Fighting Game Community (FGC) General - The history of FGC drama, general FGC shenanigans, and directory to more eccentric individuals and subcultures within the community

You missed the point of my post anyways. I'm asking how the game can have so many sales if there's so few people actually playing it, especially a game with emphasis on multiplayer.
I think you'd be surprised how many people will unironically pick up fighting games for their single player stuff and completely ignore multiplayer/only do local stuff with friends. Especially if its single player content is actually worth a shit. I can't even begin to count the hours of my life I've wasted in things like Soul Calibur 2's Weapon Master mode, or Guilty Gear's M.O.M/survival stuff. Killer Instinct's Shadow Lords mode alone I would say is worth the game's price, personally.

Yeah, this is true. I never play the single-player stuff myself but it is a big reason why a lot of people pick them up. The players that play strictly for the 'traditional' mode aren't actually in the majority of buyers which is kind of weird to think about sometimes. Tends to be a problem among the players who only play for the traditional mode which is kind of weird to me.

By that I mean a lot of mid-level-players-who-think-they're-hot-shit-level-players think 'these modes aren't for us why aren't they working on the stuff for our mode' (tbf all the 'single-player' tools the competitor needs are getting way better in this day and age). Among the big, higher-level fgc personalities that I like to watch the consensus between them has been 'these casual for-fun modes are important and bring in more money than you think'. So really it's just the shitheads who think they're hot shit where you find most of the juicy laughs.

So it doesn't. 「男の子である。」(Is boy.) is pretty definitive nevertheless, no?
That's a good question, and I suspect this is the particular phrase that's leading to the confusion.

There are a number of grammatical structures used in written Japanese that rarely appear in spoken, conversational Japanese. One of these is 「である」 (de aru), the verb construction from which the copula (the sentence-ending です (desu), だ (da), だった (datta), etc.) is derived.

In normal usage, absent of other context, 「ある」 (aru) could be translated as the direct-style present tense (or "non-past," since Japanese grammar doesn't distinguish between present and future tense) of the English verb "is." The direct past tense would be 「あった」 (atta), or "was." This would lead to the conclusion that 「男の子である」 (otoko no ko de aru) means "is a boy."

However, written Japanese also frequently uses verb tenses in a way that wouldn't depict time linearly if translating literally. Instead of using "de aru" (is) and "de atta" (was) to demarcate tense, "de aru" is almost always used, regardless of implied tense. (Another example of this is the auxiliary verb 「しまう」(shimau), which similarly avoids using the past tense 「しまった」 (shimatta) in situations where spoken Japanese would normally call for it.)

As a result*, I believe there's insufficient context to specify with 100 percent certainty whether the literal translation would be "is a boy" or "was a boy." I mentioned this a couple of posts earlier, but it would be helpful to see Bridget's Japanese in-game character profile to see if it differs from the profile on ArcSys's site**.

* The sentence's other verbs are similarly inconclusive, something that I glossed over because this post is getting too long already. I can clarify in another post if anyone would really like an explanation.

** I suspect that the Japanese in-game profile might be identical to the online one, despite the English version containing a different translation from the online profile. The Japanese language is capable of expressing the same idea in fewer characters than the English language, something that can lead to issues when localizing video games. Text boxes are often designed to fit the number of characters required in Japanese and can't be expanded without altering the game's code. Although not as restrictive as it was back in the early console days, like when unfairly-maligned SquareSoft localizer Ted Woolsey had to chop out huge chunks of Chrono Trigger's plot to fit all the text on a SNES cartridge, localized versions have to be compressed into a limited amount of space. It's entirely possible that the Strive localization team didn't have enough space to use "Bridget" in place of pronouns like the English online profile did, so they went with the pronoun that would cause them the least amount of grief. (That's just my theory, though.)

Why do trannies ruin everything? It's either them or furries that ruin it for everyone. Guess you can put "gamer girls" in the mix if you like.
This is why you gatekeep. Speaking of "gamer girls," Sherry Jennix is cancer (So is Susu_Jpeg, but I threw in Sherry cuz thread).

The FGC was ruined by very shady people from NY and SoCal before trannies and furries took over. If you really into its history, you'll realize a lot of "legacies" and "celebs" aren't what theyr'e cracked up to be (especially Justin Wong who did some pot splitting back in the day when GamerBee and Kuroda didn't make him their bitch).

Speaking of, we need Marn back to kill GG again.

From what I recall a good portion of the Socal and NY are really just the guys that stuck around to this day while better players moved on with their lives.

Right now it's just the hustle living off old legacy skills cause even right now Daigo is starting to show cracks with his drinking issues.

If you mean the voice actor, then no. It's supposidly this woman

Not like it matters, ArcSys is already gettingh ripped apart for not hiring an actual tranny to do the English Voice

It's never enough for them, even if they make the most 100% accurate tranny representation they will find something to bitch and moan about it.
Do they not realize, that there's no way a character like Bridget if it was voiced by a troon, he wouldn't be able to sound cute? Because that's his whole point.
If Bridget was voiced by a troon he'd sound like a chain smoker fucked by life altering drugs.

A little off-topic, but this translation is surprisingly accurate, for the most part. "Policore" (ポリコレ) is an abbreviation for "political correctness," in case it wasn't clear from the context.

The blacked-out word is 「キチガイ」 (kichigai), which essentially means "crazy" or "mentally ill." However, it's a slur that doesn't really have an analogue in English with the same emotional impact. It's frequently censored in print and other media, if it's used at all.

I especially like how they nailed the "bussy" translation. The Japanese word is 「ケツマンコ」(ketsumanko), literally a combination of the words for "ass(hole)" (ketsu) and "pussy" (manko). I'd recommend that any aspiring Japanese learners add it to their vocabulary and use it as much as possible.
