I just cannot seem to care about the top 1% of raid rotations or whatever. I don’t want braindead content but nothing about end game raiding seems fun to me. I would rather have more things like the second Bardam’s Mettle boss.. or something that breaks the normal formula in dungeons.

Requiring you have a perfect rotation in addition to everyone needing to do these crazy dances like with Nael or Twintania is just too much for my old ass.

It’s absolutely bizarre seeing shitpostxiv being so defensive about this EP and Wuk Lamat and genuinely caring about what people outside the community say about it when they spent years not holding back on being critical of the game as a whole alongside criticizing the msq and it’s characters. Shitpostxiv used to pride itself in allowing people to criticize the game in ways that would get them dogpiled and harassed in other XIV communities. Those threads you linked to feel more like something you’d see on the main sub than shitpostxiv. I take it the old guard who used to spend all their time griping about a game while being unable to quit due to Stockholm syndrome/sunk cost fallacy finally managed to leave. I could be remembering wrong but in the old days of the sub I faintly recall Shitpostxiv being very anti sjw and there was a lot of anti LGBT sentiment aimed at the community.

That's fair. That's one of the things I tell people about this game, you don't actually have to do any of the hardest content to get the full story experience. You certainly get rewarded if you do, but everyone can be the same item level by the end of an expansion.

Use damage debuffs on the boss (like addle for example) when it casts the permanent DoT to help out your healers.

Keep check of the boss's animations cause after some time you don't get a chat message anymore that informs you about what he does next.

Do not try to fix other people's mistakes, concentrate on your own performance.

Make sure the OT also has his tank stance applied or else your highest DPS player will get one shot by tank busters that target the two players with the highest aggro.

During the DPS phase, make sure the tanks are the first ones to get hit by the beam stack marker, as the first target receives the most damage.

Aaaand if you are melee, wait for the final feather to drop in the lightning phase before hitting the first feather that dropped, cause the AOE will one shot you despite only being a few meters closer to the zone of impact.

It’s hard to say. The big hangup on disliking the character of Wuk Lamat is tainted by the troon’s involvement but that’s not a factor in Japan. What’s interesting is there was some event where Yoshi said something to the tune of “we’ll follow your feedback on the story and make changes” before DT came out. Almost like he knew people wouldn’t enjoy what they put out.

Given that the Japanese fanbase hates her as well, I'd say it's very possible that SE might end up doing something with Lamat's character. Granted, SE and co. have disappointed us before, but given the backlash towards DT, coupled with plenty of people having issues with EW, I do hope that SE will finally wake the hell up and start making some (good) changes.

I doubt it. They care more about Japanese sentiment so they wouldn't go out of their way to appease westerners specifically.

I think the scenario writer they chose was just not good combined with people hating not being the center of attention. From what I've seen, more people are upset that Wuk Lamat is the main character and not them.

And Wuk Lamat was more of a lukewarm character to me. She wasn't bad enough to where I hated her and I loved the japanese VA performance for her. I think most people just don't like her because the story is focused on her and players feel like they are babysitting a child. Which..in a sense they are as they are basically guiding her and helping her grow up into a respectable adult with good values. The preachy bullshit in the end was tiring but it was probably the writer's attempt at showing us the difference between how she was at the start and who she's become by the end.

It could be my age talking but I quite liked the feeling of watching someone grow up and become a good person and know that you played a huge role in that process.

Finally finished DT and can return to the thread. Overall I'd say 8/10, 6/10 story, 9/10 dungeons and trials, 8ish on job changes, 9/10 on new jobs (Picto is so much fun). Wuk really ruined many scenes with her subpar VA and I might actually switch to moonspeak for the next expansion. Already rolling an alt on JP voices and they are very good. My hot take is I loved the first half way more than the second, but I am a tribal allied societal and lore whore so I love worldbuilding like that.

EX1 has been a blast, only just started prog last night and that TB swap is epic... until I remember I main DRK and my job is trash this expac. It has lost all identity, it doesn't do enough dmg to be an 'off-tank', it doesn't have the sustain of any of the other tanks, Diesteem is just Salted Earth 2, very unsatisfying. The loss of plunge is so gay, the instant transmission feels so sticky with the animation lock and I hate it. WAR is almost 100 and feels so much better in every way, it makes me sad as I want DRK to be good so badly.

Unrelated, some funny updates on the Desolance siutation:

In short, pre-video, Desolance has not stopped his crusade and has still been posting schizovideos and community posts that are unhinged. Nothing worth posting about imo, it's the same stuff over and over. After Xeno got unbanned from Twitch, he was streaming with some other streamer and Desolance, on a different character, started harassing them via DMs. They reported this to a GM and Desolance was banned for 2 weeks from FFXIV.

This trigged a massive meltdown from Desolance, where he proceeded to do a 4 hour live stream literally crying and screaming about everything. This ended in him screaming and smashing his desk causing his mom to intervene, followed by the cops who proceeded to hospitalize him as he was being a danger to himself. All of this is caught in the livestream, which was archived on his youtube. Highlights are him explaining the schitzo board he makes in his videos to the police.

It's a lot of schizobabble, so I'll list some highlights and it still isn't worth your time.

At around 0:40 onward he tells the tale of Katie from his perspective. He admits to leaking her nudes and spreading them, but that's okay because he was really angry and it was a stressful time for both of them. Allegedly, they got back together like 4 more times after this so it sounds like she's as much of a fucked up sperg as he is. There's a funny story of her inviting him to move in with her, him doing so, then he spergs out and throws a coffee at her and her parents buy him a ticket to go back home. He was kicked out of her house for the night, so he spent the night in juvenile jail and then went back home the next day. After this, he was invited to move in with her a second time, so they all seem fucked.

Sometime during the last 30 minutes (~4:06:00) the cops show up. He is on a rant, ends it with angry "fuck you I'm gonna go... suck a cock" and then the mic get's muted. Next we here some blips, until the mic returns and it's him talking to the officer as he tries to explain this schizoboard collage he made up without sounding like a maniac (impossible challenge). Lionel describes himself as a "very creative person" and the officer gives him sound advice that he should get offline, stop playing the game, and try a single player game like Elden Ring and talks about how he plays destiny (lol). Lionel agrees, Funny enough to clip, ends with him going to "talk to the EMS" and then it ends after some silence.

After agreeing with the officer and a night at the hospital, Desolance proceeded to do another stream the next day. It's just another hour and a half of ranting about the same exact things he has been ranting about, so not worth it.

He's showing all kinds of warning signs that he's a danger to himself and everyone around him. I don't think that was really a factor at all, and, tbh, I think there'll be an eventual blowback from the usual types for 'Flanderizing' Tural with Hispanic stereotypes.

There was a similar reception to Lyse and Stormblood and she basically vanished into the ether in post-Stormblood content. Depending on what their plans are for the story, I'd say odds are probably good Wuk Lumat will be taken to a farm in Meracydia where she can babble about family all day long.

Unfortunately, I think it's pretty good odds that Galool Ja is going to factor in 7.X content so we'll probably be seeing her regardless.

He's deeply autistic and he can't stop his own autistic obsession. Throughout the 4 hour stream, he keeps showing glimpses of sanity where he admits and realized what he's doing is psychotic, but he's so focused on his mission of exposing these people that he feels justified in his reactions. He knows he's acting like a pyschopath and even talks about how deeply he regrets things like the revenge porn of his ex, but then he goes right back into schizo screaming that Llamatodd is going to die of a stroke.

In some twisted way, I get it - these people have found happiness and acceptance in a community that has shunned him due to his own actions. Being able to rationalize that he's guilty of his actions that have exiled him while also seeing people commit acts he feels are heinous, but are looked over, has sent him into a schizo austistic fury that he cannot rationalize himself out of. The saddest part is when he keeps alt-tabbing back to discord and he basically has no friends, half of the DMs he has open are from people harassing him, and the other half have messages from years prior. And the ones that are recent are from other schizos that stop responding to him.

He goes between screaming, crying, and moments of lucidity that only mental illness can provide. I agree that this wont stop until it escalates to him being put away for some reason, his obsession is just too deep. I have to imagine he is going to be put away for breaking the restraining order/not paying as well, but idk how those things work.

So is coming back to this game even worth it despite the msq failings? I’ve been getting this irresistible itch to replay but after hearing about all the discourse of EW and DT I’m hesitant. Seeing the backlash towards EW especially made me weary of coming back because as someone whose been playing since 1.0 I was really looking forward to how the whole saga that started from ARR would wrap up but after being told how much of a mess it makes me feel like I didn’t miss anything, Though yet again I hear so many divisive opinions of the EP with it being either the best ending to the saga or an absolute dumpster fire. As for DT I am willing to put up with all the msq stuff if the gameplay and content is worth it. The only reason I’m really asking about this is because I want to know if it’s worth putting down money for the monthly subscription fee.

(On an unrelated note despite all my shit talking about Stormblood in this thread I genuinely did enjoy the EP despite it flaws. Before the honeymoon period wore off I even thought Stormblood was better than Heavensward when I first finished it.)
