Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Kugane is straight up Edo era Japan, where the country is closed to outsiders, with the sole exception of a handful of trading ports. Kugane itself is pretty much an analogue for Dejima, just change the Dutch for Uldah or Eorzea in general. From memory the JP dialogue even uses 'Sakoku' to describe the system.

We just got to the first meetup with Emet-Selch after the faerie stuff. I'm actually really enjoying our jaunt through The First so far. Emet seems like he'll be a fun villain, I enjoy ham bad guys who clearly just enjoy being evil.

The stuff with Seto and Ardbert was heartbreaking. It's been enjoyable getting to see more of our counterpart from another world. I hope we continue to get more of his perspective on how his own world got fucked up by blindly following what everyone told him to do; Since, realistically, that's all WoL has done in the source up to this point.

The Titania trial was pretty cool. I might rerun it a couple more times tonight just for fun. Can't complain too much about Shadowbringers yet, but I'm eager to get back to the source and see what the fuck's going on with Garlemald while we've been away. Hope Estinian and Gaius have been fucking shit up in our absence.

Also small thing I liked: The Nu Mou. They're one of my favorite Final Fantasy races and I'm happy I got to see them even if just for a second. They're so dopey and goofy looking in a charming way.

I'm done with training my racing Chocobo. There are a bunch of endgame builds you can go for, but the most popular ones are Cure III/Super Sprint and Increased Stamina III/Super Sprint.
You can literally afk and hug the left wall through the race on Sagolii and still get a 50%+ winrate against NPCs with a Super Sprint build, you only don't get first place if you get Bacchus/Meteored at an inopportune point.

What's up fellow racing enthusiast?

I busted him out again during the last Make It Rain to make the last push for the 500 wins achievement and made over a million MGP in the process lol

I got into racing once but didn't really understand at the time how the breeding and stuff worked.

Enjoy the kino while it lasts. There's a bit of faffing about mid-way through the story, but ShB is the same like HW in that I never once felt they wasted my time (too much).

EDIT: Pro-tip, do all of the role quests for ShB. They're actually very relevant to the MSQ as well, and will unlock a post-MSQ quest once you complete both MSQ and all 4 quest.

Just got the 500 wins achievement. It's good. How many total races are you at now, I'm around 1.1k.

I really want to get into racing, those MGP earnings are pretty dope. Maybe that'll be my goal this week in game.
Step 1: Do the unlock quest.
Step 2: Level your first chocobo to 40 through racing.
Step 3: Retire the Chocobo and buy a shitload of Covering Permissions from the Tack and Feed Trader.
Step 4: Throw out any of the absolutely horrible ones you get and breed 10 times.
Step 5: Find the male and female chocobo with the best stats and do Step 2 again.
Step 6: Instead of doing Step 3, breed the male and female chocobo together and try to get an even better male and female chocobo in the next Pedigree generation.
Step 7: Repeat this process until you get a Pedigree 8 chocobo. Instead of immediately retiring at rank 40, level this one to 50 and do most of the Chocobo Challenges so that you can unlock Increased Stamina III and Choco Cure III. Pick the one of the two you want here. Stamina gives you +15% stamina and boosts the stamina you get from stamina regen pads or Choco Potions but also increases the amount that you lose from Caltrops, Meteors, and Bacchus. Cure can be used to get 12% of your stamina back and can be refreshed by Choco Aether. They're both viable options.
Step 8: Retire the Chocobo after this and have the ability you picked be the hereditary one instead of Dressage.
Step 9: Train the other Pedigree 8 Chocobo to rank 40, give it Stamina or Cure (Or the other one if you want to let fate decide), retire it and start breeding.
Step 10: Congratulations, you should have the uberchocen at this point. When it reaches around Rank 40, you don't need to retire it anymore and can instead put Super Sprint on it so that you can run through R-300 at an absurd pace.

If you want a specific color on your Chocobo (e.g. Red, Black) expect steps 3-6 to take much longer since you'll need to buy considerably more Covering Permissions to ensure that you're able to get the right colour.
How does Breeding work?
There's 4 parts to it.
Heriditary Ability: It's a 50/50 on which of them gets given to the chocobo.
Colour: Also 50/50.
Pedigree: All Chocobos that you breed yourself will be Pedigree 2 or higher. The Pedigree is determined as 1 higher than the lowest of the 2 breeders' Pedigrees, and cannot be higher than 9.
Stars: ...It's determined by grandparents.
When you breed 2 Chocobos together, it looks at the Father and Mother stars on the Father and Mother and randomly picks one of the two on the Father and Mother to give to the Child as their Father and Mother stats. Yes, you can have the Father Stats all be from a Grandmother and all of the Mother stats from a Grandfather, I might not be explaining this well and don't want to level this on a new character just to explain better.
Then when you send the Chocobo to the tracks, it randomly picks from the Father and Mother stats to determine how many stars it has.

Stars, like Pedigree, increase your Chocobo's max stats. By 40 per star (Specific Stat Only) or Pedigree (All Stats).
The higher your max stats, the higher the Rating of your Chocobo and the higher the class you'll be racing in as a result.
Each of them have slightly different layouts but are as long as each other.
Speed increases your max speed while running. 500 is terminal velocity and also what Hero Tonics and Sprint Shoes/Sprint Pads take you to.
Acceleration increases your acceleration, simple enough. It's also the most useless stat.
Endurance increases your Lathered Threshold and also decreases the amount of Stamina you lose while Lathered.
Stamina is exactly what it says on the tin. 500 Stamina is roughly double 100 Stamina, by the way.
Cunning decreases the slowdown you experience while offroading and the negative stamina impact you receive while offroading. It isn't that useful if you just race on Sagolii.

Fair/Foul weather preference changes your chocobo's max speed if it's a Fair or Foul weather.
Fair is +10% in Fair weather, -10% in Foul weather.
Foul is -5% in Fair weather, +5% in Foul weather.
Both of them are equal at 100% speed in Neutral weather.
Foul isn't as useful as it used to be since as of 5.1 all races start in Clear Skies but it is slightly more consistent.

When training your Chocobo, you want to try to keep Speed, Endurance, and Stamina at roughly the same value compared to each other and if you end up maxing the stats early you can dump the rest into Cunning.

If I missed anything or you want some more explanations, please say so.

I replayed the Shb patches recently and I honestly don’t get where the people who say Graha has an unhealthy romantic obsession with your character comes from. As someone who reads every line of dialogue of the msq and goes over it with a fine toothed comb none of his lines read as romantic or stalkerish to me. He seems like someone who just looks up to the player. Am I missing something? Is it because I don’t really watch anime much and as such don’t pick up on tropes?

Graha does have a fanboy mentality towards the WoL and Estinien, though it isn't anywhere near the Unaltered Script for Hauchefaunt.
Maybe it's different with the JP script.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's here.
Fucking knew someone would do it. That’s awesome. If only I wasn’t a FFXIV ps5 player.

Sexual deviants can’t grasp the idea of brotherhood or a man looking up to another man.

Kugane/Doma is a trash-fire of Asian stereotypes too, a strange conglomerate of Korean, Chinese and Japanese aesthetic and cultural traits. What I find so ironic about these racially enlightened troons that infest this fandom is not a single one has any comment on the faux-pas of co-opting certain parts of Korean culture to mash together into the greater "ASHUN" identity that was Kugane. I'm sure if you asked a politically aware Korean how they felt about being used as a nice flavor piece for a Japanese-centric Asian theme park they wouldn't be the happiest to hear it. I know China and affiliate games/media will have strange exaggerated expressions of the Han Dynasty, but Kugane/Doma always stood out as weirder because you could see the dripping contempt for these non-Japanese Asian cultures that are underhandedly baked into Japanese culture which made it feel forced. In fact, the entire Yotsuyu arc made me feel this way. Oh no, the poor Chinese girl Doman girl was sold into sexual slavery because Chinese families Doman families are poor and degenerate, so now she terrorizes the countryside and cannot be redeemed but we do feel sorry for the old whore. All their bitching about Ala Mhigger yt's yet no comment on the domaniggers and how they must bow to their Japanese imperial lords Kugane. This just feels like a gold mine for any hand-wringing virtuefag to wipe their nose all over but i've mostly seen radio silence.

And the most baffling part is that Kugane/Doma had no requirement for story/cultural consultation, for obvious reasons. This same team would not only be unaware, but at this rate, eagerly ecstatic to implement cheap 1940's Disney era depictions of other cultures.
I think having Kugane and Doma being a hodgepodge of different asian cultures is fine, Ishgard and the other Eorzean nations are already equally a mix of different European and near east cultures.

Tural is also a mix, but it's so boring because they're all supposed to live in harmony and there's no edge to it.
The most interesting part was the Mamool Ja who reject living in some globohomo melting pot.

What's the point of making a new world based continent with no human savrifices, no evil high priests, no secret temple treasures, no warring tribes bashing in each others skulls

You're not looking at Graha through the shipping lens that most people are. They are seeing this romantic obsession because they want to peg the uwu taco catboy.

You can compare Doma and Kugane to Tural in this aspect.

In SB alone, you have this immediate tension of Kugane being absolutely xenophobic, the Empire embassy co-existing uneasily with their Eorzean counterpart, and the visible signs of military preparations the Kugane samurais are doing to deter any would-be invaders.

Doma had been absolutely ravaged at this point of the story, and apparently buck-broken enough that survivors fear the Empire. You get to hear all sort of atrocities that Garleans did to pacify the region. Even the steppe niggers hate each other, to the point where they fucking raid each other for slaves, and would probably continue to do so if not for the divine intervention of the WOL.

Tural lacks all that, from my understanding, and even the one conflict they had were solved by tacos so lol.

The closest tural has to any grit is the lizard man eugenics program and the giants are kind of assholes. That’s it. Even the lawless cowboys and robbers are using rubber bullets because god forbid there be any stakes or consequences. The prisoners just go to jail and stay there under the threat of mean looks I guess.

My point ultimately wasn't to prove how Square Enix is actually just ebil colonialist scum, or that any of the fictional story beats are perfect analogies of real-life politics/history but that ultimately they aren't "perfect" in the perceptions of some of these people, long before the trash fire of Tural. Retards/troons either love the place and prove they don't actually give a fuck about race the way they claim to, or they hate it because it's the only meaningless crap they can weaponize in the face of Sena Bryer acting like a retard 24/7. Kugane and associated areas are just as riddled with possible colonial normalization uwu/the greatest depiction of any culture ever interpretations as Tural is. As you pointed out just at differing levels of competency, of which there is barely any because these people write for an MMO at the end of the day and work for Yoshi-p.

Beat me to it. Yeah anyone that sees G'raha demonstrating camaraderie or, at most, hero worship, as anything vaguely romantic is probably jerking off to him too. Annoys the shit out of me when I see it, because they really have no grasp on the concept of a normal male friendship. Even as someone playing a female character, I've never interpreted anything he's said beyond fanboying.

So apparently Pyromancer decided to weigh in on the world first alleged sexism drama and made a tweet calling out Asmongold.
Then Pyromancer claims he has his editor also manage his social media and that he is not responsible for those tweets.

Anyway, they're all retarded and I hope they all die. Anyone claiming women aren't doing world first runs because of sexism need to die twice.

One thing I'm happy for is that all these ecelebs went back to playing and talking about wow, it is so nice not having to be recommended videos about Zepla or Pyromancer sperging about ff14
