Its insane how this game went from underground heavy metal influenced game to big budget anime wack off fest with shit gameplay. GG sign was already pushing it, but the series is too far gone.

Testament's key art looks like a loosely associated collection of random body parts.

Taking him in that direction is weird since he wasn't actually androgynous before, unless (relatively) lightly built guy in a skirt is what people consider sexless. Maybe they didn't want to update Bridget, so instead they fed Testament to the twitter trannies.

After lurking in this thread for so long, I feel as if I shouldn't venture out of mainstream fighting games like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat because it's infested with trannies and gender specials.
I'd rather talk to someone who only played SF2 on SNES way back then than a tranny who knows all the lore and meta. Sure, I'll have to explain who characters like Dan, Rose, C. Viper, Guy, Dudley and such are but it'll be much more pleasant than "OMG!! Testament is soooo queer!"

It's also been something like a 5-6 year time skip in game, so Bridget should be very different by now. It would be interesting to see how much the design changes and whether or not they keep the yo-yo or do something completely different for his game play.

According to Arcsys, Testament was originally a man and is even referred to as "Kliff's adopted son" but was rendered genderless as a part of the Gear modifications, and this is all pre-Strive stuff. I could dredge up the Japanese blurb but it does actually use the phrase "androgynous" and "sexless", but there's no mention of pronouns because Japanese language rarely uses pronouns in general.

That said, this new design is obvious troonbait.

I'm gonna have to ask for proof if you do have it because I feel like trannies are just gaslighting me. I used to pay pretty close attention to obscure GG lore and this was the first I had EVER heard of it. What made it worse was the number of smug ass troons going "LOL TESTAMENT HAS ALWAYS BEEN NON-BINARY! EVERONE KNOWS THAT!" and yet I checked the GG Wiki and prior to this reveal, Testament was listed as "Male" and there was not a single note about him being non-binary or losing his gender or anything prior to this trailer.

What's more, if Testament was male originally and is only sexless because of a forced Gear transformation, isn't it kinda fucked to use they/them pronouns and call him genderless?

That said, it was interesting hearing the MASSIVE difference in voice between the English and Japanese trailers. Everyone felt that his obvious male voice in the English trailer made it clear he was still male and I even personally preferred it as I liked the hyper feminine looking but still masculine sounding Testament. Like...I actually LIKE this redesign. He looks good with that hat. So THIS...

Sadly I regret to inform you that even obscure fighting game Discords are infested by troons. A certain NeoGeo game I loved so dearly I paid $400 for the actual cart (good thing I did, it goes for over $2000 now with $300 for a bootleg) has had its Discord troonified. Heck, earlier in this thread only the Melty Blood discord didn't outright ban the N-Word in any permutation and I'm curious to know if that changed. If Melty is the only refuge then fuck it I'll play.

Translates roughly to "[Testament] is a hermaphrodite. In fact, he's transcended humanity, just like me."

Daisuke's response is a bit tongue in cheek but the term 両性具有 (ryouseiguyuu) can be read as androgynous or hermaphroditic although from what I've heard, the term has fallen out of use these days, but reading the kanji literally it's "possessing both sexes" or something. My Japanese isn't great but DeepL was more or less the same as what I got using my dictionary.

There's a Japanese wiki that has some more supplemental information: https://w.atwiki.jp/aniwotawiki/pages/14516.htm which comes from the various other GG-related media such as the JP-exclusive drama CDs. Obviously it's all in japanese but you can throw it into DeepL or something. But the snippet of note is this one

彼のカンチョーやられヴォイスに「私の秘密に近づくなっ」と言うものが有り、ファンの間で両性具有節が囁かれていたが、公式にて両性具有であることが発表された。

Which basically says something like "He says 'Don't come near my secrets!' in a voice like he had been kancho'd, so fans had rumored he's a hermaphrodite, but it was announce officially that he is a hermaphrodite.
"カンチョーやられヴォイス" is kind of the Japanese equivalent to that squeaky voice guys make on shows whenever they get kicked in the balls, or in this case are on the receiving end of a classic Japanese prank involving fingers going up one's asshole.


There's only like a sentence or two mentioning it because because before Strive came out, it was about as important to his character as knowing what brand of toilet paper he prefers.

Testament always had a female JP voice. Now that GG has been blessed with dub voice acting, we have a western "female" VA for him! A "female" VA that almost exclusively voices adult male characters btw.

Spoiler: I honestly don't think Testament being male was ever seriously questioned

GG predates 'non-binary' and Tumblr. Few people ever thought he was anything other than some kind of goth or emo inspired design, maybe referencing Marilyn Manson and other musicians who had a feminine or androgynous stage get-up. Maybe 'always' is the case for people who only picked the game up after 2014 or something.

A relationship chart from one of the art books lists Testament as Kliff's "adopted child" (養子) rather than son, but I haven't gone looking to see if I still have an old game manual around.

Ozawa-san specifically uses the word 無性 (musei) which means agender or genderless, and is considered a common non-binary gender category in Japan."

So it's a weird case of "Testament was always non-binary" and "Testament being non-binary is a new thing" at the SAME TIME because Testament was always Ryosei but now he's Musei. And then Keine points out ryosei could mean hermaphrodite or androgynous. Ah the joys of translation mixed with COMPLETELY different LGBTQ cultures.

Either way the troonaphiles are REALLY annoying about it.

Makes me wonder if it's possible to have a Discord for normal people to get together and play fighting games together without letting troons in. The only way I can think of is a private Discord between disgruntled fans and then it can be invitation only.

I would love to talk to level-headed people about my favourite characters and games, have a safe haven for setting up matches. I'm not very good so I'd lose all the time but it'll be fun to try.
