Smash is not a fighting game, and the only reason there's any real overlap is because either people don't have that in their heads yet and because they often share the same venue.
Just like how smash is big enough to have their own events, they're big enough to have their own thread.

The thread's rewrite is complete.
The Smash community is heavily stratified from the FGC. There's overlap, but they are not interchangeable. Whether or not you think Smash is a fighting game, the players from Smash seldom if ever cross over into conventional fighting games and vice-versa, and often their only interactions are in shared tournaments. Saying the two should be merged is the same as saying the Low Tier God thread should be merged with this one.

He partnered with the St. Maarten tourism board to promote a tournament called Video X Games (VxG) in 2013. It was promoted as being some kind of big deal tournament. Top players were flown out to the island. Partway through the tournament, players found out that consoles were running unpatched SF4. Flocker, a member of Triforce's EMP team, essentially threw the Marvel grand finals by picking a joke team.
Triforce made a fool of himself afterwards on Filipino Champ's FGTV stream, trying to defend Flocker's decision to not pick his real characters.
Supposedly, no one ever got paid their tournament winnings for VxG.
Triforce and EMP have also been involved with Twin Galaxies for years.

Keep them separate. There is an argument to be made (which I am not necessarily taking a side on) that Smash isn't even a fighting game to begin with, but a party game.
In addition and less controversially, the Smash community has its own unique autism and antics which I think do not deserve to muddle a more general FGC thread.

People are trying to cancel Mr. Wizard, the host of EVO, now.
Unfortunately, a majority of these claims are mostly unfalsifiable since they happened nearly two decades ago. The big take-away is the writer claims Mr. Wizard bet $20 the writer's penis was below average length fully erect when the writer was at the age of 17, and the writer obliged. The writer cites Viscant, another tournament player who is coincidentally known for beating LTG in a grudge match, so it will be interesting if Viscant confirms or denies this.
Viscant, on the other hand, is staying far away from all of this cancel drama, to the point where he hasn't even acknowledged it, which I believe is the best approach. In that regard, if the allegations above are false or overblown, I personally am not amused by the writer throwing the burden of proof onto Viscant when he clearly wants nothing to do with it, but that depends on if this is true or not.

They’re distinct. The only reason they’re mentioned together so often is because the Meleefags forced the issue one year with weaponized charity; and now they throw a hissy fit every time everyone else gets mad that they go a goddamn hour over their alotted time. This happened at almost every EVO that it was on the main stage if I remember correctly. I remember in 2018 seeing that the Melee Grand Finals were on, fucking off across town to get food in preparation for the next 2-ish hours of Tekken, and comming back to see that the awards hadn’t even started for Melee yet. How does that fucking game take longer than the unmitigated trashfire of a vanilla DBFZ final?
Edit: Who runs EVO if Wiz gets cancelled? The Cannon Brothers were (might still be?) involved in the Riot fighting game which is a supermassive conflict of interest.
