Fighting Game Community (FGC) General - The history of FGC drama, general FGC shenanigans, and directory to more eccentric individuals and subcultures within the community

I don't like the "New FGC" all that much - but I can basically boot up and find matches for any fighting game ever invented and make friends that way. For example - I would never have been able to play Persona 4 Arena/Ultimax if there wasn't online for it; no one in my scene picked it up and no one local plays it (despite there being a machine for it here, somehow). It's also not like the "New FGC" is the only gaming community being pozzed by money and/or inclusivity values - it's not that much different than any other online gaming space currently.
The local FGC here is weird. Most of the players are very passive aggressive, can't take a joke, or/and are trannies. There's internal cliques too with many know-it-alls who aren't that good but they really need to tell people about frame data, matchups, and doom/gloom about the latest fighting game patch.

This is the behavior I would expect from antisocial mmorpg players. I had a different impression of the FGC, is this what it's like now?

Also was the old FGC really THAT bad?
It was literal children and teenagers acting their age. Also incessantly whining about cheap tactics. Or tryhards who throw tantrums when they lose to someone who's playing unoptimally. They also liked to tell anyone who was an adult and still playing video games to go get a life, so maybe it wasn't all that bad.

TMW the boy now identifies as a girl so your homosexual attraction becomes retroactively gay.

Fag shit, was turned into fag shit. Nothing of value lost or changed, This reeks of KIA shit.

Sounds no different than the current scene minus the last part.

Neither. Just sit back and enjoy the fireworks.
Pretty much this. The fgc deserves its karma and downfall, and I doubt it will change anytime soon because of cuck shills like Wong and Max.

Absolutely nothing. I didn't start playing fighters with other people until the 3DS/PS3 with SF4 when online matches were all the rage. I'm absolutely terrible playing stick.

I just keep hearing people say how bad the old FGC was, but never give specific examples of it, only that it was so roudy that it needed to go away and/or change.
Back when Third Strike was really popular, you were given shit depending on the Super Art let alone picking characters like Ken, Chun, or some shit-tier like Twelve. Third Strike, MvC2, and CvS2 had a bunch of elitist shits that chimped out and got into fights over button mashing (KoF 98, Last Blade 2, and Garou are kind of the SNK equivalent in terms of elitist shits). Even Jojo had its elitists. The 3D scene had a lot of gatekeeping because "top players" hogged frame data to themselves or buddies to keep winning tournaments until the game's lifespan (A forum mod in the Soul Calibur 2 forums intentionally kept frame data away from people). This is why 3d fighters never grew like they should have.

The FGC did some gatekeeping, but it was halfassed and usually for the wrong reasons that never made fighting games grow.

I'm still wondering how the old FGC was bad. I saw old footage of the FGC that dates back to the 2000s and it looks much more better than the current scene, maybe it has do with the fact that it was an niche hobby and people aren't afraid to be "toxic" or speak their minds.
When people talk about the 'old, bad' FGC, they're generally referring to a specific bit of california that had some crossover with gangs. Introduce money into it, and some people got heated enough to wind up in the hospital or worse. This would have been the mid 90s, and not at events, so it pretty much only exists in oral history. Make of that what you will.

I've seen this video has been making the rounds lately... I guess they really are going all in to making the FGC more into the soulless poz fest every other community is consumed by.
In the video he goes, "join a discord server, ask around on twitter" Im so fucking sick of trying to look for tech just to get bump into some obnoxious fucking trannys on a discord. I just want to play video games
It's definitely annoying. The use of Bridget in the video thumbnail, showing Sonicfox not once but twice at the beginning and the sappy intro from the melancholic guy explaining his lament, interest and overcoming anxiety about fighting games. I've never been a pro and I've always had fun button mashing and learning a few special moves in fighting games. Like minded people always are friendly enough to play against you at an arcade and if you have a copy of the game, there's training modes and games that give you the option of making the combos automatic and simplifying the difficulty for novices.
The guy in the video went to saying how he had anxiety playing online for the first time and I totally called it. I've always thought it was odd to hear ppl say that. First time I went online in sf 4 I got fucking destroyed and me and my friend were laughing our asses off at how outclassed we were, and simultaneously stoked to see ppl doing legit combos. Being scared of losing and having anxiety over playing online seems to only exist in fighting games and that shits goofy
The first time I played BlazBlue at an arcade I was doing well and some guy joined in, fought against me and knew how to play the game. As expected, I lost and it sucked but I didn't have a meltdown or anxiety attack over it. Maybe because I grew up during the time when these games weren't played online. There was always shit talking, ball busting and most of the time it was all in good fun. I'm guessing the old FGC stigma has to do with all the rowdy kids, cholos, black dudes and other riff raff that gave it a bad name. Most of the time, these kids would skip classes and spend most of the day at the arcades. Depending on where you went, it was somewhat sketchy.

A lot of the fgc was in California until New Yorkers like Justin made a name for themselves in East Coast tourneys. You used to have people slam and throw $200+ stick on the floor or trying to break machines after they got wrecked in matches. One of the more memorable moments was when a fight broke out during a MvC3 match that cost an arcade machine when the fight broke out. A lot of chicks were never taken seriously because a bunch of them were attention whore losers like Starslay3r and Sherry unless they actually had some of reputation like Kayane and Chocoblanka (Kayane was okay in Soul Calibur, but moved onto other things in her life).

Street Fighter and MK guys would do some shit talking, but the antics really came out during Third Strike, MvC2, and CvS2. Tekken players were usually chill, but the Soul Calibur players, however, were some of the biggest faggots you'd come across. When a local store near me had fighting game nights, anime fighting game people were creepy autists, but they weren't as bad as the Smash people who hogged the store and gave you dirty looks for no reason.

Not gonna lie. The way you're post and the previous ones discussing the old FGC makes wish I can experience it for myself. Shocked you didn't mention how awful the smash players smell when they are all together in a tight space.

This was also during the "dark age" of Capcom fighting games. Marvel vs Capcom 3 was "OK but 11 years worth of wait?", Street Fighter x Tekken was complete dogshit, and Marvel vs Capcom : Infinite felt extremely unnecessary and like a cash grab.
I think around 2011-12 when Ultimate Marvel was the big tournament game was actually the high point of the SF4/fgc revival before it crashed. UMVC3 is my favorite game, the combos are wild, the tournaments were hype, you had hilarious tiny thug FChamp doing his thing, Mike and Gootecks peaking on excellent adventures, fanatiq money matches, combofiend. TTT2 came out on ps3 the year after as well so if you liked tag fighters it was an amazing time to be a fan. It's all been downhill from there imho.

Reminder we lost Roger for a fucking shitty Vampire and some Idol bitch only pros use to humiliate people in tournaments (thank Peta if that's true).
Eliza's addition was actually part of a poll and the balls on Namco for having one of the other poll contestants be Miguel's dead zombified sister that was supposed to be an actual emotional part of his backstory lmao.

I'm at work so can't do it/don't want to forget. Can someone use one of those face fusion/baby maker apps between Anna Taylor Joy and Smug?

This is why you gatekeep. Speaking of "gamer girls," Sherry Jennix is cancer (So is Susu_Jpeg, but I threw in Sherry cuz thread).

The FGC was ruined by very shady people from NY and SoCal before trannies and furries took over. If you really into its history, you'll realize a lot of "legacies" and "celebs" aren't what theyr'e cracked up to be (especially Justin Wong who did some pot splitting back in the day when GamerBee and Kuroda didn't make him their bitch).
Sherry Jennix is the epitome of scene whoring, but I'm only vaguely aware of Susu_jpg as "smol bean with huge tits and a gimmick" -- what cancerous shit has she done?

imo that stunt he pulled with the ads during evo was pretty based
Being that I stay away from EVO for the cancerous faggotry that it is now.... what stunt?

Related: I miss the days where these faggots were just money matching (excuse me, "betting bison bucks on") each other at Super Arcade... back when people could do dumb shit on camera and not get unpersoned for it.... when even UltraJew and JamesChinChinChinaman were actually laid back. Those were the days... the days when even Viscant could shittalk LowTierFraud under the table.
