Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

The FFXI raid left a poor impression on me as well. I never played the original game, but from my humble cursory investigations it appears to me that FFXI has such interesting and well developed lore/world building that blows XIV’s out of the water, and here it’s had that world and several key characters reduced to crappy holograms for the WoL to beat up in a schizophrenic sequence. It just robs the experience of any meaning or fun. You’re literally hitting things that aren’t real and are only simulating something that is. How is that supposed to be fulfilling? It’s the hollow experience of interacting with the fake AI people in Living Memory all over again but worse.

It also made me realize how vapid and empty the world building of FFXIV was made, and how far it’s gone away from the setup in ARR. The Mothercrystal wasn’t a true origin of all that is like in XI, it’s just…. A person. A person we killed. The gods, also just people (and we killed them too.) The threat at the end of the universe? A thing made by a person.

There’s no real cosmic forces, nothing greater in the universe than people. There is nothing older or higher (that still exists), no mysterious powers, no might greater than the WoL’s. There’s nothing analogous to the XI Mothercrystal or Altana or even the Shadowlord in XIV and there’s no reason to assume there ever will be.

The Warrior of Light is basically the most powerful thing alive.

Your meme roegadyn or slutty catgirl is the closest thing in existence to god, according to the game’s own lore. You play god.

I was.
I had to do a lot of experimenting to come up with a macro that was minimalist friendly. I had to farm scrips to afford materia AND souls stones to swap specialties for the small buff and actions.
I just finished making a lot of the current endgame crafting food and syrup so that'll help a lot.
Then I have to farm scrips for the folklores for gathering so that I can gather and desynth the sands I need to craft the latest crafting set. THEN after that I have to begin another overmeld grind. Thankfully for now I don't need to remeld my whole right side.

Man, crafting and gathering is a whole rabbit hole and a half of a time sink. But at least I'll be able to make a fuck ton of gold crafting endgame food, gear and tinctures for the big raidheads.

Man coming back to the game after months of not playing really left me rusty. Of course nothing that muscle memory wont fix, but coming back to relearn stuff was annoying. Also playing with Japanese voice because i cant stand the Eng Va voice.
 
This patch did Koana so dirty with his characterization. I was looking forward to seeing him in action only for him to go full blown autistic. Even Wuk Lamat was less dumb than him during most of the cutscenes.

Quite frankly, I found Koana was the same as usual with his autistic ass. It's just, you know the trend where autistics become hyperobsessed with a singular topic of interest?

In this case, for Koana, it was "MUH HERITAGE" and "DA BUFFALO".

It's so funny to me that the MSQ tells you to fuck off and kill time while they analyse audio logs, and that's when they decide to deliver Koana's backstory in the most contrived and ham-fisted way possible. It's almost like they acknowledge how irrelevant he is. Shaaloani has officially become the time-wasting zone. The writing is so shit.

For me Koana has consistently had the same problem as Wuk, which is that he's supposed to have these character flaws but they never actually matter to the story or cause real conflict so he just comes across as mildly spergy and immediately flips when his views are challenged. In practice he just exists to look autistic to try and make his equally-autistic sister look better just because she heckin respects culture and isn't frowning during all of their vacation photos.

It's a shame too, because the zone is one of the best in the expansion. Huge, open, dinosaurs, and cowboys. It's wasted on this garbage fucking story.

I really do feel cheated. Cowboy zone could've been a whole lot of fun if they didn't suck so hard at writing. I remember feeling mildly hopeful when we arrived in Shaaloani because I'm a sucker for westerns. But then rubber bullets

For me it was not that but the absolute insanity that the first time you go there and you seem to finally leave Wuk behind to start have fun with Erenville, the questline immediately needs to mention Wuk in every quest and suddenly her babysitter needs to be stuffed in there to have more links with Wuk

I hate how hard an area as conceptually interesting and unique as Shaaloani (where the fuck else do you hear American accents in this game?) really does get shafted as being "the filler area".
 
Unrelated to the current discussion, but is anyone else having difficulty giving half a shit about the pelupelu beast tribe quests? I typically have no issue getting invested into these storylines, especially the Loporrit's from EW, but I just do not care about these south american jews and their money-making schemes. Especially when it is a thinly veiled attempt to shove more Hanuhanu nonsense down our throats in the name of profitable tourism.

I have no interest in the Pelupelu tribe quests because they're apparently a combat class series of quests and I was hoping for either the crafter or gatherer series first so I could have a lazy way to finish grinding out my levels.

I noped out on giving a shit any of the story in DT so I just skip all the cut scenes. I'm of the same mind as you on the beast tribes. And fuck you SE, they'll always be beast tribes.

Tbh, I'm kind of a sucker for Final Fantasy X, so the fact the travel lodge is a near 1-1 replica of Rin's Travel Agency sold me a bit
