm talking about could identify me in real life.
Edit- This is 16-Bit. He was the best Kitana player in the world for at least MK9 and MKX. He was king of the Chicago NRS scene for many years. Then he turned troon and started working for NRS. I think he started life as Steve Brownback and is now living as Stephanie. Had he not trooned out, he probably would have been pushed out, too.
