Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

So, through Twitter, I just discovered that an FFXIV D&D5E compendium exists.

I haven't even begun to leaf through it for real yet, so if anyone notices something particularly exceptional, feel free to point it out. I do find it interesting that they seem to have even included Garleans as a playable race which, when stacked up with the rest of the actually playable races, feels somewhat weird to see.

It's been out for a quite awhile, to my knowledge.

Nothing particularly note-worthy, and I'm not really surprised by the inclusion of garleans. It's a TTRPG module; it'd be weird if they didn't allow the player to choose what was supposed to be a major race in the setting.

First time I ever heard of it myself, figured it would either be interesting or entertaining to bring to the thread's attention.

And I get the practical aspect of including Garleans as a playable race, given that it's meant for a TTRPG setting. It just has a bit of a strange feeling to it considering that they're not playable in the actual game. Plus, there's the years of seeing the stigma from the community over Garlemald. And all the edgy/degenerate individuals I've seen who like to roleplay Garleans. But that's neither here nor there.

I'm surprised they didn't write guidelines for playing Beast Tribe races as well, but I guess that's something for further homebrewing if anyone was interested in doing so.

What would the traits for the Garleans even be? I imagine their class choices would be limited considering all the other races sneeze magic.

According to that Compendium I linked:

Optional Racial Trait

Magically Inert. You have great difficulty casting magic on your own power and require the aid of technology to do so.

In the world of Final Fantasy XIV, the Garleans have a great deal of difficulty manipulating aether, which caused them a great deal of strife in the past. It is not impossible for a Garlean to gain the ability to do so, and half garleans have no trouble at all thanks to their mixed blood.

When playing a casting class as a Garlean should have their casting focus flavoured to account for this. For example a Garlean Wizard could have a staff which recharges magic energy over time and uses that charged staff to cast spells. Their spell slots recovering when the staff recharges at the end of a long rest.

They also get higher ASI. It's also stated that they technically can wield magic, but it needs to be refluffed that they are probably using magitech devices that accomplishes the same goal.

Which is still consistent since we see Garleans do that all the time.

If only the lead of the Ruby/Emerald/Sapphire/Diamond weapon project wasn’t a creepy asshole maybe the weapons could’ve been useful in 5.5/6.0
Speaking of that, I’m fully predicting that 5.5 will throw a curveball.
- The Diamond Weapon fight will be a solo against G-warrior.
- the trial itself will be the Oversoul.

We know the Oversoul source is Zenos, but the mindset of the oversoulled is wrong, so they’re looking to modify it. So we’re probably looking at somebody who wields a katana or otherwise has similar skills to Zenos, but is distinctly different from Zenoand probably is a FF7 reference.

Now, were there any prominent katana wielders in FF7?

I'm sure we could rummage around the trash bin of Deepground to find a katana wielder

just imagining the edginess of the final weapon fight is giving me a headache

This sounds and reads retarded. If you have to make up a whole new mechanism for casting classes and give them a special trait that no other playable races have just to be able to play as an elezen model without the elf ears, it's bad design and can either clash with existing systems or break them entirely. They've already done that with Blue Mage. Would be more simple to just job restrict them as only pure blood garleans wouldn't be able to cast magic. Half garleans are aesthetically no different than any of the other races. You can't even tell if they are half garlean or not, you have to be told they are and take their word for it.

Don't even get me started that the majority of the races that have garlean blood in them were conceived through rape when empire forces would conquer and occupy a territory. Most Garleans are extremely racist and wouldn't willingly sire a child with anyone other than another garlean.

oboi another moogle treasure trove event, if you don't want to do stormblood alliances i would recommend queueing with a shittier ilvl.

I do that to double dip on roulettes and collecting relic memories

Really wish they'd bring back the construct minion for the mogtomes. At least I just need to do the Namazu earrings and be done.

nightmare and salt and pepper seal. ffxiv team you're wild men all of you but definitely worth farming the tomes now

Anyone here still lingering around in FFXI?
XI died long ago because it followed the standard mmorpg thing.

i got a ibage from /v/ which pratically explains why FFXI failed.

if XIV doesn't yank the troons hard it will be destroyed by the deviancy of it's players, not because of the GD's retardedness like XI

Lol I somehow missed that splendid piece of art. I know fuck all about Everquest, FFXI was actually my first one. I can see the similarities, XI was definitely more catered to a hardcore population. It's little wonder that XIV devs don't have that mindset as not everyone has that kind of fucking time anymore. Glad to see the hardcore fags that whine aren't getting catered too, as we've discussed in this thread.

That leaves the other issue, as you said, the troons - and basically the rest of the gigafags who endorse this behavior and will go out of their way to reportfed anyone that doesn't tow the line. Was all fine and dandy, nobody really got suspended unless they went out of their way to fuck with someone. Until 2019 when GMs loosened the rules to ban anyone for any-fucking-thing. So far I'm content to just play with the small circle of folks I roll with. We'll see what happens.
