Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

but did any of you guys hear about what's going on with Sfia and this whole "women applying for world first teams" bit he did on twitter?
I put it in the XIV Community thread. It's in PG but try talking about community drama there.
TL;DR: Scumbag cheated on his partner of several years for another girlfriend because he can't keep his dick out of his pants when he isn't currently progging something. Those two are now in a lesbian relationship with each other and are among the many women who are sharing stories about him being "The reason why women won't want to do World First".

Did the Ascians just never make the trip over there? Why is Tuliyollal more disconnected from the rest of the Source than the damn shards?
Yes. They decided to make them more inspired on Africa than on South America.

Random detail that annoys me: in the Aether Current quests for Urqopacha there's a merchant who's been scammed by an Eorzean into buying corrupted crystals because he thinks they're valuable and asks for your help in unloading them after he discovers he's just bought the magical equivalent of toxic waste. The justification is that Tural doesn't have corrupted crystals despite them being incredibly commonplace in Eorzea.

It makes sense that badly aspected crystals are more common in Eorzea because Eorzea seems to be the centerpiece of more calamities and the Seventh left a lot around, but how the hell do they try to justify having no idea what they are when there's examples of Tuliyollans using crystals in the fucking MSQ? Crystals being the ubiquitous basis of aether storage and transportation across the entire world, we're supposed to believe that they've never had one explode? Does Tuliyollal have literally any history outside of vague tribal warfare? Even that is handwaving aside the idea that there are no primals or forms of summoning whatsoever. Even the Far East had summoning via artifacts. Did the Ascians just never make the trip over there? Why is Tuliyollal more disconnected from the rest of the Source than the damn shards?
Iirc, Tural is so far removed from the mainland that all of the calamities that hit Eorzea and warped the aether there didn't reach far enough to hit Tural, hence why you don't see any corrupted crystals. There's a lot of mention on how long the sea voyage is to get to and from Tural. Eorzeans rarely travel there so it would make sense that an Eorzean swindler would trick natives who live in an isolated island nation into thinking that something that is actually useless in one place is valuable. As for why Ascians never bothered with Tural, it could be that Tural is simply too small for them to do anything meaningful with and to my knowledge, they don't really have any belief in Gods that ascians can exploit. It's much more efficient to utilize more populated areas because you'll get better results. Probably if Garlemald managed to annex all other territories, it'd be only a matter of time before they came for Tural too and in comparison to the mainland, Tural is far less technologically advanced. To add even further than that, the ascians could have in theory did something while the wars were going on, but passing up a potentially bigger prize for something so small wouldn't be smart and by the time they would turn to Tural, Galool Ja Ja would have already united the entire island. It's a lot harder to scheme with less pieces. At least this is my cope explanation for why.

Ah okay, thanks I'll take a look.

And then you have the pissed off hyperbird that caused a calamity because... sometimes animals just live long enough to become enraged megabeasts, pray tell what normally causes this to happen in Eorzea? if you guessed 'corrupted aether' you get a cookie.

Guess Hiroi forgot about it. Because he's a HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK.

Noble savage trope, I'm sure Kate really thought she was on to something by telling writers & co about her extensive knowledge on those silly little peoples who are so quirky and not evil like those terrible white people Eorzeans!

Sorry for the double post, but did any of you guys hear about what's going on with Sfia and this whole "women applying for world first teams" bit he did on twitter?
It's the same sentiment as the localizers thinking that showing all the same racial stereotypes that have been rehashed over and over throughout the centuries is somehow progressive and not racist. The more these people project about being anti-racist, sexist, etc, the more likely it's a way to make up for the guilt they feel about not having any empathy for these people at all beyond using them as social currency so they can fuck ugly troons and handmaidens in game and outside of it.

Really unsure if I should even jump back into the game at this rate; on one hand, I'm hesitant to renew my sub given how disastrous Dawntrail is, and the tranny infestation is a good a reason as any to avoid it. On top of that, I've got both other games to work on, and IRL stuff to take care of.

On the other hand, there's still quite a bit of content that I'd like to do; never completed the Bozja storyline, haven't done most of the raids, I never even completed the post-MSQ stuff for Endwalker.

Decisions, decisions...
I don’t even care to hop back on again unless they release an expansion that’s at the very least as good as heavensward. I’m just playing old games to fill the time.

So basically, the writers for Dawntrail somehow managed to make an equivalent of "the aliens are attacking the world!" and the world is just the United States? Just swap US with Eorzea and you've got it.

Unless they clearly differentiate between beasts and human-level races (and some of the beast tribes blur the lines), this potentially opens the door that someone sufficiently affluent enough that they could prolong their life through whatever means necessary could similarly be like this?

Does that mean someone's nan could become a Vidraal Tural?

Forgetting the whole corrupted crystals bit definitely kinda fucks with this entire thing.

If you can ignore the entire MSQ, then maybe still worth it. I'm keeping my sub going but that's largely cause I'm going to be raiding and trying to prog FRU on-release. Otherwise, eh, maybe let stuff aggregate and storm through it in a month or so.

Keep an eye on the patches tho. I reckon from 7.2 onwards, they're gonna shove Wuk Lamat aside with stuff like "I have to do busy Dawnservant things!" or "You go ahead WOL, I'll stay here separate from you and your party to defend this or do this task". They did the same with Lyse, and Wuk Lamat is way worse.

3 of them are named so far ingame.
Valigarmanda's a given.
Ttokrrone the "Serpentlord" is another one, and Iq Soq Xmajun from the level 90 Viper Quest also is.

It's heavily implied that they're Tural's verison of Auspices, except without the ability to speak Eorzean.
Beast Tribes seem like they'd blur the lines, but the eorzean classification system states that any Bloodborn (Naturally Born) race that is able to naturally speak a language understandable to others is a "Spoken", not a "Scalekin", "Beastkin", "Cloudkin", "Seedkin", "Wavekin", or "Vilekin". Dragons are the only Bloodborn Class (Taxonomy definition) that might blur the lines since they all speak Draconic instead of Eorzean/Spoken yet are completely understandable by the 7 playable races and Garleans.

ISPOILER]Too bad that the Ascians don't exist anymore so we can't walk up to them saying that we're Azem and apologize for everything that happened earlier then ask about some of the old experiments that happened to try and figure out what the hell is going on right now.[/ISPOILER]

Been taking a semi-break after raid burnout, but I can't escape this twitter bullshit on my feeds. My 2c on all of the xiv twitter drama going on over the past week:
These people are all insufferable. The whole thing is so boring and played out, it's practically playing out play-by-play:
1. Retard says something retarded
2. Gets dogpiled by people retard has burned
3. More retards with less valid points dogpile on to be included
4. People defend initial retard against the overwhelming retardation
5. Retards continue to mudsling back and forth until the next controversy starts and we go back to step 1.

no wonder why all these dudes are cheating on their gfs, these womxn are some of the most self-entitled retards I've seen in gaming.

I honestly think a lot of why everyone in Tural comes off as retarded beyond belief is because they want to avoid white savior/colonialism vibes.

Which is stupid. There wasn't any need for Tural to be an emerging continent, and there's indicators that Tural simply just advanced in another direction in the BLU questlines.

You could have had portions of it that were more 'primitive' or less developed and explored the clash, rather than just give it lip service w/ Koana.

Meso American cultures were actually pretty good at certain things (when they weren't ripping the hearts out of people's chests) in terms of 'technological advancement' or whatever (aqueducts, city planning, etc. I honestly can't recall a ton of it given this was shit I learned about in elementary school) and a good subversion by just having a continent that developed in parallel to Eorzea. And the East. And Garlemald. And like literally every other part of the world except this one massive continent.

Instead, we get Not Fern Gully meets Not Avatar with the serial numbers filed off and a great black shit taken on top of the script.

Yeah, it is wonderful that all the caricatures that Tural gets whittled down into come off as being more offensive/insensitive than what an actual honest exploration would've netted us.

Lucha libre makes absolute perfect sense for the raid series, and I'm convinced we're not going to get that because it'd be 'offensive.'

You forgot the first computing system in the Quipu, Hiroi looked at the possibility of making a quantum supercomputer composed of strings and knots and went "BuT iT IsNt TaCoS". Hiroi looked at the possbility that the "Golden Gate" and the "Golden City" could have been built by ancient turali people and instead opted to go with "wOrlD EnDinG DiMenSioNal ThReaAT FrOm AnoTheR ShAaRd". Hiroi looked at the possbility of having an absolutely huge expanse of world building and lore by implying the reason that Lizard Jesus had to reunite the tribes was because Tural had a Cataclysm of its own making 100-200 years ago (because of said ancient string and knots hypertech) but he chose to pretend that the entire continent had effectively no history outside of "gIaNt ChaSe ThE CiTy oF gOlD" until Lizard Jesus showed up.

Hiroi could have fucking retconned the calamity of Lightning which is the most boring and nonsensical of the seven rejoinings (it happens because kingdoms form and they go to war with hammers and swords, magic didn't even fucking exist back then, sure whatever) as "Emet-Selch the worst travel agent in the universe was responsible for that one by giving the turalis string and knot quantum supercomputers that used lightning as their power source". This gives you an easy link to explain why the tech seen in the golden gate looked like shit out of ancient allag (it came from the same person) why when heritage found is swallowed the aspected aether that permeates the entire thing is lightning, why elecrope exists, etc. Instead Hiroi choose to have his 'TrAgIC PriNcEsS fRoM AnOtHEr DiMenSioN' because God forbid you use the remnants of the Ascian plot in a tactful manner.

Hiroi is a fucking retard is what I'm getting at, he should be fired and offer his pinky as apology.

I'm honestly wondering if the 'sensitivity' readers and consultants square used weren't also second generation west coast LatinX faggots much like the voicing studio they used for the EN version. I wasn't expecting Tural to have the level of care the far east got since Japanese writers would obviously deliver better and more through writing about the things they know, but they could have done better for Tural with a simple google search.

Yeah, it's insane how rote and ridiculous the story is. I wasn't expecting something mind blowing, but I wasn't expecting a retread of the story we just got.

It'd be like if World of Warcraft's expansion after Wrath of the Lich King was called Golden Road, and we had to kill a master of the undead in the southern continent of Azeroth. Like, yes, I get that there's going to be some repetition in ideas/thoughts if we want an ongoing antagonist or to make things feel like a living breathing world, but everything was just done so poorly.

The studio itself isn't really the issue -- they've done other shit for other XIV projects and XVI -- it was the casting, oversight, talent used, etc.

Kugane/Doma is a trash-fire of Asian stereotypes too, a strange conglomerate of Korean, Chinese and Japanese aesthetic and cultural traits. What I find so ironic about these racially enlightened troons that infest this fandom is not a single one has any comment on the faux-pas of co-opting certain parts of Korean culture to mash together into the greater "ASHUN" identity that was Kugane. I'm sure if you asked a politically aware Korean how they felt about being used as a nice flavor piece for a Japanese-centric Asian theme park they wouldn't be the happiest to hear it. I know China and affiliate games/media will have strange exaggerated expressions of the Han Dynasty, but Kugane/Doma always stood out as weirder because you could see the dripping contempt for these non-Japanese Asian cultures that are underhandedly baked into Japanese culture which made it feel forced. In fact, the entire Yotsuyu arc made me feel this way. Oh no, the poor Chinese girl Doman girl was sold into sexual slavery because Chinese families Doman families are poor and degenerate, so now she terrorizes the countryside and cannot be redeemed but we do feel sorry for the old whore. All their bitching about Ala Mhigger yt's yet no comment on the domaniggers and how they must bow to their Japanese imperial lords Kugane. This just feels like a gold mine for any hand-wringing virtuefag to wipe their nose all over but i've mostly seen radio silence.

And the most baffling part is that Kugane/Doma had no requirement for story/cultural consultation, for obvious reasons. This same team would not only be unaware, but at this rate, eagerly ecstatic to implement cheap 1940's Disney era depictions of other cultures.

I'm done with training my racing Chocobo. There are a bunch of endgame builds you can go for, but the most popular ones are Cure III/Super Sprint and Increased Stamina III/Super Sprint.
You can literally afk and hug the left wall through the race on Sagolii and still get a 50%+ winrate against NPCs with a Super Sprint build, you only don't get first place if you get Bacchus/Meteored at an inopportune point.

I viewed the stuff with Yotsuyu as being an indirect acknowledgement of the 'comfort girls' stuff from WW2 Japan.

Kugane isn't exactly portrayed as a utopia and is a separate kingdom from Doma. I'm not well versed in Japanese history, but the sense I got is that there's some minimal social commentary going on.

And those places being a mashup of stereotypes is kinda my point -- they enjoy that shit (and China tends to be pretty anal about depictions of things, which is why we have Red Hare / Guan Yu / Lu Bu / Sun Wukong shit in literally any game that has a Chinese presence) and don't see the harm in it.

Imagine if you asked people from Peru or Bolivia or Brazil or Mexico instead of some retards from California about Latino culture.

(Also, is it fair to say that the Confederacy -- the pirates in the Ruby Sea -- are supposed to be not-Koreans? It's funny how both China and Japan shit on Korea, lol.)
