I am beginning to understand how George felt when he told Lenny to look at the bushes and think about the rabbits.

Put on Frausty Faustings and why the fuck are these retards still wearing masks? They don't block smash stink so who even cares?

Even the convention scene is easing on masking, cities long stopped giving a fuck. As far as I know fighting game majors are the last fuck heads who refuse to go "mask optional"

The only other game events that still require masks (to my knowledge), are Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering events. And I haven't heard anything if either of those will lift those said mandates anytime too.

if you want to dig for more content on Emezie, he (pretty sure it's a guy) also posts on EventHubs under the name Xykes and is reviled in the comments sections of that site for showing up in every single article to somehow make it about how Street Fighter 5 is the best fighting game ever made and how all the haters obsessed with it are trolls. To clarify, he's not obsessed with Street Fighter specifically, JUST Street Fighter 5 and will shit on both 4 and 6 whenever given the opportunity.

He literally made it his entire life to whiteknight this specific game for the last 7 years. And given it's not a very well-liked game, he's been working overtime.
I appreciate it. I'm fairly certain I won't be able to get what I really want that easily if I ever did a deep dive myself, but what I want is Emezie's Shoryuken.com front page postings.

Exact same whiteknight, ball-hugging behavior you are referring to, with a comment on nearly every other article defending some such game, influencer, or cosplayer, easily going back to 2010 and pre-dating SF5.

Ho-lee SHIT. I remember seeing these videos years and years ago and laughing them off but now that I think about it I probably should have detected the fetish angle to it. But then to see that it's the very same Xykes I've seen going to bat for SFV for over half a fucking decade blows my mind. There must be only like 10 people in the whole FGC lol.

EVO's lineup got announced, apparently they're going to start doing a rotating "throwback" tournament starting this year. I know they tried something similar with Marvel 2 before covid but this seems to be a regular open bracket deal. Marvel 3's their first choice and I can't say I'm complaining too much. Seems pretty standard otherwise.

Marvel being back on the card is SUPER exciting. Even olds like Viscant and FChamp are tweeting about coming back and training for it. The only thing they could have done better was replacing Strive with XRD or Accent Core because that game is fucking boring.

Now for the bad news: rumor has it no more top 8, it's only going to be top 6
It could potentially be interesting. I doubt it will be, but smaller "top X" is a concept that could be expanded on by giving more games to the players who reach the top 4 positions or something.

A friend of mine who has done some organizing for netplay tourneys and helped with his local tourneys used to have people bitch all the time about how "first to 2 is such a shit format for fighting games because rounds can be so short or carry such momentum that 2 games isn't enough for someone to adapt". So to try doing something new with the tourneys, he was like "what if we make games 3 rounds but still first to 2 games?". People bitched said no that sucks. "What if we make it still 2 rounds, but we just make every game in the bracket ft3 instead of just grand finals?". People bitched and said "too much work", which always cracked me up because it's like.... nigger, what do you mean too much work? He's running the bracket, stream, and doing commentary. He is doing all the work, how hard is it for you to show up and play video games? They eventually settled on doing a top 4 rather than a top 8, which meant the bracket moved through faster since you didn't need to stream as many different sets at the end, but all the top 4 sets were first to 3 rather than only the grand finals being ft3. Naturally, people bitched that they needed to "play too many games" and people watching bitched that they "didn't get to see enough unique player matchups".
So, even if EVO is making the top 6 change for a good reason, which they might not be, people would probably still bitch about it anyway.

Warner Brothers announced Mortal Kombat 12 today in their earnings call. Ed Boon usually does a bunch of cryptic teasers on his social media accounts before announcing a new NRS game but it doesn't look like he's said anything about MK12. That's pretty unusual for an MK game.

The Evo 23 hype thread on the Test Your Might forums only has 18 replies and has been up since Tuesday. Even Mortal Kombat players don't give a shit about MK being at EVO again. I had to check because I figured the game was already long dead.

He probably didn't want to tease it because it would be an admission that there is not going to be an Injustice 3. He probably also wanted to wait for a break in the Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 hype as those are remarkably larger titles.

The WB games have gone MK -> Injustice -> MK -> Injustice -> MK so everyone (of the people that give a shit about NRS games) was expecting an Injustice or "non MK" entry.

MK resetting the timeline once was interesting and I was very happy to see where the story went after moving a quarter-century in X, but the time travel aspect of 11 to bring back older characters and yet another timeline reset made me eyeroll. And considering there’s a surprising amount of lorefags for MK, making them realize none of it matters even by vidya standards probably won’t be good for keeping them around or at least hyped for future entries.

Time travel has been a writer's crutch in MK for a long time now.

If DC can reboot everything every few years why can't they?
