Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

The WoW exodus brought the worst fucking people into this game and the community hasn't recovered.
The worst fucking people were already in this game as evidenced by the sheer number of disgusting troons, gooners, furries, Discord mods, registered sex offenders in waiting, etc. that infest every server.

I'd much rather people who get a bit salty if mechanics are fucked up and care about doing content than mincing retards dressed in maid outfits advertising their BDSM 'venue' 24/7. It looks like SE is taking a veeeeeeeeery small step at the sheer amount of coddling they do for these speds by making things slightly more complex and weaning them off of archaic systems.

It doesn't change that the worst types were already in the game, but I'll bite.

What makes WoW players so horrible?
Most of them are third-worlders or soylennials. Bad culture fit.

EDIT: I should clarify in case we do actually have some of the "good ones" here that I'm like half shitposting when I talk about WoWfugees. I don't think it's purely a 'WoW player' problem but more of a 'too many players seeking normie validation' problem. XIV used to be more niche. If you played it, you were probably a fan of Japanese games and/or pop culture, you were probably a lorefag on some level, and you were probably more into throwing yourself at content without caring too much about how you were perceived. The influx during late Shadowbringers brought not only the WoWfugees but really every fucking kind of trend-chasing faggot imaginable (including a significant portion of the actual unironic troons/faggots who now infest the PF). The game stopped having interesting plotlines and started filling every patch with woobies of the month.

I've mentioned it before but I fully expect them to include some sort of story skip in the new expansion because new player rates have evaporated, and at Fan Fest Yoshi-p was straight up begging people to recommend the game to their friends and family.

The new player experience would probably be 1-15 as normal, send them through Sastasha as a dungeon experience, then skip straight to 8.0 with a short cutscene going over the basics about the source, the shards. the scions and end with a tutorial on NG+ mode, then send them off to the new MSQ.

As for the "WoWfugees" some will probably return for Evercold, WoW fixed some of the issues that caused the initial exodus, but now they are fucking up in new ways.

all this time and everyone still bitches about Crystal Tower being the only fucking thing people unlocked, they really should just bite the bullet and make all the Alliance raids mandatory. They figured it out with the trials series, but refused to do it for Alliance raids.
I disagree, they need better incentives: either make a new roulette that requires you to unlock all non CT raids (perhaps leave the current expac raids out) and gives a ton of capped and uncapped tomestones or a system similar to adventurer in need that gives increased/ extra exp or capped tomes if you queue for the least played raids.

This is why I am hopeful for the weekly stuff they showed at the fanfest: the content is there, whats missing are incentives. Believe me how many times I would rather do void ark or ivalice raids over crystal tower but my time is limited and I'd rather do something that gives me tomes or exp (alliance roulette always lands on CT sadly)

Imagine skipping Heavensward or Endwalker just to get to Dogshitrail.

Anyhows i believe that story skipping option should be an option after finishing base game(ARR) because at that point either you will be interested or not. I do think msq should be a little more streamlined because having 15 minutes of basically "go from point A to B" while reading loads of text boxes can be annoying when all you want to do is get to the next cool thing, provided you care about following the story.

Personally i believe Evercold is the turning point, either they unfuck themselves or make the game an even worse experience and drives the final nail to the game. At this point im kinda indifferent to the outcome of this game with this new expansion. If it works then great and ill be happy for myself and fellow kiwis who enjoy the game or should it fail and land on its face then nothing of real value was lost and we just move on. The only thing im really looking forward is how the game changes and QoL stuff will impact the game.

Was randomly musing to myself and wondering if Evercold will be the FFXIII expansion? There's Nordic themes in EC and the XIII trilogy kind of delves into that as well (especially with Lightning becoming essentially a Valkyrie for Etro). Maybe the new ranged dps class would be based on Lightning's weapon from XIII as well (since it is a gunblade) that could make the class a physical version of Red Mage.

That and I'm thinking we get a Trial against the Fourth's version of Odin, be it as the end boss for 8.0 or somewhere in thr MSQ along the way. Maybe base it more on his FFIV/FFIX appearance?

I dunno. Just having random thoughts.

Decided to hop back in since got intrigued by the new expansion info.

On the topic of story-skipping, I do think game story kind of benefits from somewhat "compartmentalized" storylines. Skipping some post-ARR story, I don't feel like I've missed out on anything. Skipping storylines of Stormblood with focus on Lyse so I could get back to Doma faster also didn't detract too much from my overall experience of Stormblood. Skipping all of Dawntrail story everytime I saw WukLamat on the screen also did help to not drop the game for some time after I finished the story, although I was slightly confused how the fuck I ended up in a cyberpunk city and what the fuck is going on.

I don't know, retards going "NO YOU SHOULD SIT THROUGH WOL JERKING PRIMALS OFF FOR 7TH TIME" is stupid, since you have actual great story in Shadowbringers that you'll be able to experience in (numbers out of my ass) 30 hours of gameplay and good cutscenes instead of 90 hours of boring cutscenes where you listen to sob story of some furry-tribals of how poor and retarded they are so they decided to summon a primal to wreck shit up.

I actually preferred the WoW players to many of the FFXIV natives. WoW players are retards with Stockholm syndrome who are neck deep in the sunk cost fallacy that keeps them playing an inferior game that's lost its identity, but at least when they don't like you they'll talk shit to your face.

FFXIV these niggas won't talk shit to your face. They will open up a secret Tumblr dedicated to alogging you and invite all of your friends and clanmates to it and spread it around your social circles, which is pretty insideous.

But like here's the ultimate difference: WoW's community was forged between like 2006 and 2010 when the Internet was fun.
FFXIV's community is largely made up of Tumblrites and gay Twitter/Bluesky communities and both groups behave accordingly.

So I guess FF14 Twitter is having a conversation about story skipping and speed running to the end game and I wanted to see what you're guys opinion on it was.

This might strike some people as harsh, but I think that those people who turned XIV endgame into a joyless approximation of a real life job, completed with people having to curate their linkedIn fflogs profile to be able to join groups or get auto-kicked by some retarded mod if your tomestone profile isn't good enough, deserve to be dragged out into the streets and strung up from the next available tree. Failing that, they should be forced to play Dawntrail twice without the option of skipping cutscenes.

"Endgame" in XIV is lame and literally only fun if you have 7 other friends to do it with. I would not venture into it if I didn't have a friend group to do savage with. PuG scene seems absolutely devastating and getting into a static seems also to rely too much on Discord shit. In an ideal world you would make friends while you level and enjoy the road towards the endgame, but the devs are also seemingly extremely raid-focused.

Apparently the Lodestone changed something to how a character's gear is stored that makes it hard for Fflogs and Tomestone to access it. Good I can't believe it's not 8.0 yet and they're already making raidtrannies lives harder.

Raidtrannies are busy crashing out because the 2min meta is going away. Some are also mad about the new middle difficulty between normal and savage for raids.

100%.

The available endgame content sucks unless you have a friend group to do it with. Even then it's kinda meh, you get the prog experience once and then you meet up once a week to reclear in 60-90 minutes at the most. At which point it basically just kinda turns into a weekly chore.

And if you don't have a friend group you enjoy playing with... PF is a horrendous place that has only gotten worse ever since tomestone showed up, and it's somehow an even more miserable experience with the sort of discord trannies you find in the static recruitment servers.

Oh god please yes, next kill fflogs the same way you did the mod-sharing thing.
I don't think they're ever actually going to do that. At least not intentionally on SE's part.

They know full well that without feedback tools the game just doesn't provide (where ACT/logs come in), high-end content in this game basically doesn't function. Their encounter design is way too dependent on tight DPS checks as the primary goalpost for people to go without some form of useful feedback tools on how to eke out more damage, which the game just does not provide in any form. The closest is SSS, which is basically completely worthless - even getting an estimate of your actual DPS output (ignoring how it is completely inapplicable to any actual raid scenario) from it requires third party tools, which quite nicely illustrates how much use it is.

SE's policy on parsers/logs has been to basically go "we know they exist, we know you use them, we know why you use them, just don't harass people with the numbers and we're gonna ignore it" for more than a decade. And until they implement useful feedback tools in game, which they aren't going to, that's almost certainly how it's going to stay.
