Final Fantasy 2 is only good FF game

First, it's not Square. It's Square Enix, which is another creature.

The problem with franchises is very simple.

It becomes self-referential, because that's all the old-timers want to see; and let's face it, fanboys are a captive market. It lights up the same part of the brain as belief in divinity. Look it up, it's true.

Or you can just reshuffle, hire a bunch of new people, with no attachment to the classics. And then it becomes something else, and it's not "Final Fantasy" anymore.
I say Square to single out Final Fantasy.

I do think if it weren't for the rabid fanboys Final Fantasy would have probably become an afterthought much sooner. They kind of painted themselves into a corner, but it's a comfy corner for them and occasionally neat things come out of that corner.

This thread went downhill quick.

I still haven’t played FF7 or FF8 yet.

They have sexy, blocky angles. And no mouth. So they can't scream as Sailor Barret pounds them raw.;)

I have the PSP version of FF2. I liked it. But I quickly ended up with maxed stats. People say the game is hard. But maybe it was the way I played it. Or they made it easier for PSP.

7 is so old that it feels like a worn copy.

I still enjoy it, but you kinda had to be there. Nobody had ever seen such risque stuff in a game before. Same with MGS1.

8 has a good soundtrack. That's about it. They were under pressure to top 7 and shat the bed. It has its cult, of course. But it will never be regarded as a classic.

Trivia: Xenogears, Legend of Mana and Chrono Cross had the same issues. Aesthetically stunning. Esoteric storyline. Worthless side characters. I'm so kawaii and my weapon is a potato and I only inflict four damage.

The summons in FF8 looked good. And I liked the card game. Just avoid playing in towns with bad rules because you will end up spreading them like the plague. I hated that mechanic and it limited my ability to play cards in certain places.

Maybe they could have included Magus fully in CC if they hadn't wasted time making every weirdo you come across recruitable. Can I just ditch trhe whole fucking Cha family, that stupid mushroom man and Karsh's whiney, incel ass? Yeah he's kind of cool in combat but who didn't want to smack him at least once?

I like that the rules evolve. "Let's play by Galbadia rules." Makes the world seem more real.

But it's more trouble than it's worth to play by new rules. At least Blitzball had an even keel of sameness.

Looks like Magus was a victim of the roster bloat. He showed up in Radical Dreamers but was cut from the sequel.

Hand drawn backgrounds are the only thing it's got going for it.

Akshully... He was. IIRC Guile was Magus, or suppose to be but a lot (I think all) of the content relating to him finding his sister got cut out so they changed his name and backstory.

Briefly my interest is piqued when we select one of three outlaws to get us in the Manor. Each with their own shortcut/motivations for going in. These are the only Disc 1 characters who make sense.

I would've said, "Shut up and let these guys go", because they're all very amusing. Guile is basically Setzer but with a Siegfried & Roy gimmick.

Any opinions on FF4 remake? One i am playing. Played it in English first. Now in Japanese. Japanese seem to work better interms of the theme of believability of the stuff happening, and then you have Yuri voice actor in english, too soft. I dunno. I dont like it. He sounds too much like a gentleman. just rubs me the wrong way, i dont think you become a dark knight by saying please is all.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star is only good Paper Mario game -

The whole LGBT liberal trans changing characters in Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario is for faggots. Pure and simple.
If you want it to be less gay. Origami King.

But Sticker Star had the original most fun combat. Only game that tried to be fun.

Paper Mario got popular because people got attracted to the style. But the core game is insanely weak, outside Sticker Star because that one rules.
