Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Like I have never seen a country with such aggressive cross-promotion, it probably clearly works but it's so... alien to me.

The Japanese are consumerist whores on a scale that puts every other country in the world to shame, including other Asian hell holes.

They simply yearn to have all the things they want to buy slathered in other brands they want to buy things from.

Presumably another outcome of their working culture being a dystopia, you may as well buy the toaster you take to the bathtub with you after your last 60+ hour (paid for 40) work week based on which uwu cute anime catgirl is on it.

I wasn't kidding when I said I was amazed XIV hasn't cross promoted with Fate, the japanese love putting successful things into their cross promotion and Fate crossovers over with everything from lingerie to other gacha games.

Alternatively, its corporate nepotism where every ancient Jap ceo wants to promote their drinking buddies (in this case literally Yoshi-P and Yoko Taro) in a more public version of silicone valley dick sucking.

The Final Fantasy fan community is ages 20-40 now as a result of the franchise's age as well as the initial demographic base riding on nostalgia of childhood titles. The ideal cross promotions would be to bank on adult sensibilities. It makes sense to me for camping gear and perfume to be some of them, but these little dolls, these graphic t-shirts, these vinyl standees--they don't make sense to me.

They're immensely expensive too, with that mini acrylic set for $50, Senor sabotender keychain for $25, a single "energy drink glass" for $27. $66 rubber magnets. Each one having shipping charged individually rather than shipped altogether, of course. Who on earth wants a $66 graphic tshirt of the Cape Westwind Roegadyn nigga? Finger puppets?

The Jolibee promotion is funny just because so many people were upset at the lack of restaurant locations but also because of how unhealthy the food is. Square Enix is unaware of all the uncles and aunties in their playerbase.

The only product of ff14 that ive bought outside of the game is their ttrpg. Other than that stuff like camping gear and such is weird to me especially since they know the majority of the community basically no lofe this game at times and they even have to take days off for the raids and ultimates.

I’ve brought a couple of fanmade keychains for my bags and other small merchandise from Etsy to decorate some of my bookshelves and not only are they much cheaper than the official stuff SE puts out but they look infinitely better and are probably made with better materials. There are official collectors figurines of Emet, Venat and Hythlodaeus and all three of them are universally mocked and memed over how terrible, cheap and ugly they look. They’re also 80$. The job stone keychains and charms made by Etsy artists are also a lot better than the job stone keychains and charms made by SE.

The irony of 3d printed models turning out better than Squares official ones are not unheard of especially since they tend to break like half of them during shipping, The ONLY reason those statues sell so well is the included exclusive emotes, tbh.

I remember the special Hydealyn statue they did for EW was probably one of the few negative things people had to say about EW as a whole that were mainstream. It really looked hideous

Not to mention half the time I check on the SE store for the job stone keychains I want, they don't even have them in stock. I have bought a few of the books though; all the Encyclopedia Eorzeas and the cook books. They've all been worth the price and sit nicely next to all my FF strategy guides and other game related books. Shame they made the later item codes character based instead of account based though. That felt scummy even though I have a main that I play more than other characters.

In other news, if anyone wondered what Tari/Libitina was up to these days:

Robbing FCs on Phantom, apparently. Heard this through the grapevine and had a chuckle as both sides are retarded. Was going to pop it in the Community thread but figured he was more well known in this one.

That's definitely a shitbag thing to do, but I would also argue that any FC lead that is stupid enough to give those kinds of permissions to a fresh recruit is getting what they asked for. Not defending Tari here but seriously, who would think for even a second that that is a normal thing to not only ask for but also a normal thing to do?

Was randomly musing to myself and wondering if Evercold will be the FFXIII expansion? There's Nordic themes in EC and the XIII trilogy kind of delves into that as well (especially with Lightning becoming essentially a Valkyrie for Etro). Maybe the new ranged dps class would be based on Lightning's weapon from XIII as well (since it is a gunblade) that could make the class a physical version of Red Mage.

That and I'm thinking we get a Trial against the Fourth's version of Odin, be it as the end boss for 8.0 or somewhere in thr MSQ along the way. Maybe base it more on his FFIV/FFIX appearance?

I dunno. Just having random thoughts.
It's not random. The new equipment menu is 13 inspired and they straight up have enemies from 13 in the gameplay previews. The water city in the art looks inspired by the one from ff15 as well. ( Last designed city they made before the switch from Nomura versus to taba 15)

I don't know if they will directly connect to it beyond the enemy skins and themes. I would love that but they could keep it low key.

No I 100% agree hence my saying both sides are retarded here. SE's policy on this stuff is it's on the FC for giving those permissions in the first place and won't get involved. Honestly it wouldn't take them long to get those FC credits back anyway if a couple of them did some hunts and did the nuts > gear > GC turn in route (hell, turn it into an FC bonding event and go as a group). Giving FC members you trust those perms is one thing, not people who have literally just joined or whatever. If you don't care enough about the stuff to put it behind decent perms, you can't really complain when someone takes the stuff. It's a shitty thing to do, especially when you weren't around helping to generate those credits. However, if you don't protect yourself from it happening it's on you and that's exactly what SE would tell them if they tried to report it.

Yeah I guess that might have informed where my brain was going lol. Also was thinking maybe they would incorporate a twist on FFXIII elements like the L'cie, Fal'cie, and finding a use for my boy Caius.

As an Eve Online player all I have to ask is "first time?"

Edit: I guess WoW has a similar possibility with guild bank thefts

Might just be a me thing, but I do not get the point of sitting in Novice Network to blog-post like Tari has been doing for ages. Who gives a fuck. That and just responding "rent free" seem so troonish to me tbh. Speaking of, I wonder if he's fully gone back to trooning out, he showed signs of it on his reddit account before he DFE'd.

Every game that has bank or item permissions like that has had mass thefts. EVE does take it further by having lying about any sort've friendship be a standard action now.

I still remember when he was spending all his time trying to phonebook multiple people in this thread with add ons only to be the one to get phonebook’ed himself.

The irony was delicious that day.

He literally posted a picture of his own fuckugly tranny character. That's just standing dick out in a thunderstorm.

If he hadn't been such a massive hypocrite I probably wouldn't have bothered to call the guy out. He was really knowledgeable about mods but trannies gotta tranny I guess. Would have thought more of him had he taken the L and acted better after seeing as it was just an in game phonebooking.

I got to admit, Yoshi-P mentioning he played Star Wars: Galaxies and name dropping the NGE threw me. If he knows SWG he should have no excuse for the lack of real MMO social features in FFXIV.
Yoshi-P always struck me as into western games since his big plan to save XIV post-1.0 was to WOW-ify it. I think he had his own panel at Anime Expo last year where he talked about his inspirations for his career in games, that's probably where the info on what western games he's played is from

Yeah I still can't believe he was trying to bring his tranny drama to this thread. If he stuck to talking about mods he wouldn't have been exposed but it's asking too much for someone who loves blogposting about XIV troon drama shit to not expose himself
