Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

For the gameplay shown of BRD, the quintessential raid buff class, it had no damaging buffs whatsoever, instead turned to regen, shields and movement speed
I don't think we've seen any tooltips. The songs could still be handing out damage buffs but they weren't touched on or simply weren't implemented yet.

EDIT: There's localization panels and zero Kate. Could the legends be true? Could the witch be dead?

Sike she will appear mid story and it is reserved as a surprise and it will become "Follow Wuk Lamat" again!

Tbh, I'm not too thrilled that the alliance raid for 8.0 is just more crossover fodder. I know they are doing everything they can to retain people, but I appreciate original stories more than just endless licensed crossover stuff or having crossovers from other FF games. Having it as like an event is fine, but having it take up an entire content slot is...meh. I dunno. I'm also in the camp of the few people you can count on a single hand who doesn't pog at the sight of Evangelion.

Counting the days until FF14 just becomes the fortnite of MMOs.

Agreed. Though I feel like a hypocrite since I loved the Ivalice raid. Then again that had Matsuno involved and led to the stellar Bozja content as opposed to the over and done raids like Nier or (presumably) FFXI. Sucks that plot wrapped up so poorly though and Matsuno isn't coming back. Feels bad man.

I feel ya on Evangelion as well. Never got the hype back in the day and definitely not interested in seeing it in FFXIV. Here's to hoping the 8-man makes up for it. Maybe a decent Trial series?

The Ivalice raid was actually tied into the gameworld, though, beyond 'golly gee here's this strange portal!'

And it was also a lot more thematically appropriate compared to NieR or Evangelion (IMO.)

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I don't mind crossovers. I've never played Drakengard or Nier but at least it has a couple original characters and unique visuals so I can just imagine my WoL is off his head on Dwarven hash and having a bad trip. Whereas Myths of the Realm is 100% original FFXIV lore and is a complete flatline for me story-wise and aesthetically outside of maybe Nald'thal.

NIer fits right in, its world already involves multiple dimensons, Automata happened because a fantasy world brought fantasy aids and magic to Earth, afterall.

and that was more so Nier could have its real epilogue (that is canon btw) than anything for FF14.

Ah, I think I misspoke with using 'thematically.'

Ivalice feels a lot more organic while NieR feels more shoehorned in. "Golly gee, there's this weird portal here!" vs there being actual grounded places within XIV's gameworld, a history, etc.

The Scions are one of the worst things about this game, that and the button bloat. They're too afraid of killing them off because the ESG audience will show a shit fit and quit, whilst spamming Twitter and Reddit.
I grew to really like them as the expansions went on. They really went from being annoying tag along kids to being the the FF equivalent of the justice league.

alphinaud was probably the worst one and I immediately took a liking to his new british voice as soon as Heavensward dropped. The drama with his father in endwalker actually made him a favorite.

Frankly somebody needs to get wacked at some point, and they need to make up their minds on if they are going to always be with the Wol or not, but I have no problem with them right now.

Agreed. I remember seeing people getting all emotional over the Endwalker launch trailer and the stuff in Ultima Thule and I was just going 'none of these fuckers are staying dead so why does any of this matter?'

The hill I will die on is that Alphinaud is the perfect example of character development over the expansions, and a role model for the care they should have shown all our main cast members.

He is presented at the beginning with a set of flaws, is given growth towards surpassing them, and then comes full circle in the events of Endwalker into being a fully developed person.

The problem is that we're past Endwalker now; His (and Alisaie's) story is effectively over. They should have been allowed to depart the main narrative on the high note of their arc.

Dragging them along now is just going to ruin the characters and take up screen time that could be given to others that need it more.

The Ivalice raid barely counts as a "crossover" as it was directly tied into the story and was being setup to be the next "main" area until they shuffled it all off into the Bozja relic area instead. It's no more a crossover then the FF6 / FF4 was.

I really like the idea that it basically indirectly confirms FF14 is in the same universe as Ivalice. Shame about the drama behind the scenes. What was going on in particular? I thought it was pretty cool the whole way though.

as a Yoko fanboy since Drakengard 1 the fact that it was NieR themed was honestly enough even if it was one of the first times Automata had a thoroughly fucked crossover schedule, it adding to the convoluted but still pretty neat lore of Automata was good, the first crumbs we westoids got of more official NieR shit since Automata until the NieR remake. The outfits were pretty mixed though, the goonslop that was the 2b leggings incensed the coomers even more even if some of the pieces do kinda looked nice. Bozja's judges armor and the general other standard bozja gear was cooler.

Wasn't it confirmed FFXIV is doing its own thing? There are visible differences between it's version of Ivalice and the OG.

I am a little confused by the decisions shown in this slide.

Paladin is the job that has passage of arms, and utility actions meant to support allies. Why wouldn't it have been picked for the OT category given those stated criteria instead of... y'know, Warrior? The largely selfish tank job?

There apparently some differences in names and what not. But it kinda feels like the same way the star wars MMO handled its connection to KOTOR. There's an alt version of Canon to fit the MMO storyline, but everything to a certain extent still happened. The events of a version of FF tactics and even Vagrant story happened and its part of 14's world. That's pretty cool.

if they want to ride the wave then something based on UC to tie to hathaway. Alternatively G Gundam where devil gundam can be the final raid boss. Or if they want play it safe, SD world with the 3 kingdoms.
