Fighting Game Community (FGC) General - The history of FGC drama, general FGC shenanigans, and directory to more eccentric individuals and subcultures within the community

One thing to keep in mind is that the fgc is criminally autistic, and thus will react with hostility to any change.
That's what gets me the most. The FGC is the ONLY group of people that will actively go out of their way to hate and completely avoid anyone touching their precious games
  • Sonic communty - hacks galore with talented people that actually made an official game for SEGA
  • Pokemon community - hacks galore, some of them even praised to be better than the originals
  • Mario community - hacks galore to where even Nintendo went "fine, make your own fucking game on the WiiU/Switch!"
  • Streets of Rage - fangames and hacks with one in particular being so beloved and preferred over SOR4
Fighting game fans on the other hand? "NOOOOOOOOO not my heckin 'based' mechanics!!!"

There was a community patch for MK9 that came out in the late 2010s. It was good but came so late that 99% of the community never knew it existed. It was especially interesting because it fixed a bunch of things that NRS said was impossible due to things being hard coded into the game, whatever that means.

Ken over Ryu, interesting.
Probably because I could imagine Ken is more popular right now given that his character actually developed I guess over Ryu who's still Ryu but with shoes and a beard.

And you can never go wrong with Chunners.
Disappointed it's coming so early but I guess the iron is hot right now.
I am disappointed that it's happening at all. Call me a sperging purist if you will but I was hoping that we could keep CotW pure from all the trappings of modern-day gaming.

We still haven't revealed the full roster yet, there's still old favorites people want back (Hokutomaru, the Kim twins, GATO AND FREEMAN) so all this other shit is rather superfluous.

IDK, man City of Wolves is turning into a mess between this and the Christiano nonsense or whatever the fuck that's supposed to be.

I suppose I¨m just being idealistic here when I say I wish they'd focus on their core audience

And it's not like SNK is out of the public zeitgeist like MK1 with the CvS collection and Terry being a guest in another Capcom-adjacent property in SF6. (He was also in Fighting Ex Layer even if that didn't create a tidal wave of buzz I guess) so I don't know if we need all this.

I wanted COTW to stay "pure" as well.
But when Vice/Mature were announced for KoF XV instead of team SF I knew FF was getting the crossover.
I'm hoping Mary and Franco make it into the game but what I really want is more new original characters in the base roster.
We can always add old favorites via DLC even though I hate the concept.

They should add Lily Kane. It's criminal she's only been in Maximum Impact. Other than that I wouldn't mind more originals either or characters that were almost included but axed.

Like Alice Chrysler.

The infuriating part is that Born2SPD studied the complaints people had about the weaker characters in ST and applied the suggestions that professional players have been talking about for nearly 30 years, and they fgc still shrieks like retarded children because someone had the audacity to fix capcom's many blunders. The fgc is a cluster fuck of beta faggots orbiting a miserably small clump of professional players, and they are so fucking stupid that they cannot recognize said pros' influence on a project without it being written in bright pink neon.

Not against guest characters and dlc, but historically SNK was always good at expanding on their own properties and letting the characters they have be reworked even some decades after the fact (Ex: Hwa Jai). Even someone like Robert was a charge character at a point and letting him have 2 versions was cool. That's not even getting into someone like Kyo thru the years

At this point of the genre its hit more of a slog point and its more about the star power than trying to expand on what you already have. Its good from a business standpoint to try to get some crossover, but its definitely shifting away from what SNK was known for.

Why do you hate fun?
Honest Answer - it isn't fun anymore. There was a time it was really fun but that was like in the very early 2000's and they've been beating this same drum for going on ~25 years and in the last ~15 years they've ranged from "Completely Horrible and Killed a Franchise" (SF x Tekken, Soul Calibur 4) all the way up to "Neat but kind of fucks this game up" (Akuma in T7). I think it has a place in a game like Smash where it's kind of written into the story and not that serious but it's been in nearly every fucking fighting game that's released in the last 30 years.

It ruins most thematic/story cohesion a game has unless done with a very light touch and generally results in some very lazy characters/character designs (because they just look like they're from whatever game they're from). They also take spots away from actual Newcomer characters - which most fighting games are really starved for because the sequels have completely bloated rosters. This is a big problem when a lot of "new" characters are "Different Version of <POPULAR CHARACTER>" (aka Kage, Evil Ryu, Super Evil Akuma) or "Reused/Hybrid Moveset of old character" and now we're getting constant "<POPULAR CHARACTER> from other game" with copy/pasted movesets. I'd imagine that most SNK players are probably former Capcom players that were sick of every Street Fighter having Chun and Ken in top tier and now they roll up "hey guess who's coming to dinner".

I love Ken - but the Ken/Ryu story has been going on for like 30 years in real time and I think at least ~15/20 years in game story time. We need some new stuff and we aren't going to get it when we have to force the Street Fighter universe together with Rival Schools, Final Fight, and Virtua Fighter (plus whatever the else they throw in there). The last time Capcom really seemed to challenge themselves with characters was SF3 and that was 1997.

TL;DR - Crossover characters swept through the FGC like Crack in back neighborhoods and had the same result.

You know, is there a thread anywhere about the Guilty Gear Strive community?

That community has gone south since Bridget was announced as trans, and is basically going the way of the Smash community now, complete with weird sex controversies between a few of their pros and that dude Technicals blowing their shit up and calling them out. I just find it crazy that such a community fell so far from grace so fucking quickly, and this is coming from someone whose played GG for over 20 years. What the fuck happened?

As somebody who was competing in weeklies between 2020 and 2022, it's more than just the Bridget stuff. The game started off with a big selling point, one of the first mainstream modern releases with amazing netcode during covid years. Around the time Bridget was released, there was also the crossplay patch which made the game unstable as hell, you could still have the peaks of good netcode that you had before, but it was much more often that you got into a broken laggy match.
People also initially tolerated the lobbies, but somehow the lobbies got worse and somedays the game would just refuse to let you play with certain other people, really great for online tournaments.
On top of everything else, Arcsys balance patches and DLC seem to just be antagonistic, less about variety of gameplay and more about making me you sit there and block for 10 hours longer than the patch of yesterday.

TLDR: Along with pushing rainbow bullshit, quality of life in the netcode and lobbies took a dive, and to finish it all off the gameplay has either deteriorated or at the very least been very annoying.
Everybody that wanted to play the game for the game was discouraged, all the non trannies evacuate, and all the trannies stay because it's a safe space.

Even that they got cold feet with because they didn't think it would sell well without Ryu/Ken.

And wouldn't you know it, the most used/popular/OP characters in 3rd Strike are Ken and Chun-Li
I've seen that cold feet tactic with SF6, honestly. The game sets JP to be the new Psycho Power villain with his own evil company and ties to the previous Shadaloo. And honestly, I was kind of hoping they'd do something new and exciting with it. But then they added Dictator back into the roster and gave him a BS reason to come back. It's like Capcom didn't know how to tell a story without him anymore.

Come to think of it, they did the same thing with Heihachi and Reina in Tekken 8. I dunno, man.

NinjaKilla tells us what we already know. If your name isn't SonicFox, Ed Boon doesn't give two shits about what you think about the game.

Don't want to make this another "Strive is bad" circlejerk but the moment I saw Sol not having a dragon install anymore and May's design being a bit different, I knew something was wrong. I'm ok with change but something like no dragon install felt like a drastic change that only made it so new players could enjoy.
